how i met my husband:

(for some reason my pic won’t post, oh well!)
sean and i met in october of 1996. i had just moved to orange county and hadn’t made any friends yet. some girls in one of my classes were talking about a college group they went to called xchange. one of them was kind enough to not only invite me, but meet me before hand so i didn’t have to walk in by myself. this college group was led way back then by tim theule. sean was one of the first people i was introduced to and we had an immedieate connection. i told him i was from bass lake and he had grown up vacationing there, along with a bunch of his friends that were at xchange. well, i didn’t see that girl who brought me the rest of the night. sean took me and introduced me to all of his friends, and then invited me to hang out with them afterwards. i had such a great time hanging out with him and his friends, they were all so nice and different from what i was used to. in fact, i not only had an instant crush on sean (c’mon – he had curly white blond hair, was totally tan, and was a surfer – what more could a girl want?), but i also got along great with his best friend. so the next week sean wasn’t at xchange (i later found out he was ending things with a not-so-serious girlfriend that night). then the next week was a halloween party for xchange. so i went, hoping to see sean. no luck, but i did find his best friend, and we went trick-or-treating together. (tip: if you want a lot of candy on halloween, go late and in a nice neighborhood, and they’ll usually just dump whatever is left in their bowl into your bag!) so when we got back to the party i spot sean, and soon remember what instantly caught my attention about him. he was dressed as a waterpolo player. now, you ask, what does a waterpolo player wear? well, a nice warm, long waterpolo jacket of course…..and under that? A SPEEDO!!!! he got out on the dance floor without his jacket! so, after he lost the costume contest (his costume was deemed “inappropriate”), he and i hung out for a bit. he walked me to my car, gave me a hug, and asked for my number. so after a few days of no call, i kind of gave up. but come november 5th, i’m just getting ready to leave my house to vote like any responsible 18 year old would do, and my grandma (who i lived with) told me i had a message from a “sean”. i called him immediately. when he asked if i had any plans right then, i said no. lets talk priorities: boy or vote. hmmmm, now what would you chose? so we hung out that day, and every other day for the next 3 1/2 years until we got married in may of 2000. sean is absolutely my best friend, the one i want to tell everything to, even the totally insignificant things that i’m sure he really doesn’t care to hear, but he listens anyway! i am so blessed to have such a wonderful man to call my husband and father of my kids, and i am so thankful that he works his tail off so i get to stay home with my girls!
thanks babe, i love you!

Thanks for the story! Sometimes it seems like just yesterday that we were silly little girls with crushes on cute guys in college group and sometimes it seems like that was a lifetime away. I love remembering my husband as the “cute base player”. =)

was he seriously wearing a speedo? I had never heard that part of the story… thankfully. For almost 10 years I had gotten by without a mental picture of my brother in a speedo. Now- it’s all ruined. :)
