i hosted a baby shower for a sweet friend at my house last saturday. it was so much fun. another friend did all the food, which was great because it left me to only clean the house and decorate. the theme of cherry blossoms was chosen because that is what the mom-to-be has chosen for her baby girl.
the arrangements were made from sticks (i’m sure there’s a better name for them) that i got at michaels, and tissue paper. i stuck some florists foam inside each urn, covered that with moss, then randomly stuck in the sticks. i made the “blossoms” by folding single sheets of pale pink tissue paper into a square of about 2″x2″. then i cut a circle out of the folded paper and pinched the center of each tissue circle and twisted, making little blossoms. next i hot glued each blossom on to the sticks, making a really inexpensive “arrangement”.
the favors were fun, too. at target i found a template for tiny chinese take out boxes for a few bucks. i also got some brown cardstock there. the boxes weren’t quick, but they were easy. just a lot of tracing, scoring, and cutting – it took a few evenings of movie watching to finish. the strips of cherry blossom paper (which i found at this amazing store downtown, called paper sky) wrapped around the box, and the napkins, and attached with tape. inside the boxes were tiny little pink oval soaps, which smell so strong of raspberry that you almost want to eat them.
the food was amazing! i think janelle said she got all the recipes from the barefoot contessa. the desserts were great, too – lemon bread, thick brownies, cupcakes, and chocolate dipped macaroons – yummy!
