handmade gifts

man, i am having a hard time getting back into this blogging thing after taking so much time off! its funny how quickly you can get out of rhythm with something when you take a short break. i’ve also been busy with some new sewing projects. i’m determined this year, as i was also last year, to try to make all my christmas gifts myself. first reason for this is to save money, second is, ideally, to be less stressful than shopping, and third is to keep the art and appreciation of handmade things alive. i did pretty well with this idea last year, but i didn’t begin soon enough. i also have a number of kids to make gifts for that are between 8 and 16. what do you make for kids that age? i truly welcome any ideas. really. help me out here!

so last week we went to the famous pirate party, and i made the birthday boys some dress up super hero capes. they turned out to be really easy, so they are now on my short list of gifts i can make to give.

i’m also in the process of making gracie, and maybe some other little girls, a ruffly skirt. i’ll post more on that as i finish it up!

Oh my word – those capes are great! I love the ruffle skirt too. You are so amazing! Are you available for hire? :o) (not for the holidays my shopping is done!) I think the idea of homemade gifts is so wonderful. You definitely inspire me!

How cute! Last night I finished Eliannah’s christmas robe. It only took about 3 hours but it’s a great gift!

I don’t have any great ideas for boys, but I made my sister (she’s 17) some bulletin boards to match her room for her birthday. She LOVED them.

Ok, i have zero children and can’t find the time (or the creativity)to come up with these amazing crafts and sewing ideas! You have two young daughters and a newborn??!! If it weren’t for the precious pics of them, i wouldn’t believe you! :)
