pencil rolls

please excuse the mess in place of my header up there! i’m still playing around with picture sizing, and today was definitely not the day that i should have been trying out something new (thanks everyone for your tips!). and lynda (mother-in-law) – i’m working on a late thanksgiving post, but its going to take me a bit of time. after all, how can i compare with shannon, courtney, and david’s posts on thanksgiving? they were great!

so i’m still working on making christmas gifts, trying not to just throw my hands up in the air and quit and join the rest of america in a shopping spree! thanksgiving really slowed down my momentum, then the late nights with newly difficult sleeping children isn’t helping my cause either!

but today i finished 2 gifts! yay for me! these were a new project for me. i found a couple tutorials in blogland that i kind of went off of, and after making these two i’ve learned a couple more things i’d change next time. but, all in all, a satisfying project as it was fairly simple with great results.

i’m quitting for the night since i had a late meeting tonight and i have no motivation. up on the list for tomorrow are headbands…. 13 of them! after a quick trip to the fabric store i should be able to bust them out in a day or so. any handmade ideas yet for big boys or men? i’m still stumped there. i’m losing confidence in my few ideas i’ve had. help!

Oh my goodness – does your flow of creativity ever end? I am so jealous! Seriously, are you taking orders for headbands, pencil rolls? I have been looking online at those crayon rolls – perfect for the diaper bag or car :P I am impressed with your dedication and ability to make all your Christmas gifts. Way to go!

for boys and men–do you knit? you could make them beanies. i know my husband loves to wear them. otherwise, maybe a cape? don’t you think secretly, everyone of them would love a superhero cape? :) seriously though, i can’t even think of things to buy for men and big boys. sigh. i know you’ll think of something fabulous.

I second Joy on the cape for men! :)

Guys are tough to buy for. Andy always wants car parts. Can you weld?

I wonder if you could think of something to make out of leather material? You can sew that right?

How about a manly bookmark? Or manly stationary–maybe an all caps monogram? Then there is always–paperwieghts made from rocks, pencil/pen holders made from coffee cans and construction paper neckties…

you are doing such an awesome job on the gifts! i love your fabric combinations.

note about the photo headline: try moving the “attempting life” etc. down at the bottom on the white part. It’s hard to read because the letters get lost in the background colors.

saw a makeup brush holder made similar to the pencil holder. they actually used a placemat, turned up the lower edge and stitched the slots for the brushes.

Guy ideas -You could make a rollup holder for a wrench set using burlap or canvas. You could also make bucket liners. Buy 5 gallon plastic paint bucket and make liner with exterior pockets for tape measure, t square, pencil, screwdriver, plumb bob, etc. You could also made a carwash accessory bucket, ie, sponge, soap, window cleaner, shammy
or microfiber cloth for drying & cleaning windows, tire black stuff etc. google bucket buddy for other guy ideas.

you make me a proud crafter mom or is it the proud mom of a crafter

Hey Lindsey… a blog stocker here…hope you don’t mind, but I had to tell you how great I think your gifts are! I only have one idea for the male gifts. If they like to cook, you could make them some ‘manly’ aprons by choosing masculine fabrics….tools…cars…sports. I can’t wait to see what you come up with! I know it will be great! Good luck!
