dress update

this is a sweet little dress that now belongs to lily, but has been handed down by gracie. it has seen a lot of love. for a couple months lily would pull it out to wear nearly everyday. i finally had to hide it because it was so stained that it was getting a bit embarrassing. yes, even i can get embarrassed about my kids clothes at some point, but not embarrassed enough that this wrinkly dress would bother me!

it already had some super cute and simple detailing, but it was neighbored by stains, lots of stains. all over. so i got crafty.

i covered many of the larger stains with these little flowers and leaves.

it was a really quick fix. i just took random scraps of fabric and cut different sized circle freehand. then i placed them over the existing flowers and over the major stains, then tucked under little leaves. i layered the circles with 2 or 3 fabrics, then did a bunch of straight stitches over it, inspired by this. really simple. this could even be done without sewing and a little wonder under, an iron-on adhesive.

overall, i’m really happy with this redo, but i still see a lot of stains. i think i’ll go at it again this evening and add more. i think it would be cute to have a few peeking out the back, too. and it’ll look even “fluffier” after i wash it since none of the edges are finished and its sure to fray. i think i’ll like it even better then – more texture = more distraction from stains!

*update* – lily wore this during dinner tonight, and i think i’ll be adding more flowers since she added whats sure to be more stains!

Cute idea. I used to embroider over stains on my kids clothes when they were little. :)

I ABSOLUTELY love this idea. Brilliant. I think the dress is even cuter with the flowers, and no one will have one like it. I love how the randomness of the stains makes the placement of the flowers perfect.
    Great way to recycle, too.
