we did it!

today some friends and i (#146) completed our first half marathon! my goal was to finish, whether i had to walk or not, but i was able to run without stopping (other than to pee!), so i was really stoked on that. katie (#212) was my training partner and was so easy to run with. she and i get together to run 2-3 mornings a week. we all pretty much stuck together and finished within a few minutes of each other. i felt really good the whole time, until about mile 11, then i really just wanted to be done! i definitely want to do another one, but never EVER do i want to do a full marathon! that is just crazy. i ate like a cow immediately after the race – i deserved it right? 3 pancakes, one sweet roll, 3 croissants, eggs, sausage, fruit and oj – that’s not too much! all day today since the race i have been miserable, though! i felt way better running than i have since. i’m super sore and tight, have gone through some boughts of nausea, raging headaches, and chills. i’ve been drinking lots of water, but i’m sure not enough. anyway, off to bed soon. my hour nap today did nothing for the exhaustion i’m feeling…. zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

    YEAH! Good for you Lindsey, I am proud of you. I did a half last weekend and have one more coming up in a few weeks that will be a definite challenge since it is very hilly.

    Be sure to keep moving to help with the soreness. I am sorry you were not feeling well afterwards. I usually need caffeine. It is always my treat when I finish – a big fountain soda.

    A half is a great distance – a challenge, but not impossible and it doesn’t take a huge amount of time away from your family to train. I can’t quite get myself thinking about doing a marathon again.

    I had no idea! Congratulations! I’m missing out on all those great half marathons this fall due to injury. It looks like it was a wonderful day.

    congratulations! i had no idea you were even training for this? how long ago did you decide to do this? what was the longest distance you ran before the actual race? this is probably the most physically active you have been since high school, huh? i am very impressed! – j

    I’m so proud of you Linds! I’ve been doing 5K’s and am still trying to get a good time with that before I attempt a 1/2!! You go girl ;)

    i just had to stop by and comment… i am a friend of jeanette’s and have been reading your blog for a while now :)

    CONGRATS on the half marathon! that is so awesome and sounds like you had a great time! there is a really cool one in santa ynez in may (i think mother’s day weekend) too just incase you are interested :) did you do the city to the sea one? that was on my list this year but didn’t fit in – maybe next year :)

    Hey Lindsey!!! Whooo Hoo Congrats! I am about to do my first 1/2 on Nov 16 and Im so nervous!!! What was the furthest you ran in training?

    the furthest i ran was 7.7 miles. my dad’s theory was if you can run half the distance then you can run the whole thing on race day. it worked! i would’ve liked to train with a bit longer distance, but in this stage of life, i was happy with the training i was able to do! and, yes, it was the city to the sea 1/2 marathon – it was a gorgeous run! that made it even more fun (i can’t believe a run could be fun, but it was!).

    Way to go! Let me know the next one you want to do..would love to join your group! As for a marathon…never say never. I did Rock n Roll SD last year…probably won’t do one again, but it was such a thrill. So proud of you!!! Be sure to stretch before you go to bed at night and take an advil.
