birthday rules: shoes & helmet required. clothing optional.

dear sweet baby boy,
happy birthday!
oh how you melt my heart, and crack me up!
today when i said tomorrow’s your birthday, you said, “no way! mommy’s birthday!”
you are a very silly boy with such a sense of humor.

you’ve got mad skills, boy,
at just about everything your set your mind to.
you can jump higher and farther than boys twice your age,
you’ve got incredible balance, and anything with wheels is game in your eyes.
oh, you are such a boy!

people told me a boy would be different from the girls.
they were right.
you have my heart in a different way than your sisters do.
you melt me.
the way you wrap your arm tight around my neck every morning as we snuggle.
the way you walk up to me throughout the day and kiss my leg, just because.
the way you say no to me. yes, even then.

and you are becoming such a big boy!
you are so good at using your words, and telling us what you want.
i love that you don’t get frustrated very often.
and you are getting very good on the potty – we’ll make potty training official this week, ok?

but you are still my baby.
i love when you say, “rock. couch.” when you want me to hold you like a baby and rock you on the couch. thank you for not growing too big too fast.

and you are a lover!
not only to daddy and i, but to your sisters.
i love that you walk up to them in the morning and give them hugs and kisses.
that you demand hugs and kisses (“huds, tiss”) at every nap and bedtime.
i love that you go to gracie for comfort when you are sad.
i love that you even let lily hold you sometimes, even though you’re nearly the same size!
although it pulls at my heart, i love that you say throughout the day, “miss daddy. daddy work. tiss daddy. hud daddy.”

silas, you are an amazing boy.
i know our great big God put you in our family for a very special reason.
you fit. you changed us. you made us different. you make us better.

thank you, Lord, for entrusting us with this little boy.
train us in the ways we should guide him to be a man after Your own heart.
help us to steer his passion for life into a passion for Your word, for You.
amen.

Happy Birthday Sweet Boy! I hope you have a wonderful birthday.

BTW – when i was pregnant with Landon (we did not know what we were having) but i was so nervous about having a boy. people said the same thing how a boy will change you. they were right. landon is so much like you described silas. he is my snuggler, the boy with the big heart but also so busy, curious, and full of energy.

    loved this post!
