the name game

ok everyone.
you know my best friend nicole?
the one who guest-blogged here for a bit (don’t worry – she’ll be back)?
the one who sold her dream home 700 miles away and moved just 2 miles from ME!?
well, do you also remember that she is very pregnant?
with boy number 3.
her other children’s names are:
tyler (girl)
drew (boy)
hawken (boy)

but the baby remains un-named!
they have gone through every name book out there
and they just can’t seem to settle on anything.
so she’s getting desperate.
we are coming to you, nearly complete strangers (to her),
to help name her baby boy.
she’s due any day now.
c’mon guys – let’s name that baby!

we named our boy august–he is the only one around this small little place with that name!

  2. 2

Hi there! I have never commented on your blog but I LOVE checking in every so often to see what new things you've created. You are SO VERY TALENTED I tell you! Anyhow I had to participate in the baby name game. Our little guy (who's nearly 3) is Fletcher Eli but commonly goes by Fletch. He has gotten so many compliments on his name! We live on the east coast of south Florida and our fav. beach to visit is Fletcher beach. So that's how his name was derived. We are expecting baby number four who turned out to be a girl but if it had been a boy he would have been named Slater. I think it's such a great name and also just happens to be the last name of a very awesome surfer! Just thought I'd share those two ideas with you. Best of luck!!!

  3. 3

I have a Max. Not short for anything and we love that name. He loves that he sees his name everywhere.

    Shelly Primm says:

here are some of my favorite boy names even though i have two girls (emma grace and mary lee)

    – finn
    – jaden
    – sage
    – anderson

i am sure i will think of more names that i like! can't wait to "meet" baby #4. have a great day!

  5. 5

Wow, I just love your blog. Your creativity, your house, your kids – all beautiful!
I wanted to suggest a couple of my favorite boy names that I never got to use – I have two boys and two girls and I am sooo done! I wanted to name our twin boys Tucker and Hudson, but I had to let my husband have a say (!), so we used Simon and Leo (which I love!). Just got the names out of a magazine or somewhere – I love hearing the names of peoples kids. I especially like Hawken – what a great name!

  6. 6

I have 2 boy's and LOVE there name's – Chase is my 6 year old ( he love's that he was named after a bank !!! And Drake is my almost 4 year old !! Name's that you don't hear everyday but not TOO out there either !!! Good luck !!!

    Hannah D. says:

    I vote for Camden!!

  8. 8

Our son's name is Gibson Jude, and I still just love his name! We are adopting a son from Ethiopia right now and we'll be naming him Silas. I have a friend who named her little boy Beckett, very cute.
Hope she can find a name she's in love with!

  9. 9

Out little boy's name is Grayson and I LOVE it! I was a teacher and wanted a name that was a little different without being too different. We call him Gray about half the time, too. :)

    Kristi H. says:

I love your blog! Everything you share here is just so darn inspiring!

We have a Willem Haaken (pronounced just like Hawken, but a Scandinavian spelling), so my suggestion is Willem. We've never encountered another one anywhere and we've been in several states as we're a military family. We like that it's a twist on the traditional "William" and that it's very strong and masculine.

Oh, and I have to add that I hail from Bend, Oregon. I about fell out of my chair when I read that your dear Nicole was living there!

  11. 11

wow – we just came to the other side of this hump (LOL – NO pun intended here!) Our baby boy is carrying a name around with him in my tummy now.

A few we considered and dismissed: Gareth, Philip (nickname "Flip"), Crispin, Noah, Liam.

Other suggestions from the Baby Name Wizard based on the sibling names:

Connor, Angus, Blake, Landen, Knox, Evan, Justin, Clay, Donald, Drake, Grant, Kit, Scott, Trey, Walker (all boy sibling names that go with boy's name Drew)

Adam, Brandan, Cameron, Corey, Deion, Vanhook, Devon, Ethan, Jaxon (all boy sibling names that come up with girl's name Tyler)

"Hawken" didn't show up on the site at all. ;-)

Nicole can plug any possibilities into the site and come up with names along the same lines – it's fantastically freaky!

    Good luck, and congratulations!

I named my son Grayer Thomas. It just fits him. Hope she finds a great name for her new baby boy!

  16. 16

My son is Alexander Harrison (yes, it's a mouthful), but we call him Xander. Harry is a family name that I have always loved; however since our eldest daughter is Mary, my husband refused to have children named Harry and Mary. Thus, the Harrison as a middle name. When we first were expecting, but didn't yet know the sex, we chose Henry as a boys name. After the ultrasound, the doctor and the tech disagreed on whether it was a boy or not (doc thought not), so that weekend, my husbands mom and dad got a new dog and named it Henry, since we didn't need the name. Yep, never quite forgiven them for that!

  17. 17

I love the name game! :) My son's name is Joseph Aaron. The boy names that I have always loved but didn't get to use are Jonah, Ethan, Elijah and Trey. I think those would all go great with the other names. I also like Liam and Eli as well. Can't wait to hear what she names the little guy!

I love Griffin, Dawson, Dalton, Gideon, Leighton, Dayne… those are the first ones that come to mind. I think naming a boy is so much harder than a girl!

How about Miles. i LOVE that name!

  26. 26
    Nathan and Megan says:

Our firstborn son's name is: Reddington Forrest. WE LOVE IT to say the least. He goes by "Redd" sometimes. We have gotten nothing but compliments on this name. No one has ever heard of it or knows anyone but our little guy with this names. Another one we liked was Tobius & maybe call him "Toby" Happy Naming! Megan from IL

  27. 27

    Roger, Jack, Brendan…

  38. 38

First of all, love the blog and all the artwork (yes, artwork!).

I have been a "fan" of names since I was little – always making name lists & just generally interested in names. So all the comments and the names have made me a happy camper! LOVE the name Hawken. Perfect romanctic hero name. heh.

My votes from names mentioned in the comments are Soren & Griffin. They sound like they'd go w/ her other children's names, plus Soren is one of my favorite names ever. : )

    Good luck to Nicole!

  39. 39

Ahhhh we were in this boat with BOTH of our boys' names!

Our first is Finn Christian (Finn wasn't so popular when we named him!) and our newest is Deacon Eli. Both get compliments and smiles!

Both of us really wanted to name him Captain, but we didn't have the guts (actually our mothers nearly died when we suggested it… peer pressure I guess).

    Some others we liked:

Good luck :) How close is she?

  40. 40

I love your blog! I love to see the wonderful things you create.. it makes me wish I could sew!
I have 2 boys, Jackson and Brady. They are great names and I love that they will carry through when they are grown. We call Jackson "Jack" – as great as these names are they have grown in popularity. We loved the name Luke but could not use it because of our last name.. it just doesn't work! Good Luck!

    Mama Mote says:

Our first baby was going to be named (my husband whispered in my ear as the head popped out) – Samuel David. Then the rest of HER popped out. I like Samantha, but she didn't look like a Samantha. Dan realized a day or two before the birth that we could be having a girl, so he searched the Bible and prayed and came up with Elizabeth, so that's what we had…Elizabeth Rachal (who is now 26 and married). So you can use those names…no more babies for us. We are going to be into the next stage in a couple of years.

  42. 42

I love baby names – how fun! Our son is named Braden and at the time I had not heard of it, but now there are tons of Bradens around. I now love the name Braxton (Brax for short) and that would have been my daughter's name if she had been a boy. Instead she is a wonderful Brinley Teagan.

  43. 43

    Here are my suggestion:
    Rixon (rickson)

  44. 44

    I like the name Brody.

I also like the name Zane.

I have a friend who's son is named Grey.

  45. 45

i LOVE your blog and i LOVE when Nicole guest posts. and every time i wear my posy pins i get so many compliments! there are some great name suggestions on here, but i'll throw mine out there anyway. we have 4 boys and i love each of their names (tyler, jackson and carson) but there is something special about duncan. it's a family name and just suits him. he gets called dunc a lot which i also love. good luck. can't wait to 'meet' your new little one!
