ok, i need to make a decision!

option b

so what do i do?
i ask the opinion of my closest peeps: mom, joy, and nicole.
they know me the best – my tendencies, my design history, my general likes and dislikes.

so you know, the goldish one is stepping waaaay out of my comfort zone.
i like simple, clean in general.
i like white.

so what did they all say about the 2 beddings?
choose the gold one!
so i go for it!

i take it on and off my bed for a week, just living with it.
i can’t decide!
i know it’s stepping out of my comfort zone, which can be a really good thing.
and it’s pretty.

i added this pillow, just wrapped it in fabric to get some ideas.

after a week or so, i just…
i just didn’t love it.
and the whole reason i’m doing this is to find something i love.
now, i know i could just walk into anthro and find something that fits that requirement,
but that’s not my reality.
i live in the real world.
not in the i-can-walk-into-anthro-and-buy-anything-i-want world.
i’d like to live there, but i don’t.

one of the things i like the least about it is the pillow shams with the comforter.
it’s too much.

so i figured i could just use white cases and remake the shams into euro shams.
that was better, but i still wasn’t crazy about it.

my biggest problem with it is not so much the comforter itself, but everything else in the room that has to go with it.
and by “go with it” i don’t mean match, but just look good in the same room.
with such a bold print i couldn’t figure out what i’d do for the lampshades.
and i wanted to add a little something to the drapes, but it was starting to look too matchy matchy.
and the chair i bought needs to be recovered, but in what?
what print goes with that bedding without competing with it?

so i get out the white comforter.

and it’s pretty.
the “kissing” pleats are just the right amount of texture, with the cute little buttons.

but it’s white.
and really safe.
and not stepping out of my comfort zone at all.

and i cannot get the size right!
sounds silly, but i have a queen size bed, and this pic is with a queen size comforter.
look on the side – its too short.
as soon as you stick 2 (or 5) people in there, there would be no coverage on the edge.
i guess i’m picky about that stuff.

and here’s the king size one i had to order online (free shipping).
it seems too long, but would be great to actually sleep with, i think.

i’m still unsettled.
if i were to do this one:

i could do some funky throw on the end, or even a quilt.
i’d funk up the curtains a bunch since the bedding is so safe.
and i’d also do some funky lampshades.
and on the chair i could choose any print i want since it wouldn’t be competing with anything else.
i’d definitely do something better to the euro shams.
nicole wants me to replace some of the pics in the window above my bed with fabric, so that’s a maybe.

but then again…

this one is pretty, too!
darn decision making.

  1. 1

i vote white… then you can change the throw pillows as your mood changes.

    Nathan and Megan says:

I vote the "funky" out of your comfort zone. It makes a statement! I had white comforter = disaster. Needed to replace it within 6-9 mos. Just got "yuck" The white also takes too much work to "dress up" I found I only loved it when I had TONS of colorful pillows on it. Just a lot of work. Let us know what you decide- either way!

  3. 3

I have all white bedding on our bed, and while it took me years to be brave and put it on, I am sooo glad I did, it always looks clean and simple.

  4. 4

go with the white. i think it's what your soul wants. be funky with the other stuff, like you said.

  5. 5

Sister! It's your BEDROOM. You should stay in your comfort zone here. ;) And I love the kissing pleats! Appropriate for the master bedroom. Love, love your blog. – Denise

    Just Beachy says:

I love the white one with the pleating , it is so perfectly inperfect…I love to layers loads of sleeping pillows and throw pillows , I have 10 pillows on my bed it doesn't seem like too much at all , the nice thing about the white is that your combo's are limitless , you can change things up over and over , my 2 cents.
    Good luck with your decision.

    Cute Beams says:

OUT of the comfort zone… but keep the sheets and shams safe and white. Nothing like crisp white sheets! Adding pillows to with season changes will feel fresh, darks in the fall and winter, sunny brights spring and summer. White drapes? IDK… I think break out of the box! Whatever you do it will be lovely and you!

  8. 8

I am new to your blog, but I LOVE it!! I have gotten a lot of inspiration from your decorating style. We just recently bought a new bedding set from Target and I love it!! I love shabby chic, and this is part of their shabby chic line, but not too "girly". I just thought you might want to check it out!

But between the 2 you have posted…I would go with the white, it's nice and simple =)

  9. 9

STICK with the WHITE! I have white and I buy duvet sets at IKEA when I want to change things up, but with having kids climb into bed with us and eating popcorn in bed etc…white is always best. We stick with white sheets, too. Right now for the holidays we have red and white ticking and it is fun! I think stick with classic white than can be bleached and accent with color!

    Jeannett Gibson says:

what about if you dyed the white comforter? maybe a teal-ish? then you don't have the crazy print but it's not quite as safe as plain white????

  11. 11

Use both. Try the white comforter spread out over your bed with green patterned comforter folded across the foot of the bed (kind of like a hotel look). Or use the green one spread out over the bed and then fold the white one across the foot of bed. It will help break up the color and give you that little extra something but not totally take you out of your comfort zone. Oooh, almost forgot – also you can mix up the shams or use the ones to match whichever comforter you decided to fold across the foot of the bed. You should try it and take pictures to post with the others and then ask everyone's opinions again. Have fun!

    Mom's Place says:

I'm LOVING the texture of the white one! I would be too nervous to use it myself…but I also have a 4 month old with one of his sidekicks being a constantly sticky 3 1/2 year old sister!

  13. 13

    Definitely the white.

  14. 14
    Cindy Broaddus says:

I vote for the white one. I saw it somewhere just recently and thought it was such a pretty set – love the pinch pleats. The white makes for a great "blank canvas" to add great patterns and color with accessories like you were saying in your post.

    Good luck!

  15. 15
    Momofgirls says:

My vote is can change it up with each season with the throw pillows and make a funky quilt to lay across the bottom!

  16. 16

i loved seeing all your fab things last night! just came on to look at your store and read your post for today :)
i have the MOST plain color palate in my WHOLE house however, I LOVE IT! I change pillows and other items all the time with the seasons to change the look of a room. Our bedroom neutral (ie:white, tan, cream, beige…)with some dark wood furniture and upholstered chair and ottoman. I add a thin colored bedspread folded on the bottom third of the bed and printed/textured pillows to the bed with its white sheets, white bedspread, dust ruffle and pillows and it looks classic all the time. It is peaceful AND it is always clean cause you can wash it!! good luck!

  17. 17
    Phil and Bri says:

WHITE WHITE WHITE!!!! Where did you get it? If you don't want it I DO! ;)hehe

  18. 18

I like the white one. I like the gold funky one too- but my experience is that the funky one will get old fast and outta style.

I have a funky red cover on my bed right now, and after 2 months my husband decided he hates it ( after initially loving it!) so now I am going to go look for a plain white or cream one. Then when i get bored with it I can change it up with pillows, throws etc.

I love your blog. I am not sure how i ran across it. But it is simply refreshing.

    God Bless

  19. 19

I say fold down the white one so it only covers half the bed, get colored sheets for a pop of color and then a throw at the foot of the bed. Then you can make pillows that coordinate and add more interest!

  20. 20

My vote would be white but needs lots of color added to it. I also like the green but think it would look better if it was folded down, exposing a solid color sheet. That would break up the busy comforter from the busy shams. Good luck! Your decision will be the right one as you are an awesome decorator!

  21. 21

Go with the white!! You will probably be happier with it for longer. :)

  22. 22

go with the white and go out of your comfort zone with the pillows, curtains, and chair. if you are not FEELING the gold, don't force it. you have to sleep and live with this thing! you SHOULD love it and that's ok if its not out of your comfort zone! i say go with the white. it is timeless!!

  23. 23

I don't love white as a comforter, and I do like the green one, but it is WAY overwhelming. So I would use the green pillow shams with the white comforter. A little of the clean with a little of the WOW!

  24. 24

I LOVE the white! For me, white would be out of the comfort zone, only because my three kiddos love to be in my bed, and I can't always trust that their little hands and faces are clean. White allows you to change the look completely! It can be so versitile. Add red throw and pillows aroundthe holidays, each season could be changed by switching out shams, pillows, and throws. I would go with white. It also looks like the rest of your house, and in my home I like the rooms to kinda flow together.

  25. 25
Darlene - Our Creative Life says:

The white is more versatile. You can jazz it up with patterned shams, throws, throw pillows. I think you will get so much more use of the white one and it's more calming for the bedroom.

  26. 26

What about brown instead of white? I love the look of that comforter and saw it in all different colors online at target. I love target! And did you know the same look is at Anthropologie for $250!! And that's just for the duvet cover! Yikes! Just another reason why I love Target so much!!

  27. 27

i love your blog- you're so funny! i went out of my comfort zone with a comforter and i kinda regret it. just as in your dilemma, i feel i cant do anything fun with the rest of our room. it sucks. be safe and go crazy with curtains and chairs etc

  28. 28
    bluecorduroy says:

go for the white!! i love the clean look of it. your bedroom looks bigger with it, and you'll end up having it longer (due to all your funkifying changing it up every season or so)

the gold one is beautiful, but i think it limits you too much, and you'll get sick of it sooner.

  29. 29

i vote white! you'll always be happy with it, and can add funky touches. it's your bedroom- you want it to be a place where you and your hubby can retreat – not be uncomfortable! thus – go with comfort, go with what you like!

  30. 30

    i have white too.
    clean and classic

  31. 31
    Amanda@Imperfectly Beautiful says:

LOVE the kissing pleats! do you know how many times I have stopped myself from buying that comforter? About 867 times. I love it! but I can just picture my two youngest picking all those buttons off and ruining the whole beautiful thing!

Good luck. I am no help…sorry.

    Kelsey McQuiston says:

lol…glad to know i'm not the only one who deals with these battles! i can't help with the decision making..because i agree!i love white SO much…it just hasn't been practical for me with kiddos. so i ended up with chocolate instead (way outta my zone, but i love it!) good luck…it will look great either way!

  33. 33

i vot white…. it looks like a better match for your room:)

  34. 34

You didn't ask, but I vote gold!!! Its still somewhat neutral and might (?) hide the yuck a little better than white. Good luck!!!!

  35. 35

You didn't ask, but I vote gold!!! Its still somewhat neutral and might (?) hide the yuck a little better than white. Good luck!!!!

  36. 36

i vote the white and you can do anything and everything with the accessories in the room and change them as time goes on for MUCH cheaper than the bedding! but the other is lovely and fun and if you could figure out the other stuff and love it, then i say go for it!

  37. 37

i DO NOT like the gold one at all!

my vote is with the white. it's cute. but don't EVER let your kids go in there.

btw- whose "anonymous Denise?" she is NOT your sister. Denise you are not lindsey's sister. I am. your luck you your anonymous or i'd come after you with that ugly gold bedspread.

  38. 38

I have no idea why I am compelled to write. I usually go to your blog to get ideas. However, we just finished a remodeling project, new master bedroom. I went with white bedding a colored throw pillows. I just put it on yesterday and love the look. We too have a queen bed and I bought a king comforter and put it on the "wrong" way. Then I was able to have it long enough on the sides, but it was plenty long enough to tuck the bottom in so that it wouldn't ride up and our toesies end up stickin' out during our Minnisota winters;)I am looking forward to having the freedom to change up colors, pillows, sheets for different seasons and still keep the simple look of white on top. Yes, I have three kids and I made sure my white comforter was machine washable! For what that was all worth!

You know what would look great. The floral print comforter with the white pinched shams. I like when different textures and material aren't so matchy matchy.
