birthday party flashback

i was digging through my archive and came across some birthday parties we had before my blogging days. i thought it might be fun to share!

this was gracie’s 3rd birthday party when we lived at “the little house”, the 700 sq. ft. house we rented while our house was being built up the street. thankfully gracie’s birthday is in may and the weather was beautiful – actually, really hot if i remember correctly.

we borrowed the great spring horses from friends and church and got hay bales from our local farm supply store. get this: they let us buy the hay bales and then suggested returning them if we didn’t want to keep them! so we used them for free!

i got hats for each of the little buckaroos from oriental trading company, and used bandanas to tie up their party favors (including some tiny plastic farm animals). my sister decorated the balloons like farm animals. shortly after martha started selling her own.

we had pigs in a blanket and chicken wings for lunch, and a fabulous barn cake my mom made for dessert.

we played some really fun farm games: pin the tail on the donkey and pig corralling!

at the end of the party we drove up the street to cal poly’s equine unit and fed the horses.

these are the invites we sent out, meant to look like a little jeans pocket, with a “g” stitched on it.

when you pulled out the bandana you found the party details. so fun!
