family olympics ’09 (again)

because i was a participant in the olympics, i couldn’t capture all the fun, but i tried…
we started off the family olympics with our opening ceremonies – family prayer and courtney leading us in singing the national anthem.
we definitely made the neighbor’s curious!

next vito led us in our warm ups.
think leg and arm circles… simultaneously!
cross-your-legs funny.

the first event was free throws.

we also had swing long jumps again.

court and i battled it out on the teeter totter log roll.
i reign victorious!

we also had footballs through the hoola hoop, musical chairs (i was so close! and i did not cheat!), bowling, bucket brigade, chocolate cream pie eating contest, nerf gun shooting, name that tune, and a group song/dance presentation.

now, if you’re jealous because all you did was sit around all day watching tv, you should be.
and if you regret spending all your time and money doing your christmas shopping, you should!
because what we did that day was more valuable than any gift that could have been given.
we gave each other the gift of our time, which really is what will be remembered far longer than any gift we receive.

i am far beyond blessed to be a part of a family that places family and fun far above most other things.
thank you cheney family!
thank you for creating memories and enriching my life and the lives of my children!

What a neat thing to do!!! We went out and spent time with my hubby who was working, and several single soldiers who could not go home! It was such a great day!! I think that we have spent 5 Thanksgivings out of 12, where my hubby did not have to work!

It looks like you guys really had such a blast! And, I agree – one of the best gifts you can give is simply your time….so, so true! :)

Lovely! It looks like so, so much fun!

  4. 4

first of all- you were cheating in musical chairs, missy. I believe that stopping in front of each chair does not exactly follow the rules :)

secondly- I demand a log roll rematch next time you are down.

thirdly- it was SO fun and I love this new tradition we have started. It is going to be so special for our kids as they grow up. I love our big, crazy family :)

I am so stealing this idea. Once my son is bigger and the weather is warm…we are SO doing this!!!

What a blessing our family is! My kids are still talking about it and looking at the pictures! Which I need to post! I'm already thinking of what kind of games we need to do next year! And you forgot to mention the fun white elephant gift exchange that ended the night – did I make out or what?? But really who wouldn't want "Buns of Steel" videos?? Love you guys xoxo

I'm here at your blog to see for the 100th time your tutorial on making capes. I'm planning to do 5 of them for my two children, two nephews and a cousin for Christmas. Tonight's the kickoff!

But after reading this post, I wanted to take a few minutes to send a comment to let you know how much FUN I think you are. Even though I realized that already from your ideas and posts and fun, family-friendly home, this one just made me want to comment.

Just so you know, I wish you were my friend in real life. I'd love to sit and sew with you. Our kids could play, play, play.

    Enjoy your weekend!
