mediterranean cruise – part 1

***sean and i kept a journal each day of our adventures from our vacation, and i’m recording it here just for fun.
feel free to skip on by if you find pictures of ancient ruins and a couple madly in love annoying ;)***
so.
sean and i went on a cruise together to the mediterranean last week.
just the two of us.
!!!!!
as you might remember, a few months back we snuck off to santa barbara for a night.
we did a kid swap with friends, and it was our first time leaving the kids for a night.
but a week together?
um, yes please!
but wait, it gets better.
the trip?
we really couldn’t afford a trip like this.
get this:  it was FREE!
one of sean’s manufacturers offers an incentive program to its dealers.
if you sell enough of their products, you earn trips!
airfare, cruise, food – pretty much everything was covered!
we left the kids on saturday with my parents, who later passed them off to family and friends.
i was just giddy to be in the airport with sean, let alone have a week with just him.
it truly felt like we were on our honeymoon, only better because we now have 10 years under our belt and are so much more comfortable with each other.
the flights were long.
we left from home on a hopper plane to l.a., then to paris (11 hours), then finally to barcelona.
i made the mistake of not buying tylenol pm and hardly slept on our flights at all.
but i did see a lot of movies i hadn’t seen before!
unfortunately, we had no time to explore barcelona, but had to head directly to our ship.
we were on royal carribean’s 2nd largest ship, called the voyager of the seas.
we had never been on a cruise before so we have nothing to compare to,
but this ship was amazing!
and huge – it held over 3000 people!
our first night we spent exploring the ship – casino, pools, gym, day spa, sports court, mini golf course, rock climbing wall – so much stuff!
then we went to a cocktail party and dinner.
the next day was our only day at sea, which i wish we had a couple more of.
i really loved exploring our port towns, but 5 days of a ton of walking would’ve been nicely broken up with a day of rest.
we started our day working out.
yeah, haven’t done that in a while and i felt that mistake the entire trip.

read this book, and enjoyed my “cruise toes” thanks to joy!
we spent most of the day lounging by the pool, reading and watching all the entertainment the crew was providing:
belly flop contest, ice carving… but the people watching was the best!
apparently, ANYONE can wear a bikini.
i saw only a very few one piece suits.
something about that was very liberating, that these women were not living by american standards, but sometimes a one piece would’ve have been nice.

we decided to splurge and get a couples massage since we just had our 10th anniversary and it was a couple days from sean’s birthday.
dinner that night was our first formal night.
it was really fun dressing up with sean since we never have an excuse to dress up anymore.
after dinner we went to the theater for a few minutes (bad), then the casino, then miniature golf (in heels!), and we finished our night in the spa.

next stop:  rome!

Smiling b/c my hubby's work sent us on two similar vacations (one was a RC cruise!). I came home pregnant both times. :s ;) ;) ;)

Looks like you had a blast though. I actually enjoyed the musical on board the Freedom of the Seas, and the ice show was good too!

Yeah for you! My hubby and I went on a 10 yr cruise on that very same ship in February! We of course did not go to Spain…how fun! Was the cruise director the crazy guy Mike? Did you catch the Adult Daycare @ Night comedian/musician? Did you attend the HILARIOUS Dating Game? That ship was a BLAST!!!
