spontaneous camping

my husband’s business partner (and good friend) celebrated his birthday this weekend
camping with his family.
since they were camping locally – about 30 minutes away – they invited us to join them for dinner.
we decided to interpret that as “come join us for the whole weekend and camp with us”.
can you see how much they sound the same?
dinner… whole weekend… it could confuse anyone, really.

our friends were so kind to let us jump in on their weekend with them, especially so last minute.
we had such a great time.

all the kids played so well together (other than silas assuming he was master of all toys), and we adults actually had a decent amount of down time.

we went on a great hike saturday morning (with daddy-lead stretching),
which silas capped off with a nice long nap (that i just had to join him for).

after nap we went to the beach for a bit,
where the kids promptly corn-dogged themselves (wet body, dry sand).

silas was crazy about his freedom in the water where he kept going up to his shoulders
and was singing loudly some sort of theme song – it was hilarious!

good thing swim lessons started today!

and to finish off the weekend, my baby learned to ride his bike without training wheels!
who knew that would be a tear-jerking moment?!

don’t worry – i drowned my mommy sorrows in peanut butter cup s’mores.
aaaand i may have had another one since we’ve been home
(psssst!  the stove flame works just as well as a campfire in a pinch!).

today i am also guest blogging over at mique’s 30days for her “funner in the summer” series.

*****
i’m also a guest judge at the csi project this week!
and there might just be a giveaway for the winner…
the theme is “red, white, and blue” – so appropriate!
*****

and last but not least…

I just blogged about my kiddos doing some impromptu camping last week…in our backyard. They loved it!
Checked out you store…love everything. I loved the way you displayed the headbands on the ball jars…I think this would look great in the kitchen or bath with stuff inside the jars…qtips, cotton balls, sugar, etc. So great.
The necklaces…amazing! Note to self (and Grandma!)

What a great surprise vacay! I can't blame you for tearing up about Silas' big boy riding skills. I cried as well when my oldest took off on his own. Sometimes those moments just get ya!
