silas’ party was so. much. fun!
every once in awhile we throw what i call a “family party”.
by that i mean we invite not only the birthday kid’s friends, but their whole families as well.
since it’s nearly the end of the summer and we haven’t seen so many of our friends for awhile,
i thought this would be the perfect time!
since silas is deemed our monkey (the kid is agile!), we thought a monkey party would be fitting.
i went back and forth on how to incorporate it into a theme.
do i go with monkey/jungle theme?
i thought going a bit more clean/modern would be a fun change.
and since we love paul frank and his monkey julius, it was an easy decision.
plus 1/2 of silas’ wardrobe consists of small paul gear from target – so cute and so cheap!
target had a small collection of julius birthday decor – wrapping paper, invites, plates, cups and favor bags.
i just got the wrapping paper and some plates.
nicole was a huge help with the invites.
they were made with 4 layers: red cardstock, b&w check, yellow cardstock, and a scrap of wrapping paper.
after it was all assembled i made color copies of the invite, stuffed them in red envelopes, and off they went!
that way i didn’t have to hand make a bunch of invites – just one to copy – easy peasy.
try it, you’ll like it (any yo gabba gabba fans out there?)
a roll of wrapping paper down the center of the table, held down by double stick tape.
all the serving dishes i could find in the color palette (red, yellow, black & white, and sky blue).
garland of paper circles, sewn together.
ridiculously easy – 30 minutes of cutting, 15-30 minutes of sewing = miles of garland.
cupcake picks (cardstick, wrapping paper, skewers, & hot glue).
red and yellow straws for a buck from michael’s.
a fabulous banner made by joyful joyful.
i was also going to do red, yellow and blue balloons, but ran out of time.
so i saved $ there!
i actually planned to do “pin the banana on the monkey” with a huge pic
of si with monkey ears (~$6 – costco.com),
but i totally forgot.
jeannett reminded me that’s not the first time that’s happened.
but with a crowd like that (~50 people) its so fun to just hang out.
the kids all entertained themselves on the tramp(oline), the grass, or in the playroom.
to me, it was really relaxed.
i opted to go super easy – pizza and fruit salad (yummy yummy).
i had pretzels and goldfish set out before the pizza arrived… late (ahem).
drinks were water, pink lemonade, and beer (for the grownups, of course).
dessert was chocolate cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and yellow jimmies,
and/or banana splits.
the jimmies and b&w check cupcake liners are from sweet baking supply – super happy with them!
a very sweet friend called me up the day before the party and offered to make the cupcakes and frosting for me – i gladly accepted her offer!
the cupcakes partially rolled in jimmies were inspired by the latest edition of donna hay kids (the australian martha) that an aussie reader so sweetly sent to me – thank you so much, jessica!!!
overall, it was a great party.
not too difficult to throw, not terribly expensive.
and the boy was happy.
and that’s all that matters.
