yep, lily turned 5.
wow. FIVE. that’s big, like really big.
but… she still seems so little to me! maybe its because i have gracie to compare her to size-wise (not that gracie is so big, at just barely over 40 lbs!), but lily just still seems like a little one to me. maybe it helps that she has still been napping until very recently (darn, i was hoping that’d last forever!).
last weekend we were visiting for my grandma’s 90th birthday and we decided to throw lily a little family party for lily while we were down there. sean’s family doesn’t get to celebrate birthdays with us that often since we’re 4 hours apart, so we invited everyone over to my mother-in-law’s house for a casual party. a very casual party. if you know me or have read my blog much, i *love* to throw a party! but this is a really hectic season for us, with sean’s travel schedule full and soccer season, too. so lily agreed to have a party at grandma’s! (thanks so much for going along with this, lynda!)
i went really light on the decorations. lily requested a mermaid party. i knew i didn’t have a party like this in me again, so i went much more subtle.
i got these adorable cupcake pics and paper cups online, and used blue coarse sanding sugar from my new favorite, sweet baking supply. i was attempting to make the mermaids look like they were in water with the sand (crushed graham crackers) around them.
i couldn’t pass up the $13 mermaid pinata, although i never did quite understand pinatas. i get the candy part, but hitting something that looks like something you love just seems weird, no?
and other than swimming and eating, putting on mermaid tattoos was about all i planned. i love having parties where the guests can just hang out and enjoy each other!
for lily’s actual birthday, we just hung out as a family and celebrated with our favorite friends.
we love you, lu!
and thank you for giving our family a very random yet hilarious saying: “89 hundred… READY SET GO!”
we have no idea what made you think to say that, or how shy little you came running into the room shouting it like a rock star, but it will stick with us forever!
a little side note:
i’m going to be a part of the queen bee market in the san diego area again this year!
the date is set for 1 month from today!
i’ll have a bigger booth, so more products, and i’ll be hanging out there most of the day this time.
if you are in the area or want to set up a road trip, i’d love to meet you!
if you went last spring, you know you won’t want to miss out.
it was by far the best show i’ve done as far as the caliber of crafters and artists selling – i wanted something from each vendor!
so mark your calendars for november 12th and 13th!
hope to see you there!
