celebrating 90 years

i am so blessed to have both of my grandmothers still alive and kickin’.

this past weekend we surprised my maternal grandma for her 90th birthday!

yep, NINETY!

she hasn’t been feeling well and is at a care facility right now, but was allowed to fly the coop for a bit of a break for her party.

her whole family was there, minus 2 of my siblings (and their families) who are too cool to live in the contiguous u.s. ;)

we spent the day eating yummy take out, consuming mass amounts of cake and ice cream (with 10+ lbs of lardy frosting – blech), swimming with the kiddos, and playing speed scrabble – yes, jeannett, i am a game player.

we all contributed to “90 things we love…” for grandma, a growing tradition for our family.

i am so thankful for the year i got to live with grandma when i first moved away for college.

and i’m even more thankful that she didn’t kick me out (i started dating sean when i lived with her and tended to stay out ’til the wee hours of the night!).

i know i promised some of you that i’d list new products on monday morning, but with being out of town, having an apparent tornado hit my living room, and having ants crawling across my kitchen, dining room, bedroom and bathroom, i decided cleaning up was a better choice.

i listed more petal drop necklaces again, but this time i added something new: the french cut petal drop!

when nicole and i came across these beauties we knew we had to figure out a way to make them work because they are bee. you. tee. ful!

i received many emails this week requesting specific petal drops.  each necklace is one of a kind and cannot be reproduced, so when its gone, its gone!  but i do use the same fabric occasionally with different placement, so keep your eye out for your favorite and snag it when you get a chance!  also, i can’t take on custom orders, unless you happen to find some extra time lying around for me, then i’ll be all over them!

i will also be adding my adorable new coin purses to my shop as soon as the sun comes up and i can photograph them – for now this iphone pic will have to do.

i got my shipment of snaps in and they are the perfect finishing touch on those teensy purses with the cutest ruffle ever!

*EDITED TO ADD: i just loaded the tiny pouches in to my shop!*

also coming this week: wristlet clutches!

and come check me out over at blessed little nest’s handmade & vintage market.

so much fun stuff!

what a special birthday. you’re so fortunate to still have your grandmother and she looks great!! I just adore the beautiful frame.

  2. 2

OK…those drop necklaces are TO DIE FOR!! I might just have to snag one for my sisters bday. (which would be a belated gift, but I haven’t found just the right thing yet :))

Also…the ants in the kitchen…I am so sorry!! Stuff like that totally stresses me out!! I’ll be praying for you :) eek!!

    Have a great day!

  3. 3

Ugh! I hate the ants! Lucky we didn’t get them too bad this year.
    Love the little coin purses.

  4. 4

What a special day to spend together! You are very lucky to have your grandmother around! Glad you had such a wonderful day minus the ants!

  5. 5

What a great idea for the “90 things…”, so very meaningful…

Such a blessing that your grandparents are here with you and also that your children have the opportunity to know them.

And I feel for you with the ants – hope that gets cleared up soon…

  6. 6

ooh we had a problem with ants recently. We got these heavy duty bait traps that were for protein and sugar ants and put them everywhere. We also got this gel stuff that you inject into cracks they are crawling through. We also treated the outside of our house and the kitchen. That seemed to do the trick. We didn’t have so much luck with borax but I have heard that has worked well for other people.

I am SO happy that you still have your grandmothers with you. Your children are so, so lucky too! They are honestly the best ever! Hello, Great Grandmama!

And those pouches are SUPER DUPER CUTE!

I sent my mom the link and she was wondering if you make any with zippers. One for the outside (for coins), and another zipper on the inside as well as still having a coin slot. She likes to use these little coin size wallets when she goes to work.

    Just Better Together

      hi justine!

i won’t be adding a zipper, but the fold over flap actually covers the larger of the 2 pockets to hold in the coins. then there is another smaller pocket left to hold credit cards, i.d., or anything else you need!

First visit to you site – it’s great! Beautiful stuff. Love the necklace and yellow change purse. Can’t wait to look around a bit more and visit often!

My husband & I both have both of our grandmother’s living so our boys are blessed to know 4 great-grandma’s. I am very, very close to my dad’s mom, my Gram. In fact I named my youngest son Graham after her. Last week I was lucky enough to be with her (we live on opposite sides of the country) when she celebrated her 86th birthday. Ninety is going to be a FUN celebration! I’m so glad you got to be there to celebrate with your family!

You are so fortunate to have your grandmothers with you. I wish I had mine. I miss them so much. There’s just something special about a Grandmother, they are such wonderful and sweet women.

Love the pearl drop necklace, pretty!

Couldn’t resist commenting…LOVE the family picture and your 90-yr.-old Grandma. I’m lucky enough, too, to have a set of grandparents in their late 80’s and I tell my 12-yr.-old how lucky he is to have GREAT-grandparents. Thoroughly enjoyed this post and Happy Birthday to your grandma…how cool!

  12. 13

Your grandma looks good for being 90. My grandma is 85 and is my last living grandparent and she is doing great! I am lucky too!

I love the new products you added as well as the pillows that you made for the playroom!

  13. 14

How nice to be able to spend some time with your Grandma. Both of my grandpas are in their 90s and I hate feeling like there’s not much time left with them.

By the way… I love your necklaces. Best wishes for a wonderful week :)

  14. 15

Such a great photo of the family!!

  15. 16

    90?! that is awesome!

ps. I just wanted to say thanks again fo inviting me to play WIWW last week. What a treat! You are the sweetest!

  16. 18

    You ARE so blessed.
Both of my grandmothers have passed away and I think about them all the time.
What a wonderful gift you were able to give her.

  17. 19

Wow, your grandma sure looks good for being 90! What a blessing it must have been to celebrate her life together as a family.

I love love love those little wallets (WITH the cutest ruffle ever) and just can’t wait to see those wristlet clutches. Those kind are my favorite for places like Disneyland, where you don’t want to lug around a giant purse, but you want to keep that Disney Visa Card handy. ;)

I can’t wait until I have some money and can treat myself to some of your stuff! The things you make cause my heart to skip a beat. They are just simply lovely.
