yarn ball wreath and what i wore wednesday

i have been planning to make this wreath since last christmas when starbucks had the most amazing wreaths in the whole entire world – covered in yarn balls!

but since i have crossed over into the realm of crazy colors for christmas, i needed to make my version a bit funkier than the sbucks style.  i bought this yarn after christmas last year in hopes to do this wreath, and seeing a boutique downtown this weekend that was covered in yarn balls hanging from the rafters was just enough inspiration to get out my glue gun and do this!

i spotted these awesome non-breakable ornaments in the $ section in target.

yarn from michael’s

my trusty glue gun from walmart – best $3 i ever spent.  this baby gets used nearly every day!

and a funky/obnoxious wreath form target for $2.50.

i used all different sizes of ornaments, and just started with a tiny dab of glue by the top.

that’s where i started my yarn for wrapping.

then i squirted a little glue all over

and started wrapping

and wrapping

and wrapping until at last the shiny ball underneath was no longer visible.  then i glued the end down near the top.

then i just took the wire branches from the wreath and slipped the ornament hook top thing right over it.  that’s it.  no glue or extra wire, just the wreath itself held everything on.

there wasn’t a whole lot of rhyme or reason to where i placed the ornaments.  i just kept filling it until i liked how it looked.   it would’ve been cute to have it really asymmetrical, too.

and there she hangs.  but… i love it so much i may just bring it inside so i can see it more.

*****

and now for wiww!

i have a confession: i wore mostly jammies and sweats all last week and weekend!  when i’m on vacation i rarely get dressed, so i was in full relax mode.

but for thanksgiving, my s.i.l. and i decided to make some effort (ok, she made a lot more effort than me).

top – target

jeans – forever 21

slippers – walmart (i just got these and LIVE in them.  i know – suuuper attractive!)

my brother did a photoshoot with our family one day, so i had to get dressed for that!

cardi – target

shirt dress – forever 21

jeans – forever 21

flats – target

necklace – allora handmade

lunch with friends on sunday

top – gift (from marshall’s)

cardi – target

jeans (that are supposed to be skinny but are looking quite baggy) – gap

flats – target

don’t forget if you’re local to come to the stitch market boutique at my house tomorrow night!

and the rest of you crazies… link up!

Cute wreath! And being comfortable during vacation is what it’s all about. Thanks for hosting WIWW. It’s really made me start wanting to shop again and dress up. My hubby loves it!

I love that your windows are clean to showcase your lovely wreath. It’s all in the details.

ooo….I LOVE the yarn ball wreath! That would look amazing on my girls’ bedroom door. Did you get the pink wreath this year at that price? Or incredible after Christmas deals years before? Thanks again so much for hosting WIWW and the fabulous wreath!

Love the “pop” of colour in your wreath. Nice work!
Can I ask what your family wore for your photo shoot please?
As in did you coordinate outfits?
We are getting casual pics done of our family of six this weekend here in Aus, on the beach near our house.
I was thinking mainly red for the kids and us with denim jeans/shorts and two girls in dresses, but unsure if maybe we need another colour, like white to break it up. What do you think?
    Would love your feedback.
Can’t wait to see your family pics :)

    Your wreath is adorable Lindsey!

Adorable wreath! I’ve seen one completly made with yarn balls and thought it would be a little hard to make, but you make it seem so simple… maybe I’ll give it a try to decorate my studio. :)
    Thank you for sharing!

I’m having a giveaway at my blog, you’re welcome to participate – http://soscraft.blogspot.com

How in the heck do you have time to do projects for the house when your shop is rockin?!! I have been staying up until like 2 in the morining trying to get orders out the door. I may never get caught up:/ But, that is the cutest wreath ever!!

Loving your yarn ball wreath=) Too adorable!

  11. 11

I bought those dollar spot balls too! Could not pass up that deal. They are in a trifle bowl in the middle of my table.

  12. 12

Another comment from me. I asked at three Starbucks last year if they would sell those wreaths to me after Christmas. All said no and they just toss them. That is just wrong. I love your adaptation!

  13. 13

Love your wreath! I can’t get enough of the yarn covered balls. I don’t think I’ll stop with Christmas! Really enjoy your blog!

  14. 14

I just love the slippers from Walmart they remind me of the sock monkey. I might just have to go shopping to see if I can find them at my local Walmart.

  15. 15

You and your SIL looked darling on Thanksgiving day! Your Walmart slippers are awesome…jerk. :) I swoon over anything sweatery + stripey! Love your funky wreath too.

  18. 18

OK, that yarn ball wreath is PRECIOUS!!!!!!!! I would have never thought….

And I was thinking if you give out an award for the worst thumbnail picture EVER….I nominate myself. Don’t have any idea what happened but holy cow…wish I could erase it. :) I totally brought the WIWW post down today! :)

What a cute and colorful wreath! And I love your WIWW. If I didn’t live in workout clothes I’d love to participate. Someday :)

  22. 22

I love your cute little shirt dress and I need some slippers!
    lOve your wreath!

  23. 23

I LOVE that wreath! I just made an entire wreath that was yarn wrapped with handmade yarn pom poms attached to it along with some glittered pink deer!! It cost me a whopping $2! Don’t you love those inexpensive fabulous handmade decorations!

Rachel, your wreath sounds amazing, too! And do I have yarn…i’m not sure but I think my fave craftstore is only regional (PatCatan’s,anyone? They also own Darice craft supplies. Both avlbl on the web) and they have bins of mill ends by top yarn manufacturer’s-a pound for $4.99! Most skeins cost that much, and you usually get 4 skeins–and I haven’t found any crappy yarn in a year! May I borrow your idea, too? Thinkin’ it might be non-Cmas or for nxt yr, as behind on life as I am (just refractured a knee, avascular necrosis,ow). -s-

  24. 25

LOVE the wreath! So creative, colorful and bright!

    Keep up the crafting!

  25. 26

Love the wreath! I think I am stealing this idea for my daughter’s room. She is obsessed with polka dots right now, so this would be adorable!

I love nontraditional wreaths. I am making one of wine corks for my front door!

Thanks for posting so many inspirational things! I love coming here to see what you’re making now!

  26. 27

Love, love, LOVE the wreath! Wishing we weren’t under 9″ of fresh snow and I could make a Target run, I definitely need to make it for my living room!

  27. 28

I LOVE your wreath. Great colors and it looks so beautiful!

  28. 29

Lindsey, I have become obsessed with your blog. I.JUST.LOVE.IT. You are real and I think that’s what makes me love this blog even more. You created a FABULOUS wreath that I must try. It’s super duper cute.

Also, I failed to jump on the bandwagon of your cyber monday sale. I’m in DESPERATE need of a heather gray petal pusher. My baby boy is having 6 month pictures taken Dec. 11th and I REALLY wanted to wear a heather gray petal pusher from you. Do you think you could get one made for me? I’m asking this and I’m SURE you have all the time in the world to make me one especially since you’re not busy creating things for The Stitch Market. :) (I’m being sarcastic.) Would you have time tho?

  29. 30

This is my destination every wednesday. Love what you do and that wreath is so funky.

  30. 31

Thanks for sharing your outfits and that awesome wreath!!! You, Denise, and that wreath just sparkle :)

  31. 32

Love that wreath! And I think even I could make that!

  32. 33

I LOVE that wreath! My husband is the wreath master around here (I actually blogged about his wreaths this week), but after Christmas I may get the supplies to make this next year! So cute!!!

  33. 34

i have to make a wreath like that! too cute!
    love your outfits!

  34. 35

    super cute wreath!!!!!!!!

  35. 36

LOVE the yarnball wreath! Funky is good. Taught myself to loomknit since LarryLupus&ArthurItis dont let me hold the appropriate needles&hooks, so I *do* have yarn. And wreath forms. I love doing outrageous colors for color-blocked throws&wraps–so far just for friends&family, but a local jewelry&art gallery askd me to make some pieces for her shop. She’s really close to some gr8 restaurants & the post-clubbing crowd is always cold. Could be valuable for both of us. I will happily credit you (with contact info) on the tag-would you mind if I made her some wreaths, too? (if she agrees) And if it’s a no that’s ok& I will abide by it. Just a thought…-s-

  36. 37

That wreath is SO cute! And so very you. I admire your creativity girl. And your Wal-Mart booties are hot, don’t deny it.

  37. 38

I have been meaning to say this for weeks now…but in my personal opinion you should only wear skinny jeans. They are so flattering on you and look fabulous. I love your outfits much more when you do! :) Basically you have hot legs!

  38. 39

That wreath is pure amazingness! You rock! I’ve been thinking about making one of these for a few weeks now, but I’m always so worried about making anything cute cause our darn cats are crazy! One is a kitten and is insane and she in-turn makes the other cats go crazy then too….

  39. 40

I LOVE that wreath! I might make it for my secret sister at church! She sews too!

I love you forever 21 shirt dress. too cute!

  40. 41

I love your wreath! I actually saw the same ones last year at Starbucks, took a photo with my phone intending to make one of my own, and then completely forgot until now :) I just might be inspired enough from your post to gather some supplies to make mine now!

  41. 42

Love your wreath, girl! Great job!
