the halls are decked

welcome to my house!

first let me offer you a cup of wassel (recipe coming soon)

isn’t this the perfect pretty for my desk?!  it was a gift from my sweet joy.

this white feather tree (michael’s after christmas sale) holds all the kid-made ornaments and my childhood ornaments, and sits in the playroom.

these 3 vintage trees sit on my porch, courtesy of my mom.

the mantle

a mix of feather trees and fabric wrapped trees, and yarn ball ornaments

a tiny bit of decor in the kids’ bath

tree candles from pottery barn and star boxes from tjmaxx (all from ~10 years ago)

3 tiny wreaths hanging above the buffet

dangling ornaments from the world’s largest birdcage

and my favorite new change this year is the yarn balls on the chandelier!

a pretty cake plate with more ornaments.  pretty right?  now for the reality…

this is what everything really looks like.  how do people keep their house clean all the time?!   i need to find a volunteer housekeeper…

Love your decorations! I made the same wreath after I read your tutorial- it’s one of my favorite things~ Also, love your “reality” picture.. It makes me feel better about my house :)

  7. 7

I love your style. Those yard balls are such a clever idea. Thanks for the tour.

  8. 8

    Love it!!!

  9. 9

i would be so focused on the clutter that i would miss the beauty. i love that you can capture the beauty within the chaos. i admire that quality in you.

    very pretty.

  10. 10

I love love LOVE your decorations!!! Especially the yarn balls hanging from the chandelier! SOO cute!

  11. 11

You have totally inspired me Lindsey! I just made a list of all of the things I need for my upcoming girls Christmas get-together I’m hosting! Thank you, thank you!! :)

  12. 12

I’m loving the colors and the simplicity of it all! Wow, you have a beautiful home! I would die for a mantle and bookcase combo like that it my home.

  13. 13

wow, i’m impressed (and humbled)- I usually decorate the tree and mantel, and call it a day!

  14. 14

Everything is so beautiful and charming! I try my hardest to keep my house tidy, but it seems like a never ending job! I have been thinking about doing some fabric wrapped trees like the ones on your mantle, I may just have to try it now that I have seen yours. I was also thinking yarn wrapped trees would be cute!

  15. 15

I love all your decorations. I just have a decorated tree. :( I HAVE to do better next year. I think I will make a list of things I want to do and work on it throughout the year….hopefully.

  16. 16

i love everything about your decorating this winter, especially the mantle and those little trees with yarn balls… oh, and the chandelier… SO fun!
wishing you a warm and cozy week!
    :)

  17. 17

Oh Lindsay, your home has soooo many wonderfully unique touches! I adore the yarn from the lamp, the spool wreath… and so much more!

Wait till you see my 3 kitchen windows. They are a junk variation of your own 3. :)

Beautifully done! Your colours are so joyful, just like your creations.

Your house is absolutely gorgeous. I love decorating for Christmas but nothing I do is nearly as creative as all of your beautiful stuff. Thanks for sharing!

  19. 19

Needless to say your home is gorgeous and it looks amazing. As for a tidy home – forget it! People who have immaculate homes either don’t “live” in them or don’t have kids. Period. Of course, it’s important to keep everything from looking chaotic, but “lived in” is perfectly acceptable.

Now I’m off to make some more wreaths and a banner to hang on our bookcase.

  20. 20

    Pie plate idea – DARLING!!!

  21. 21

I made your yarn ball wreath. Mine is not as pretty as yours. It’s for my mother. She was my secret sister for church this year. I used a green wreath since she isn’t into sparkle. Thanks so much for a great idea!

  22. 22

I love your bathrooms – really – I’m copying some details as we re-do our master :) All your decorations are so pretty, and THANK YOU for the reality check at the end! Because that’s what my house looks like.

  23. 23

    I love the yarn balls!

    Just Better Together

  24. 24

ME TOO! I need a cleaning lady!! I am in love with the yarn balls this year too. I have a few laying around for decoration. I love the fabric trees on the mantle. So funny, because I just did a post about the same thing:) SUPER cute decorations lindsey!

  25. 25

Glad I’m not the only one who holds onto things forever :)

  26. 26

I love it! And a somewhat unkempt home is charming and lived in…Besides your home looks beautiful! BUT if you happen to land Zoila for free or homemade cookies I am in!

  27. 27

LOL — linds, you are so great. cropping photos sure hides the mess <3

love you! make sure you take time for yourself this Christmas. AKA: eat lots of chocolate ;-)

Lyndsey…your home looks so beautiful. You give me such inspiration ~ thank you. Happy Holidays!

  36. 37

I absolutely love your house! Seriously, if I could redo my entire house, I would use yours as a model! I love how it’s so fresh and clean, yet cozy and warm at the same time. And the pops of color in your Christmas decor is perfect.

  37. 38

I hear you on the housekeeper thing… you have a beautiful home!

  38. 39

I am loving the kids’ bathroom! Maybe one day you could do a post on it? I will be redoing our bathroom soon for our 2 boys and am sure I’d be inspired by your great sense of style!

  39. 40

I love the yarn balls and ornaments hanging from the chandelier and I absolutely LOVE the fabric trees on your mantle. Did I miss that tutorial??? Love it!

  40. 41

it is impossible to keep my house clean. i love how you used all the ornaments. :)gina

  41. 42

I am loving all the yarn balls! You’re inspiring me to be WAY more colorful this year! The window wreaths are georgeous, as well. Thanks for sharing!!

  42. 43

Your mantel looks AMAZING!!! Will you please come decorate mine? Please? :) Of course, first I would have to renovate my house so that my mantle even looks like that. That’s okay though, we can spend a few days tackling it all. Seriously though, it’s all beautiful!

  43. 44

I love your decorating. I like how everything is so nice and put together. Great ideas! Great job pulling out all those old trees from 10 years ago. You never know when you are going to need something or find a way to use them!

  44. 45

I loooooove wassel and make it every year for October and November get-togethers! Most people don’t know what it is!

  45. 46

    Lovely!

Cleaning your house while your kids are still growing up is like shoveling the walk before it stops snowing. ~Phyllis Diller
Besides, it will be much too clean when the little ones are gone :(

  46. 47

love all of your bright colors!! could you please share where you got your “BELIEVE” banner? or i bet you made it! any tips on how to do it? so fantastic!!

  47. 48

Your house is beautiful! I love it!!!! I love the yarn balls!

  48. 49

It’s beautiful and magical! I love all the fun colors. I went all minimalistic this year and put out only a few decorations – now you’re making me want to go out and buy/make lots of new stuff to adorn the house. :)

  49. 50

Your deocrations are so fun and colorful. The yarn balls look really neat. Wassel is delicious. I use my mother-in-law’s recipe, and I’m curious to see how you make yours. Thanks for adding the last photo. I always wonder the same thing about people keeping a clean house, especially with little ones. How do they do it? It reminds me of Meg’s post at whatever the other day where she photographed all the rooms in her house. All I could post in the comment section was “thank you.”

  50. 51

Everything is beautiful. I absolutely love your DIY wreath! I wish I had time to make one.
    XOXO

  51. 52

Your house is beautiful, Lindsey! Absolutely darling decorations … love, love, love them! Even better is your shot of reality. I hear ya on the volunteer housekeeper. You have a beautiful house! I especially love the kids’ bathroom…I picture the same thing when we build a house {some day in the future}. :) Thanks for posting. I love house pictures. Thanks for making me feel better about the condition of my house too with your last photo! :) With a love for crafting and 3 little kids home all day, a house just doesn’t stay clean!

  56. 57

Your home is *lovely*! I ~adore~ the yarn balls on the chandelier! And people who keep their houses spotless have a house, *not* a home. Especially with kids! They really don’t “live” there, i’m sure of it. -s-

  57. 58

a clean house? i had one of those once ~ about the same time i only did laundry once a week! three children later those days are long gone. but i would not change it for the world! except for the stepping on legos in the middle of the night part.

your home looks lovely and the colors are calming.

  58. 59

love the honesty!! Thanks so much for the last photo.

  59. 60

  60. 61

Very beautiful and inspiring. Thank you for the tour.

  61. 62

  66. 67

LOVE the yarn balls from the chandelier too. I am thinking that craft is in my Christmas future. I love the trees too. Seriously everything is way beautiful.

  67. 68

Love your Christmas decor! Where did you find the turquoise ball ornaments. I can’t find them anywhere! Thank you so much!

  68. 69

    Pretty. Pretty. Pretty!

  69. 70

Oh how I loved that last picture, because it’s so true. As my neighbour said, while clearing off a spot at the kitchen table…where to do people put all of this stuff?! Made my year when she said that. :) Looks the same for you too. ;)

  70. 71

Oh my d-d-dear, Lindsey – I love your decorations and colors. I especially love the fabric-wrapped foam trees and your dangling ornaments. Beeee-u-tee-ful! :)

  71. 72

Lindsey, I love your Christmas decor, especially your fabric-wrapped trees. So clever. The ornaments hanging from the chandelier are perfect. I know what my new decorations will be next year. Thank you so much for sharing!

  72. 73

I love all of it. So wonderful. I do have a question, I have been trying to find a feather tree like the one you found at Michael’s (bought one for a friend in the hospital last year and wished I’d been able afford one for myself at the time). Do you know who made it. I like it so much better than anything I’ve found this year. Thanks for any information you may be able to provide, and have a very Merry Christmas.
