balboa island

over our christmas break, we spent part of a day at balboa island

and i chose this house to be our “summer home”. and i’ll have a butler and a maid. and a chef.

we walked on the tiny rain-soaked beaches

and took the ferry over to the peninsula

and it’s not a trip to balboa if you don’t get a frozen banana

and ask to do really over-priced things

but we had blue skies and were taking full advantage of the rain taking a break for a day

look!  they’re not even fighting!  quick – get the camera!

love luuuuve this girl and her gappy teef

yummy chipotle mac ‘n cheese

oh, the freckles!

a quick stroll on the pier, which was short lived because they spotted…

the giant climbing thing!  yes, this is really what beaches in southern california look like.  one of the things i miss most.

when did she get so old?  did i blink?

look out for the plane, lu!

oh no. why would you hold on to the ropes with 2 hands or at least have 2 feet firmly planted when you’re 30 feet (i may exaggerate a little) up in the sky?  yes, lean out son.  then jump up and down a little.  thanks. now i really know you’re a boy.

this is what happens when you try to pose 3 kids for a charlie’s angels shot, and 2 of them don’t know how to make a gun with their fingers.  deprived children.

typical kid shot: gracie looking adorable, lily trying to be fancy, and silas being… silas.

so i’ll just take a pic of your cute feet instead!

i love family days!

Love Balboa Island! Used to live in SoCal and I miss the warm weather mostly year round. Now I’m in Texas where today it is a lovely 27 degrees. Too cold for this Cali girl! Glad you all had a lot of fun.

looks like fun….that shot of just the legs would make a great canvas…I had several made of my g-kids for Christmas…maybe I should take pictures of them and blog…will get right on that…have a great day!

Your family? Adorable! Seriously, I had five kids and I know cute. Your family could sell toothpaste!
Balboa Island has been a family favourite of ours for generations. My sister wanted to live there so badly one summer she packed ten girls into two a TINY bungalow and sub-rented the garage out to 6 boys! Now my daughter lives on the island and she loves it! You just can’t beat that tiny little island…frozen banana or Balboa bar in hand!

Thanks for the memories! I grew up in N. CA and went to Balboa Island with my mom, her best friend and daughter. We stayed in an amazing little beach cottage and It’s where my mom finally let me get my ears pierced! So fun…
Those are the times that matter!

love balboa! it’s one of my favorite places. when my sister was little she called balboa bars “balbalona bars.” unfortunately for her we’ve never let her forget it. glad you had such a nice day enjoying the sun and the sand

I love Balboa Island and Newport Beach. They are the reasons that we moved to Orange County when I was in 7th grade. We used to go to Newport, every Spring break when I was little. Now we live only a few miles away.

Ooh how I love Balboa! Truth is you’d take almost any house on the island to be a summer spot, no? And personally, I prefer the Balboa Bar to the chocolate frozen banana. Brings back memories. Very good ones. Thanks for making my day!

That was a fun giggle for the day – the way they were looking at their hands to do Charlie’s Angels – priceless!
