vintage globes

i put my mom on the task of finding me some vintage globes last spring.  because she travels a lot and loves thrift stores, i knew she’d find them sooner than i would.

but i forgot to tell her to stop!  ok, really, i just loved it when she and my dad visited every month and she’d have a new globe or 2 for me!

but i think that’s about it.  unless she finds a medium or small sized one – i’ll take those!

do you have a new collection obsession lately?

(ps – wall color is silver sage by restoration hardware)

Oh my goodness I am on the hunt for old globes…LOVE them. If she finds anymore…send’em to Texas :) Haha

  2. 2

Nah, no new collections, it’s still the same: Interesting old picture frames to spray paint, fabric and dust. I collect lots and lots of dust. And display it on my shelves. It really shows of well there :)

I have a big fat puffy heart love obsession with Silver Sage. It my Uber color. Goes with almost everything! P.s. loving the paneled white ceiling. Trying to talk my hubby into it for our master bedroom.

Those globes are fantastic. Such a wonderful collection, I love it.

They look cool up there next to your cabinets and paint choice. When I was in my 20’s I collected pigs. Not just any pigs though but no one realized that and that was what I got all.the.time! When I moved out west I saved only the ones I absolutely loved because what didn’t fit in my car didn’t come with me. I purged more before moving to NC. Now I have a fascination with hand mirrors. I probably have 10 or so that I found throughout the years but now that I have a place I want to put them my desire for more is back. Collecting is a sickness. You are lucky to have a mama to collect FOR you lol :)

I collect the old Atlas Good Luck jars. Only the ones with a big clover on them. They are hard to find and that helps keep the collection small-ish. I started collecting them because my daughter was born on St. Patrick’s Day, so I will share them with her when she has her own home. :) I have about 6 large and 2 small jars so far. Most still with the glass lids and wire.

I collect little, mini dishes. You know, like the ones people use by the side of the kitchen sink to put their wedding ring in while they are cooking?!? Except I have mine everywhere!!!

  7. 7

Love the globes! Your kitchen is so cute :)

  8. 8

Good post. Love the wall color. You also inspired me for a retirement party idea!

  9. 9

they look great! and i’m super jeal of your beautiful high ceilings! :) great job with the suitcases also!

  10. 10

    They are so cute!

  11. 11

I share your obsession with mason jars, particularly the antique blue ones. I also collect miniature tea sets for my daughter. Love the globes and where you’ve featured them in your home. Great idea.

  12. 12

Cute! Can you take a close up photo of that ‘Daily Rules’ thing on your wall? :)

  13. 14

I have never thought to put globes in a Kitchen, but they look fabulous!!

I am still obsessed with glass jars… of all shapes, sizes and colors.

  14. 15

I’m not a collector, but I have been collecting globes…love them. Your collection is WAY bigger than mine.

  15. 16

I have one globe… It was my grandfather’s and i love it. Need to find some more. I have been collecting milk glass like crazy for the last few years.

  16. 17

LOL! I did the same thing with my mom and milk glass. And oh my gosh, I now have it coming out of my ears! But it’s wonderful to have a mom that supports our addictions. ;)

  17. 18

I just recently started collecting globes, too! Your collection looks great! I only have 2 so far, but I definitely need a few more. I love the black one you have!

  18. 19

Love them! And your kitchen looks fab!
    Happy Tuesday!

  19. 20

I have globes on the tops of my kitchen cabinets too. :) I love them. But, I only have 5 right now…garage sales and every time I go to the thrift store I try to snag one. For between $3-$5, they are cheap decor! :) I love your dark blue one…so neat!

  20. 21

P.S. They look really cool on top of your old suitcases!

  21. 22

oh, those are fantastic! love it!

  22. 23

Hey Lindsey, I’ve never said it before, but now that I’ve met you (that one time :), I feel like I should say it. Your kitchen is FABULOUS! Everything from the beadboard to the white/gray, the island, and the hardware…love it all. I’m sure it will serve as great inspiration for me one day. ;-)

    Hi there miss Lindsey!!
I love those three tiered baskets you have. You have one on your kitchen counter with fruit it. Where do you find those? I’ve wanted a couple for ever and can’t seem to find them.
    Cheers!

Love vintage globes. My boys have some in their room. I love vintage china!

  28. 29

Thanks for inclucing the paint color . . . I was just wondering what it was right before I read it =)

  29. 30

Actually, seeing your globes and Meg’s globes in the kitchen inspired me to start looking for vintage globes! I still need more though!

  30. 31

My husband and I went to an estate sale about a month ago and we found a globe that lights up! We’re putting it in our baby room as decor and hopefully a learning tool in the coming years! I love globes!

  31. 32

LOVE this!!! I love when you post house pictures, because I want to move right in. I have very similar taste to yours. I should just show my husband your house, and say, “I want that”..LOL Your bedroom re-do inspired me to get onto mine. We are painting tomorrow!

  32. 33

oh I love it! I have been wanting to collect globes for years now, but they are always so expensive. I’m going to set my mom (she lives in another state) on it for me! Brilliant!

  33. 34

I have a small globe collection also. Small ones are so hard to find. My current collection obsession is cut glass. I have cake plates, vases, candle sticks. I want to fill my entire pie cabinet with them. So far I have two shelves.

  34. 35

    Love the globes! I can not resist rabbits! {decorations not real}

  35. 36

I have been collecting mason jars!! I fell in love with your post on how much you {heart} mason jars… (I thought I was the only one). I will be using them as centerpeices for my wedding!!!

  41. 42

Oh Lindsey! Your collection of globes is beautiful!! I’m so envious!! I have been collecting globes for a few years now. I have several large ones, 1 medium & a few small. I am intrigued by them & I am always on the hunt for more! A couple months ago a friend of mine gave me a little moon & just did a little blog post about it over at http://WWW.flatt52.blogspot.com

    Love your wall color too!!

  42. 43

I get absolutely obsessed with collection-type ideas! I go on wild goose chases regularly! But I do love those globes:) Good luck finding a small one…

for some strange reason I have collected many oscar mayer weiner whistles over the years. While snowed in for several days last week I dug through some boxes of misc. decor junk and started gathering them up. I put them in a mason jar in the living room. Strangly cute…but not as cute as those globes

  44. 45

Those globes are gorgeous! If your mom keeps bringing them, you can just send them my way :). I just saw Jenny from SIDAC’s photo of you two at Blissdom — sounds like it was fun!

  45. 46

I just found your blog. It is DARLING! You are darling. I love your house, your clothes, and your projects. Thanks for the inspiration!

O.M.G. I love the globes on top of your cabinets! I have a minor obsession with globes/maps also! I majored in geography in college…so i used map scrapbook paper on the edge of all of my portfolio. just wanted to let you know i love it!

  47. 48

Those are sooo cute. It reminded me of when my kids were little I had one also. We made our own game out of spinning the globe and putting my finger down and the girls had to tell me where I was. A really cool game and they knew their geography (well according to the globe) really well. Then they went to school they found out that some countries were missing from the map there and shared that the teachers map was wrong. Now it is silly, but my kids were so confused on how contries change.

  48. 49

I love this idea. However, what caught my eye is the painting hanging in the background. It appears that it says Family Rules. I would love to know what the details of that are. Please share!

Just found your blog and love it – I want globes for the top of my china cabinet and have just alerted my mom! I hope she has the same luck.
