color in the kitchen

i keep trying to think of springy colors to bring into my home, and only pastels come to mind.  for some reason, pastels just seem too bleh.  i need COLOR!

then i looked around my whitey white kitchen and saw lots of fun pops…

tea and coffee canisters that are actually used for, get this, tea and coffee!  i know, i really thought outside the box, er canister, on that one.  i love the recipes in martha stewart everday food almost as much as i like the color blocking on the spines!

a cheery mix of gifted, store bought, home-made, and vintage aprons

i had to laugh at this happy accident – cups in rainbow order!  i love it when a chore can be pretty!  how often does that happen?

the hand towels next to the sink that i used to insist on being neatly rolled up and tucked in the bowl are so much more realistically tossed in.

our daily table centerpiece, holding all the essentials to a happy meal: napkins for cleanliness, family devotional for godliness, salt & pepper for taste, and straws for fun!

I need a table centerpiece like that. It never fails that the minute I sit down at dinner someone needs a papertowel and for some reason I still never predict it. :)

Oh I have those canisters also and love them so much! I have Flour, Sugar, Coffee, Tea and a rectangle one that says biscuits. As my tastes in kitchen decor has changed and evolved they have managed to coordinate with everything. I can’t imagine your taste changing tho. Your kitchen is so cute!

Love the hand towels in a bowl idea!
And I’m addicted to pretty cups! I buy way too many – but they’re cheap and cute – who can resist that?!?

  18. 18

Love the colors! Where did you get your soap pump jars? I’ve been looking for ones just like that! Please let me know!

Love all your pops of color!

Your dishwasher photo made me smile because I’m the same way about loading or unloading the dishwasher filled with our Fiestaware, seeing all the different colors on the racks make that chore much more pleasant. Color = joy.

We have Little Visits with God devotional book too–love it!

    How Happy!!

  23. 23

When I first moved into my house the kitchen was such a boring dull white and grey. So I bought a bunch of brightly colored dishes, pots, pans, utensils, tupperware… everything! And then I realized that you can’t see any of that when the cupbaord doors are closed. Oopsie! I got some pretty dishtowels and decorative bowls to make up for it, but I’m still tempted to just leave the cabinet doors open so I can see all the color.

Love your color pops, especially the aprons :)

  24. 24

This is too honkin’ cute!! I adore those S&P shakers!!

  25. 25

Loving all those bright happy splashes of color!

I love it! The colors are beautifu. gotta love Martha. Not only is she excellent at it all, she chose beautiful colors!

  27. 27

Georgeous! Thanks for reminding us to find the beauty right in front of our eyes.
And you just changed my life. Why why do I put my beautiful napkins in a drawer and clear the S&P after every meal? I’ve got the perfect tray! Much better than dumb candles I never light.
Thanks Lindsey! Made my day! :)

  30. 30

What gorgeous colors!! I too am wondering where the glass straw holder came from… I want one :)

  31. 31

What a nice reminder to see beauty (and color) in the ordinary! Makes me look around my house a little differently ;)

  32. 32

Love this post. It is so fun to have pops of color in the kitchen. I love when I can find cute ways to display color. Right now I’ve got a clear jar of lollipop and our reuse bags ( bread, bagels or snack bags we can reuse). It’s a fun pop of color. Thanks for helping us all see that spring is on the way.

  33. 33

I love your soap dispensers too…and the Little Visits With God book was something MY mom read to us when we were kids (I’m 35 now)…she was just going through some old books and I saw it in the cast-away box and pulled it out to keep b/c of the memories. :)

  34. 34

That is too funny…I just bought that same coffee can and a thrift store. I love it! & I love all of your aprons!

  35. 35

So fun to see the children’s devotional, Little Visits with God on your table. My husband grew up hearing these lessons each morning, and we try to read it to our little ones esch day. We are currently reading from the copy my husband learned from. What great lessons to teach youngsters!

  36. 36

I love the bowl of towels! So you normally roll your clean towels and keep them in the bowl so they are easy to grab? Great pictures/post!

  37. 37

I really like your daily table centerpiece! Why didn’t I think of that :)

  38. 38

Love the inspiration. And great idea with the washcloths – cute AND realistic :)

  39. 39

I just love the colors around your home! It has been snowing here in Chicago again. I need to get some more color around here! “i love it when a chore can be pretty! how often does that happen?” I feel the same way! We eat on Fiesta every. single. day. My dishwasher is beautiful too!

  40. 40

Love the color inspiration – you’re right, it is hiding all around the house if we just take a minute to look for it!

  41. 41

Love all your color!! I especially love the aprons hanging. :)

  42. 42

would you mind to share more on how you do your family devotionals? I LOVE that you put it on the kitchen table, something that has not occured to me. Do you do it with or around meal time? I keep a childrens devotional book in my car for the other children in with me while the one is at piano, dance, soccer, baseball.. etc. This week started sports in additon to our ‘cultural’ lessons and has become quite overwhelming with trying to get dinner and homework in there as well. I also have a baby that I am dragging around with these older children. I am always intereste to hear how other mommies handle these types of situations.

  43. 43

    yay for color!!

  44. 44

    Love those jadeite shakers!!

  45. 45

Love those cups in rainbow colors! So pretty!
