entryway coat hooks

i recently showed you my front entry.  in much better light.

but what i didn’t show you was our lack of a coat closet.  we kind of forgot to build a coat closet and a broom closet in our house – oops!

years ago i made this pretty window which hung in the front entry, but it hangs so much more perfectly in the girls’ room now.

but now… looky looky, i’ve got hook…ies?

i picked up 6 random, funky, beautiful hooks and hung them at all different levels.

i *love* the middle hook – reminds me of the circus!

and these pretties down low are perfect for purses and kids coats!

i love the pop of color the hooks bring to the wall, as well as the balance and functionality they provide!

hooks: anthropologie

wall paint: silver sage by restoration hardware

dresser paint:  french pale gold by behr

be kind print:  the wheatfield

ruffled scarf: the pleated poppy

We have several of those same Anthropologie hooks in our entry-sans-coat-closet. They have such a great selection. We took it a step further and bought each member of the family a tote from LL Bean, hung them on the hooks, and now we each have our own spot for storing gloves/mittens/scarves. It works really well for corraling kids’ winter gear!

    So cute!!

Oops. Clearly I feel very strongly about this idea. ;-)

Love the hooks. I really like how you miss-matched them. It gives the space a lot more character and it overall looks more fun! :)

  10. 10

What a good idea! I love the randomness of the hooks and the various colors! Inspiring! Thanks for sharing your wonderful ideas :-)

  11. 11

I saw a similar idea to this on Ask Genevieve (hgtv) a while back and have been obsessed with it. I LOVE IT so much! Totally want to do this.

  12. 12

    Hi Lindsey!

I’m over here from V and Co. Cute idea on the hooks. What a great way to use something cool and useful!

  13. 13

I love that you didn’t make the hooks all the same and even hung them at different heights! Very cute and functional. Much easier to throw a coat on a hook than hang it in a closet anyway ;)

  14. 14

We had to do the SAME thing at our house! However, all my hooks are plain white – borrring!!! I’m IN LOVE with all your random hooks! You are SO clever!!! I could tell right away that they were from anthropologie :) LOVE IT!!!!!!! I just want to copy everything you do ;) Hahaha

    Amy Giffin says:

ADORABLE!! Once again- I want to be like you when I grow up! :)

  16. 16

I love the variety of different hooks Lindsey. It looks more “collected & unplanned” than if everything were all matchy matchy.

  17. 17

Love the hooks! Such a good idea!

  18. 18

Super cute hooks! I would have hooks all over my wall if I could find ones like that!

  19. 19

    So cute! love the hooks!

    Nancy Davis says:

Love this! I too have a hookless problem in my entryway. Can’t wait to try this!! Glad i found you thru V&CO.

  23. 23

Very cute. I thought of Anthropologie when I saw your varied selection. We don’t have much closet space at our cabin either, so all the bedrooms have hooks on the backs of the doors.

    Melissa H says:

Great blog, and I love all your cute creations, I’m over from V&Co. :)

  25. 25

“…looky, looky, I’ve got hook…ies?” Hahaha too darn cute!

So then, what do you do with your brooms? Simliar situation here. Poor vacuum – not a home in sight for her, so out she sits by the piano. No good.

Also, I love the basket by the door. So neat and polished! And FUNCTIONAL.

  28. 28

    LOVE the hooks Lindsey! :)

  29. 29

How could you forget a coat closet?? haha! I love the hooks. Very cute!

  30. 30

Hey Lindsey! I’m over here from V&Co., and I’m so glad she sent me! I’ve got about 5 old window frames that I picked up off the side of the road on trash day last summer (seriously, who throws away treasures like that? But I’m glad they did, because they woulda cost me $20-$30 each at an antique store!!). The problem is, although they are gorgeous, I haven’t had any ideas as to what to do with them! I love adding dresser knobs and paper to them and turning them into a decorative coat rack. Thanks for the idea!!

  31. 31

I love the hook idea. We have a coat closet, but it’s too narrow and the girls can’t get to their jackets very easily. It would be great to put a couple hooks down at their level… And different hooks at different levels is fantastic!

    That looks amazing!
