weekend away

we decided last week to join sean on a work trip.  sounds fun, right?  we all (me included) got the stomach flu while we were gone, so it put a different spin on the trip  than we had originally planned.

we started at a really nice hotel in sacramento, where sean had to go for work.  i loved the hotel’s sleek, modern aesthetic.

this is a bridge from sac on our way to san francisco.  the kids thought it was funny that this one was golden but the golden gate bridge is not!

here’s our hotel room in san fran.  pretty, yes?  the 2 chairs by the window pushed together for the perfect extra bed for kiddo #3.

and the irony of all ironies: be well.  that is the last thing any of us were in that hotel!  but we did our best to still get out and about and have a good time.  or die trying!

1.  cable car  2.  hotel lobby lights  3. anthro window display  4.  gracie grinning through the flu – the kids were amazing with feeling the way they did – such troopers!

the first night in san fran we just walked down market street from our hotel and shopped a little and ate dinner.  we were up all night with some sick child.

then i wrote this post.

then i woke up, having jinxed myself and i was out for the count.

sean rallied and was super dad and took the kids. for the entire day!  no naps, nothing.  they let me sleep all day and by 9:30 that night i felt so much better!  while i snoozed away, they rode the cable cars, went to pier 39, fisherman’s wharf, and the aquarium by the bay.

the next day we went out sightseeing, over the bridge.  we had beautiful weather the entire weekend, other than sunday which was not so much raining, but more misty.

some people look through the telescope thingies like this.

monkeys do it differently.

sean took us up to a hillside where he’s mountain biked above the city – great view!

a little china town

then we spent the rest of the day at the science museum, which had a huge aquarium as well.  here are the girls watching a diver.

1.  some crazy sea horse thing (i think that’s the technical term)  2.  jelly fish.  lily was really into the jellies as she just read night of the moon jellies  3.  lily got really into photography as i braved letting her use my camera  4.  a butterfly in the rain forest exhibit – the other side was a bright blue!

our last day we went to the zeum, a children’s museum just blocks from our hotel.  sean and i got in free and got 25% off the kids’ admission with AAA.  we discovered with a little research, that if you are a b of a account holder you can present your card to a number of museums and they have free days.  we found a few just in san fran that were free!  we will definitely be using that more often when we travel.

you can click this link for a little claymation video we made at zeum with the kids ;)

What a great family vacation. Jumped to your blog reading a comment on Sheri from Design 2 shine. She mentioned something about an event called ‘what I wore wednesday’ and was just curious as to what that was about since I guess you started it for SAHM at first and I am one.
    Thank you.

What hotel did you stay in? We are about 1 1/2 hours away from SF so it makes for a nice little get away.

LOL, I knew that was where you stayed when I read that you were close to Anthro and you booked on Priceline. We stayed there twice in the last month! I hope everyone is well now. :)

It looks like you had a fun weekend, despite being sick. And that’s great advice about using your Bank of America card. I’ll have to look in to that when we travel!
