preppy “little man” baby shower

it’s been awhile, but my friend joy and i had the pleasure of throwing a shower for our friend kate.  kate is pregnant with her 4th – 3 girls and now a boy!  joy and i actually threw kate a shower for her first baby – so fun!

our inspiration for this shower actually came from a shower my sister-in-law courtney threw. we did our own little twist on it and made it a little more preppy than cute.  plus, i’ve been dying over the colors navy, grey and kelly green together, so this was just a fun excuse to play!

i made tiny pennants out of scraps of fabric glued to baker’s twine, then tied to dowels that joy placed in moss covered florist’s foam on top of the candle holders.  that’s teamwork!

joy has this awesome looong dining table that was perfect for the shower.  and i just happened to have fabric to use as a table cloth and runner!

joy made super yummy carrot cake cupcakes with a cream cheese frosting with a touch of orange flavor in it – sooo good!

she also cut out each of these adorable mustache cupcake toppers by hand – now that’s dedication!

the flowers (hydrangeas, daisies, bachelor buttons and mums) were all in square vases wrapped in strips of navy polka dot fabric.

we served limeade and water…

in mason jars (my signature glass for entertaining)…

with simple metal rimmed tags from the office supply store…

and the cutest grey striped paper straws in the whole wide world!

we served root beer in the bottle in a navy-rimmed enamel bowl (to honor the manly side of the shower).

i made these fun bow ties for each of the guests to wear!

i just happened to have all the fabric i needed on hand!  tutorial here

i found a few spare minutes a couple days before the shower to whip up these pillows to pretty up the couch – i love adding in the little details!

we tied tiny strips of fabric to a rope strung across the room.

a few extra treats never hurt anyone ;)

to stick with the theme, joy made a yummy “bow tie” pasta!

ikea just happened to have all things navy and green, so i snagged these napkins for just a couple bucks, and put them behind the flatware in galvanized buckets (from my wedding centerpieces!).

and here is the beautiful mom-to-be (again), complete with her mustache and bow tie!

me, kate, and joy

and i can’t forget the cutest little helper there ever was!  she is already promised to silas as his wife – i’m gonna have some stinkin’ cute grandbabies!

invites  – lollipops

napkins – ikea

green tray – ikea

flowers – costco and trader joe’s

fabric – hawthorne threads and fabric.com

metal rimmed tags – staples

grey striped paper straws – hey yo yo

houndstooth cupcake liners – bake it pretty
