what i wore wednesday {wiww}

happy wednesday!

i just wanted to say a quick THANK YOU!!!!!! to all of you who link up with me every week!  and also, a big HOORAY!!!! to those of you joining for the first time.  it’s nerve racking isn’t it?  something about exposing the real you, on camera, is super intimidating because as bloggers we can hide behind our words, and you know we certainly all hide behind our cameras!  but thank you.  thank you for joining me and encouraging me to get out of my jammies and sweats, to put a little effort into myself, to care about myself enough and to find value in a little self-maintenance.

and here’s a little extra motivation for those of you who are on the fence about whether to join or not:  my readers are really good clickers.  like really good.  we love to support each other and look at everyone’s wiww post and leave sweet comments and encourage one another.  and you know what good clickers equals in blogland?  more traffic!  this linky has connected women who may have never met otherwise and we are building our community to be bigger and stronger – so yay for all of us!

birthday shirt from my mom (from paris – ooh la la!)

cropped jeans – lucky jeans, hand-me-downs from my sister

caterpillar sandals – gap

(i was gardening this week, wearing these sandals, looked down and gasped thinking some varmot had crawled on my foot!)

necklace – crystal b

headband – just.lovely.things

top – local shop

skinnies – forever21

sandals – target

cardi – old navy

necklace – lisa leonard designs (have you seen her new goodies in her shop?!!)

wanna hear a funny story about this shirt?  well here it is anyway ;)… so my husband went to a men’s retreat. on the weekend of my 30th birthday.  yeah, i was stoked.  my bestie, nicole (who lives far far away) sent me money to go buy myself something.  so i got a sitter and we went shopping together – me and my phone so we could “shop” together since, remember, she lives far far away.  i picked out this cute top, then went home to wallow in woe-is-me.  it was a looong weekend with the kids.  i don’t think i ever got a shower in.  but my dear friend lived around the corner and had also lost her husband that weekend to the men’s retreat, so she invited us over to her house for dinner.  so i went.  greasy hair and sweats and slept in t-shirt.  before i left i was talking on the phone to nicole and she was strongly encouraging me to take a shower, take time for myself, throw on my cute new top and feel better on my birthday.  but i didn’t.  when i opened the door to my neighbor’s house… SURPRISE!!!!!!!! sean had come back early, conspired with my sweet neighbor, nicole had set up everything over secret emails (and even sent a box of party decorations!).  even my parents and mother-in-law and sister-in-law came up for it!  i was floored and so totally shocked.  but i was also greasy.  and every.single.time i wear this shirt i think of that day!

i was having a little too much fun playing with the 7,000 balloons we blew up for gracie’s party!

it was raining on saturday.  and sunday.  why?!

we had a preschool end of the year shindig to go to for si ry.  i had to hold back the waterworks since this will be his last year at this school.  my last child at this school that we so dearly love.  boo.

sweatshirt – target, embellished by me.  i like it a little better this week.

grey tops under – forever 21

hat – target

petal pusher on hat – the pleated poppy

jeans – local shop

tennies – from sean (nordstrom rack)

necklace – lisa leonard designs, of course.  because i feel naked without it ;)

sunday.  like i said, it was raining.  but i really could’ve put on some color!?

cardi & dress (new/clearance) – old navy

belt, skinnies, and boots – forever 21

this belt was totally comfy!  i think its because its elastic in the back – sooo much better!  and for $5.50, it was a bargain!

necklace – gift from my mom on our family trip to zihuatanejo, mexico.  before mexico was scary.

ok, cool cats – now it’s your turn to link up.  if you’re not sure how, just click the link below and follow the directions.  be sure to link up to your specific wiww post and not just your blog.  and grab a button, why dontcha?

Love the green shirt story. Talk about memorable clothes! You are so cute with the balloons. I’m with you-originally I didn’t think I liked the hoodie ruffles. This week it made me smile. You hit the nail on the head about clickers. Thank you sooo much for helping so many of us grow our blogs and gain confidence in our styles!

  2. 2

LOVE LOVE LOVE the ON dress over skinnies! You always look so cute with the dress over skinnies, but this one is super adorable. I need to be brave and try this look cause it’s amazing on you :)

  3. 3

Love all your outfits here, especially the ruffle hoodie with sneaks.. You look effortlessly cute everyday!

Coincidentally, I did a “closet” post so I decided to link up today.. I’m new at this but it’s pretty fun!

  4. 4

Yikes! I’m so sorry about all those links of mine! It kept telling me that there was an “internal error” and to choose another image. So I kept trying different ones and retrying until it finally accepted, then I see that it actually posted all of them! Is there any way to remove the extras? Sooooo sorry!

Also- I couldn’t get your button to work on my blog. It just said “pleated” in blue letters. Did anyone else have this problem?

You are just SO adorable. LOVE the birthday story (and the green top AND the top from Paris!!) Thanks for hosting!!

Ok now to me, this has been your coolest most creative post for wiww. So cute how you did different locations and pov’s. You may have been doing this, but I haven’t been on in a while. So cute! Love love!

Thanks for hosting each week! I just love the first outfit’s shoes and your comfy rainy day outfit is so cute! :)

Again, you look dahhh-ling this week! Love the shirt from Paris- ooh la la!

Have you ever mentioned what color that yellow dresser is? Because it just so happens that I am looking for the exact yellow and I am hemming & hawing between 15 diff. paint chips and if you had a color name, wow – that would be awesome.

  11. 11

This is why I do it!

“because as bloggers we can hide behind our words, and you know we certainly all hide behind our cameras! but thank you. thank you for joining me and encouraging me to get out of my jammies and sweats, to put a little effort into myself, to care about myself enough and to find value in a little self-maintenance.”

So true – so easy for us to hide. I have felt more connected to those who read my blog, since starting WIWW because there is a whole lot of me in these posts. Not just the writer me, or the mom me or the blogger me. Just me, being me.

    Thanks sweet Lindsey!

I’m new here and love the idea of WIWW. You look so cute in your outfits!

  13. 13

Thanks so much for hosting this every week Lindsey! I always enjoy participating when I actually remember to take pictures of myself :-). LOVE your sweet gray top. That’s my fav from this week.- Thanks for this motivation to dive into our closets with creativity! – Also, as an aside, do you use WP.org? I’m making the big switch this week (well, trying to) and would love to chat with someone who has done it themselves. Hope your Wednesday is a beautiful one!

  14. 14

P.S. Blogger is frozen in edit at the moment, and I had pre-blogged this post and forgot to link back to the party when I did. Never fear! As soon as it allows me back into edit, I’ll have your link up!

  15. 15

Hey, Lindsay, you are so cute & skinny, anything looks good on you! I’m linking up some of my thrifty finds today. It’s been awhile since I participated, but I love to do this.

  16. 16

Hard to pick a fave, but the ruffle cardy is pretty fabulous!

Thanks for josting, it is only my 3rd week dooing WIWW, but iwas was excited yesterday!!

That is cute that you thought something was crawling on you, when it actually was your sandal

  19. 19

I have to agree…besides the fabulous inspiration thats available here every week, the (other) best part is that we’re able to connect with so many people we may have otherwise never “met.” I love that about WIWW.
You’re adorable. Love the balloons. Im still patiently waiting for the post about the artist party:)
    xo

  20. 20

I love your outfits + your story of your top. I too have clothes that I can remember that day I bought them or an event that happened while I was wearing it. :)

  21. 21

You totally reminded me of the movie UP! with that balloon pic! Thanks for hosting!

  22. 22

Thanks for this fun weekly post, Lindsey!

I also had trouble putting the button on my blog (no picture showed up when I put it on), so I’m wondering if I did something wrong…

  23. 23

Hi Lindsey. Happy Belated Birthday. You are the same age as my oldest daughter Gennifer. She does your WIWW, and has great style!!! You are letting your hair grow a little. I like it. Cute story!

  24. 24

Wow, 116 link ups by the time I got to mine!!! Love this linky party Lindsay, so glad you help so many people, myself included, break out of their shell. And I am so totally in love with that first outfit! Beautiful!

  25. 25

you always look so cute…and I especially love these because you’re smiling so big!! you look happy from the inside out!

  26. 26

I LOVE these posts! It’s definitely encouraging to get out of my pj’s and take a shower. Today, there were no errands, appointments or playdates on the agenda, but I got up, showered and put on something cute to take my son to the park and work around the house. And I feel SO much better and I know i’m going to be 10 times more productive since I’m not wearing my grungy clothes. Thanks for the encouragement!

  27. 27

I loved the story of the birthday shirt! I had a similar thing happen for my 25th (geez, that was almost 10 years ago) birthday where I was sick with a cold and my boyfriend took me out to dinner. I didn’t feel like getting dressed up, didn’t really even want to go, and showed up to a surprise party looking like something that cat dragged in! LOL! I swear, one of these days I’m gonna link up to WIWW! :)

  28. 28

you look lovely. Especially the one where you are sat on your sofa.

Can I ask where your cushions are from please?!? and the colour of the wall although probably cant buy the paint in the UK.

    Thanks! M x

This is such a great motivator to get up and get dressed!
    Thank you!

  38. 38

I wanted to thank you for hosting WIWW. I have been following your blog now for almost a year. I have finally ventured into the blog world myself and couldn’t be happier with my decision. I love your idea of WIWW because it gives us all an opportunity to take a minute to think about our own self care.
You can tell by the growing number of participants the effect on others your idea has. Thank you so very much my dear!

    P.S. You are so beautiful!

  39. 39

Love all your fun angles this week. I must get a tripod. But I think a good camera should come first.
