vintage picnic baby shower

a couple weeks ago i had the pleasure of helping out with a baby shower for a dear friend of mine.  she’s having her 3rd baby and we just wanted to do something beautiful for her, not necessarily baby-centered.

the setting was amazing, at my friend julie’s house, set out in the country with hills and fields surrounding us.

joy, my partner in crime, came up with the theme of vintage picnic.  pinterest was a huge help for inspiration!

my original vision was to have only picnic blankets spread out on the lawn, then i realized some women (pregnant women in particular) may not want to sit on the grass, so we added this shaded table.

mismatched bistro chairs were pulled from my front porch and the table was layered in vintage linens.

i loved the mix of my linens with joy’s – so fun!  the forks were wrapped in cloth napkins tied with fabric scraps from my stash.  i pulled the books and the lantern from my living room.  random jars were filled with flowers cut from all of our yards.  julie’s 9 year old daughter did all the flower arranging for us – so cute!

joy brought these beautiful eyelet lanterns to hang from the tent to make it cozier.  i love the little ribbons hanging from the bottom.

the drink station was a favorite spot of mine.  i love that with this theme we were able to make a mishmash of drink containers all work well together.  tea, water and lemonade were served.

we shopped julie’s house and found this table and bench and they worked perfectly!

these soda crates were great for holding all the mason jar drinking glasses.  each glass was wrapped with a strip of scrap fabric and a name tag.

the food table was so pretty and the food was so yummy!  my favorite part: i didn’t help with the food at all!  a wooden crate held the plates and an old stool my grandfather made added some height to the table.

my vintage plate collection wasn’t quite large enough to serve everyone so we added plain white plates, too.

i seriously thought about sneaking off with that tray of mozzarella and tomatoes!

the desert table was another fun mishmash of collected items: cake plates, a vintage picnic basket, stools and plates.  another friend made apricot upside down cakes and joy made cupcakes.

we used one of my boutique display racks to hold cards for the guests to write wishes and prayers for the family and their new baby.

on the lawn we spread chenille and matelasse coverlets and put luggage, wooden boxes, and metal trays to use as tables for the guest’s drinks.  i love the lemon curd jars used for vases.

each blanket also had a couple pillows thrown on for a little extra comfort.

the expectant mama and joy

the best part of this shower?  besides that i didn’t have to cook a single thing?  it was entirely free!  between the 3 of us, we were able to pull things from our house that worked well as the decor.  my car was packed floor to ceiling for this shower!
