finding beauty in the chaos

we’re living in a little bit of crazy here this week.

i am putting any free time i have into my blog sugar presentation, and not into my house.

i can’t say my house really looks much different this week than any other, but a clean house sure would make things feel more peaceful right about now!

a little view on how our homeschool life and my work life flow all over each other.

now this isn’t exactly what i envision for a welcoming entry, but it sure does make for a happy boy.

oh i so wish that this were a very rare sight.  in fact, bare counters are really the rare sight.  this is totally my life.

but look!  amidst the clutter and piled dishes and ant spray is color!  pretty pretty color – on dishes and aprons and canvas!

and now covering the dirt on my arm rest is the granny square quilt i “borrowed” from my mom’s house.

and spread far and wide across my cutting table are bloom belts galore.  well, actually there are only 4 left now.

and my favorite – fabric waiting to be made into something practically perfect in almost every way ;)

Some days it feels like I clean the kitchen only so I can dirty it again.

  2. 2

Thank you for posting this! Makes me feel more human:)

Your “dirty” house looks gorgeous in these pictures!

Thanks for posting this! I am 39 weeks pregnant, and just had my 2 year old’s birthday party on Sunday. I SO badly want my house to be perfectly spic and span for when I go into labor… but it’s just not practical. It’s never spic and span so why would I expect it to “stay” that way? I also hate the false notion that everyone who owns a blog has a perfect house all of the time just because they only post photos of it when it IS perfect…. So, it’s a good reminder that it’s normal. (If you get a second, you should check out my daughter’s party photos… I think you’d be proud. but trust me, the mess is unreal!)

Thank you for posting this! I’m getting ready for my first craft show with 2 little boys running around in this little house. I had about 12 people/kids running around here this weeking while I was painting furniture….chaos! Fun chaos, but indeed chaos! My house (the mess) looks just about like that. I feel better now that I’m not the only one!

Nothing wrong with a little chaos ~ sometimes the best creativity flows from letting go of “order”. :)
    Have a great day!

Cant wait to hear you speak at Blog Sugar :)

I know things get crazy at home when we are busy creating. Creating chaos is what I call it…and it’s beautiful.

  9. 9

looks like normal :) i’ve been looking for a granny square blanket…looks adorable on your couch!

There is a huge difference in a house & a home. Friend, yours looks like a home. A home where your family interacts, spends qulity time & makes memories. Nothing wrong with that :)

I love the you showed us the reality of your most days house! I love the airy bright look of your home and your overall style! It is very much in line with my aesthetic too. So is the “clutter”! I have a constant battle with myself over the counters and the clutter. I am a stacker. I make “neat” piles to make myself feel better. But to know that someone with you great taste is just like me, it really honestly let me take a breath and chill out a little. You rock, thank you for this post!!!

Also, I have a the same blanket, that my grandma made and I am going to bring it out today and drape it over the back of my couch just cause I saw this post!

  13. 13

Looks like home to me! I love that you keep it real, and I can’t wait to see what you make with that gorgeous fabric. Have a great day!

  14. 14

OMG, I totally LOOOVEEEE those three fabrics at the end. LOVE!!!

  15. 15

I LOVE YOU! ;) It is so nice to see someone else’s house look like mine. I have a two year old who LOVES to play in the middle of the kitchen floor. And countertops? Do we have those? Thanks for keeping it real.

  16. 16

Oh I am so glad I’m not the only one who’s house ends up looking like this during the week! Love LOVE your dishes!! Where did you get the colorful bowls?!

  17. 21

I like posts like this. Shows how human we all REALLY are! Especially someone that works at home.

  18. 22

Ahhh, yes… woman vs. clutter. I am in the last two weeks of a school term, so when the decision is between homework and EVERYTHING else, homework wins!

Btw, where’d you get those amazingly cute bowls??? I love the colors!

  19. 23

I’m loving that fabric. And don’t worry about the mess! I’m pretty sure a lot of peoples’ houses look like that most of the time. They just don’t want to admit it! My mom used to always make jokes about it growing up so I gave her a sign that says, “Sorry about the mess, but we live here” to hang in her entry way. I’m thinking about getting one for myself. ;)

  20. 24

What an awesome post! I always think – how can everyone else keep up and I can’t. Feeling pretty good about myself right now. :-) And – love the bowls!

  21. 25

real life is so much better than a post about rainbows & unicorns & Skittles, believe me ;) you’ll do great at blogsugar, friend!!

  22. 26

I fight the messy kitchen counter daily. It seems to be the catchall for papers, toy parts, pencils, broken sunglasses (my daughter’s) and more. But your house is beautiful and you are living a full life, so don’t sweat it. You will get to it when you have time. Also, the belts are fantastic!

  23. 27

this really is my reality! I try to keep things clean but kids make it hard!

  24. 28

This was my house today! Thanks for posting this. It’s nice to know others are in the same boat as me. Some days my house is tidy….and others it isn’t! :)

  25. 29

You had me at “ant spray”.

    so.my.life.

Thanks for the reminder to see the life lived!

  26. 30

girl, embrace the chaos. do what you love. spend precious time with your kids. embrace every minute. cherish every ounce of beauty. the house stuff can wait.

  27. 31

It’s nice to see your mess! I don’t have children, but my house still gets really messy….don’t know why….ha…..Anyway, it’s nice to see you’re human :)Thank you for sharing!

    Stephanie says:

Great post! Any chance you know the name or source of the turquoise and white fabric in the middle of the last picture? I’m looking for some fabric to recover and chair, and that print/color combo would be perfect. Thanks in advance!
