what i wore wednesday

hey friends!  so… last week i was so good about taking pics every single day.

but this week… not so much.  relaxing at my parents’ for the long weekend proved to be not so good for my efforts at getting dressed every day.  in fact, most days i didn’t even get out of my jammies!  thankfully, for both of us, i don’t have to show you picture after picture of me in my pj’s because i have a wonderful guest blogger to share her wardrobe with you!

meet beth giles of salvage life!

she has a vintage studio in long beach, ca and an online shop here.  i love how she matches vintage pieces in with her modern wardrobe, and i know you will, too!

Hi Everyone!  I’m Beth from Salvage Life and I’m excited to be a guest here on the pleated poppy for wiww! I thought it would be fun to share how I try to incorporate vintage into all of my outfits.
I began including vintage in my outfits only after I started selling it, in fact, before I had my shop, I hardly wore any vintage at all.  I have found over the years though, that the right vintage piece can give your outfit a truly one of a kind look!
When you first start, try incorporating one or two items.  Here is a simple outfit I wore to run errands. White t-shirt (thrifted) + skinnies (anthro) + vintage boots and vintage bag (I borrowed this from my shop, there’s got to be some perks, right?)
I made both of the necklaces, one from my Grandmother’s watch and the other from some broken jewelry bits. I love layering necklaces over a t-shirt, it’s an easy way to dress things up!

Ok, for the second outfit, I’m wearing a bit more vintage for a work day at the shop.  Southwest inspired pieces are really in this season, so this vintage sweater is going to get worn a lot! Thrifted top, vintage jeans (took me years to find a pair that worked for me).
The gladiator sandals are from nordstrom rack.  The turquoise necklace was my Grandmother’s and the other two are from my shop.  Your mom’s or grandma’s closet is a great place to start for vintage, often times they’ve had things buried for years and are happy to share!
This outfit was for a wedding, an opportunity to wear some serious vintage!  You can get away with a little more for a party or festive event.  Vintage dress from my shop (I was going to borrow, but this one is for keeps!), vintage belt, vintage necklace, tights by free people,  shoes are from the flea market and sweater from anthro.
So, that was fun right?  When shopping for vintage, try to buy things that are relevant to what’s in style and don’t be afraid to invest in a great vintage dress or bag.  Vintage retains it’s value and is often made of higher quality materials than things you can find at the same price new.  I hope you will try incorporating some vintage into your wardrobe!
Big thanks to Lindsey and all you readers!
thanks so much beth!

I have just signed up to be an independent consultant for a company called Paparazzi Accessories. Everything is $5 and includes fun, trendy and stylish necklaces, bracelets, earrings, headbands, rings and hairclips. Starting this has helped me step out of my sweats everyday and dress up wearing a piece that I can show other people. Please check out my facebook page with pictures and let em know what you think, you can find it by typing in Paparazzi Accessories by Marissa Little. It’s been a hit so far, and I’ve sold out in 30 minutes in the shows that I’ve done! Who doesn’t like affordable jewelry! Love to follow your blog and see what everyone is wearing each week!
