desk update

as i get busier and busier, my work space gets more and more neglected.

piles go on top of piles, things get buried and forgotten.

so i set aside some time last week to clean up and clear out and make my space pretty again.

in an attempt to be organized, i tried using these clipboards for different important areas of my life: school, work, blogging and home.

after a year or so of them being there, i only used them a couple times, if at all.  they were slowly collecting random prints and quotes instead of lists of things to get done.

so they had to go.

and ps – there is usually quite a large pile in the corner, but i just gave it all to my bookkeeper to input for me.  yay for bookkeepers!

i have been accidentally (as in, not intentionally) collecting a number of “pretty things” that i want to have in my space, but my wall space is just so limited by my desk.  i would love to frame every print i have been given and have bought and have just the perfect place for each pretty trinket, but it just isn’t possible, so i decided to just put them all together in one big frame!

this is the piece that finally kicked me in gear to get this project done.  i felt i was doing some terrible injustice just letting this beautiful piece andrea made sit on a pile on my desk.

i put up a tiny banner my mom made me when i first started my business.

i already had the hot pink spray-painted frame form the last queen bee market booth, and some lovely cream trim, and the clothespins to pull it all together.

we have a handful of instagram pics that my neighbor has taken and printed off for us.  also up there is a print from krystina, a quote from april, a tiny hoop from the domestic nest, teeny pics of our family lisa took of us years ago, and a print from my current fave/obsession.

next row down is a peacock feather from a friend’s wedding invite, a print from the queen bees, a print from jeanne winters, the prettiest hoop ever from andrea, more instagram pics and a print from erin leigh.

tucked in the corner is a fun pic of sean and i from last summer, and the kids when they were bitty.

this little goodwill find has been a life saver.  never did i think i would use one of these, but it has lessened my piles.  now i know where each of my important folders or notebooks or papers are, and then i can put it right back when i’m done.  that notebook in the front gets used more than anything else on my desk, besides my computer!

i always use pretty jars to hold my pens, but my last jar was just the wrong shape, yet i fought the falling out pens for over a year.  why?! this pretty jar was the perfect solution.  i also added a jar from emily to hold my fabric pens and chopstick, and my pretty little pin cushion sits next to it.

i couldn’t quite let go of the clip boards, but i cut it down to 2 instead of 4.  one of them is already getting a lot of use and the other one, not so much.

and here’s the whole space!

my happy jar of buttons on the window sill and a new home for my sewing machine (to the right).

notice my giant monitor behind my laptop?  that’s where i watch all my shows while i’m editing pics, answering emails, and blogging.

so much happier now!

I’m looking at the two corkboards on my desk (at work) and thinking that I will have to spruce them up. Yours put my to shame!

Great space! I love how I’m not the only one who needs ome company (tv) whole working! It can get quite lonely :)

I love what you’ve done with your pretty things! My office is in need of a little tlc too, and I’m still contemplating what exactly I need to do to spruce it up. Something like that would be perfect. You’ve motivated me. Again!

I’ve wondered about those file things for a lil while now. It might be the solution to the “where do I put THIS” file instead of a PILE! I think your office looks inspiring and do-able. Thanks for sharing.

This is a lovely creative space. I am inspired now for our extra room :) Does Andrea has an Etsy shop. I am in love with the hoop with a Bible verse? I love your blog and it’s positive message and creative family vibe. Thank you for the inspirations each day!

Awesome! I sometimes think desk spaces are a bit of a journey ~ figuring out what works and what pleases us creative types visually. You’ve clearly hit all the right notes. :)

What great space. I love the scaled down clipboard idea. I might need to borrow it for my craft room. I also love the frame with all the things that make you smile.

Just had to comment on the “Probe” card letters! That was one of my favorite games growing up. Such a sweet banner idea!

Honestly, I don’t think you have any idea how inspiring this post has been for me. I want to just work out my own space to be as beautiful, as inspirational, as inviting!!!! A nice environment certainly does make for better work. Great job and creative idea on the frame!!!!

Love the frame. I made one like this for my youngests bedroom with wire coming across and then fabric on the clothespins. I am loving the lace ribbon that you used!!
Everything looks so bright and cheery!! xo Ashlyn

Love your desk space, so fun and inspiring, what great light you have in there too with those windows!

Question for you…are you happy with your sewing machine? Is it the Singer Curvy? I’m on the hunt for a new one. Does the drop and sew bobbin work well. I have the Singer Esteem II (their very basic machine) and the bobbin jams often. Figured I’d ask an expert. :-) Thanks!

    oh my.
i have a craft room/office in my loft.
i don’t spend a TON of time in there, but lately i have been getting my craft on.
and what used to be a primarily scrapbooking space, needs to be revamped.
after reading this, i am DYING to get in there and reorganize, sort, and cute it up.
including one of those adorable rainbow chains.
i do have a TON of leftover fun paper after all!

Your workspace looks great! You have inspired me to clear off/out my craft space tonight, and make it more of a priority.

  22. 23

I love that it looks like artsy space now instead of a business space. :) Beautiful!

  23. 24

I love seeing other people’s creative spaces. Now if I would just take the time to organize mine. : )

  24. 25

I’ts so happy there in your little corner of the world!

  25. 26

Oh yes, a happy space for sure! It’s amazing how much better a person feels with a clean workspace. Mine goes way too long between cleanings.

  26. 27

I am totally stealing that frame idea. I have had this very ornate super beautiful vintage frame, that I don’t know what to put in. I think I will not put any picture/mirror/corkboard in, but instead lots of little cute things that I save!

    Thanks for the idea!!!

  28. 29

What a great transformation! Love it!

  29. 30

    Love it!

Question…How did you get your trim to stay on the frame? Staple gun?

  30. 31

your work space is SO cute. i’ve been working on mine for 6 months now and it has turned into more of a 2nd closet instead of a workspace! one of these days…

p.s. i LOVE that hoop but your link 404’d. =(

    Lindsey,
You have been so kind and sweet with sharing the hoop I created for you. It was so special for me to get to do that and I love seeing it in its new space. It’s kinda like I get to hang out and sew with you!

    XOXO

what a happy desk space. I love the inspiration board.

  34. 36

Thank you for the inspiration to spruce up my office. On a budget of $0, a small office with big furniture and much less creativity than you have, I was able to give my space the face lift that it needed. Today I’m covering clipboards with my favorite scrapbooking paper as a finishing touch. Maybe now I’ll feel like spending more time studying in my little space!

Your space is so inspirational! Thanks for sharing! Makes me think about how I really need to clean up mine.
