photo shelves update

i had a project staring me in the face for quite some time and i kept ignoring it.

my wall o’pictures needed some serious updating.

above is the before picture, taken this christmas.  the most recent picture i have of silas was when he was 6 months old.  he’s 4 1/2 now!

also, all the pictures were in black and white or sepia, and i was ready to add more color, especially since all the frames and mats were already all black and white.

i still had to keep the 6 month old pic of silas.  its just too darn cute.

but so is the one of him being adored by sean, taken by our friends.  but even our “new” pictures are kinda old – they were taken 10 months ago.  the kids already seem so much older now.  crazy.

we got some great family shots, ones of the kids, and even a few of sean and i – so fun!

i still kept the turquoise glass bottles because of the color they add without taking away too much from the pictures themselves.

my goal is to continue adding more recent pictures every 6 months or so, still keeping some of the oldies but goodies though.  i do love to keep the old pictures behind the new ones so when i go to change out the pictures i see all the old ones and go down memory lane a bit.  gracie helped me with this project so it was really fun for her to see all the old baby pics and guess who was who.

so there’s one project, checked off the (invisible, yet nagging) list!  aren’t you so proud of me? ;)

Yes I actually am. Our family photo on my wall doesn’t include our almost 3 year old because we haven’t had another taken since her and the most recent of her is when she was 1. I look at that wall every day and think “Get to it Jessie”. One day :)

It looks great! I love the mixture of old and new because you can see the personalities emerging through the years. Now, want to come add mine? We have ZERO family pictures up around the house. Mainly because they’re still packed in boxes in the garage and mainly because I painted the walls and don’t want holes all over them. The picture shelf is a GREAT solution. Thanks for inspiration once again.

This is SUCH wonderful inspiration! I’ve been looking for a great way to display some photos in my little apartment and I’m thinking that this might be just the thing! Thanks for sharing, and whoo-hoo on a job well done!

I was wondering where you got the shelves and how are they attached to the wall? I just love your idea of displaying pictures! Thanks!

Thank you for this post. I just bought 2 45inch white picture ledges from IKEA and want to do this but didn’t know how to arrange the frames. Thanks for the photo inspiration that I can use in my own home. Also, I have been reading your blog for a few months and just realized you live in SLO. My husband and I went to school there. LOVE and miss that town so much! I love your blog, too!

Please PLEASE please share where you found those shelves?! I have been looking for the very same ones myself.

Very nice! We have similar shelves but I have not hung them in our new house yet. Mainly because all the pictures of my almost three year old are infant photos. Shameful. I have “print new pictures” on my to do list for sure.

So lovely! I came across your blog a few months back and LOVED your picture shelves and was so excited that you posted them again! Can I ask you where you got your shelves? Are they ikea? What size are they? How do you keep your frames from slipping? Thanks so much!
