what i wore wednesday {pinspiration}

hey friends!  welcome to what i wore wednesday, or wiww.  this is a weekly linky party for those of us who want to get out of the yoga pants rut and feel a little better about ourselves by putting in a few extra minutes to get dressed in our morning routine.

my morning routine has consisted of searching my pinterest wiww board.  its getting pathetic.  i walk in my closet and stare.  then i walk to my computer and stare at outfits i’ve pinned.  i choose one that i think i have almost everything for, and i give it a shot.  as i experienced this week, sometimes its a hit, and other times it’s definitely a miss.  but i’m going to be real with you here and show you an outfit that for me was a real miss!

this was the first outfit i tried.  cute, right?  simple? yes.  i had the racerback black tank, the cream v neck cardigan, and a brown belt.

when i got dressed in the morning, the outfit just didn’t feel right.  i didn’t have the toms, although sean almost bought them for me for my birthday, but got me my beloved converse instead.  i tried another pair of cream tennies and they just didn’t make sense with the outfit, so i went with the black flats, which i now see were very wrong.  and the jeans were a little baggy looking with the fitted shirt.  i had to add the scarf because it was all so blah!

now this outfit was a little easier to do!

my cuffed jeans are a really light denim and i like the dark denim better, so i just cuffed my skinnies.  besides, my cuffed jeans are too tight on the belly so i have to do the early pregnancy trick of looping a hair elastic through the button hole.  and i’m not pregnant.

and i don’t have red flats, but i thought the yellow flats did the same job.  this was a super easy and comfy outfit!

ok, now i know i just said i wasn’t pregnant, and this photo says otherwise, but i swear i’m not!  i’m just going to blame it on 3 things: 1)  the lighting hits in a funny place, 2) i don’t think the choice to wear the bloom belt that high was a good one, and 3) i forgot to suck it in for the picture.

there’s no pinterest pic for this outfit, but i did get some of the idea from a girl i saw in walmart.  “that explains it”, you’re saying to your self now ;)  this young 20’s girl had on the cutest outfit, so cute i almost wanted to tell her, but i had already been dissecting her outfit for so long i didn’t want to come off as creepier.  she had on a short strapless dress with a fitted t under, leggings and boots, with a belt and it was so cute.

i just got this dress, which can also convert into a skirt, for our trip to india since i didn’t have any long skirts.  i am not comfortable with strapless tops, even with a cardigan over, since things tend to fall down on me.  not sure why, i’ll blame the kids ;)

so i layered the dress/skirt over a fitted tee i got at forever 21, with boots and a bloom belt (that reminds me – i need to make more!).  i liked the outfit without the belt, too, but the belt definitely added a lot to it.

did you try anything new this week?  i’d love to see, just follow a few rules!

1. link to your specific blog post, not your blog’s main page. ex: http://thepleatedpoppy.com/2011/09/what-i-wore-wednesday-fall-inspiration/ not http://thepleatedpoppy.com/blog/.
2. please only link outfit related posts. your craft project may be adorable, or that may be a great giveaway, but this linky is for outfit related posts only – thank you!

Momma Go Round

  1. 1

You are so funny – you don’t look even a bit pregnant! But I LOVE your bloom belt with that stapless dress and cardi!!

  2. 2

Pinterest is over taking my life too! I have been disappointed when a look I tried just doesn’t feel right. It happened tonight actually! I love the dress and I don’t think you looked preggo! Have a great week!

  3. 3

haha, I’m dying of laughter over the last outfit description. haha- Walmart “that explains it” tee hee- I can’t stop laughing! The first outfit was fine, other than the baggie jeans. You look super cute otherwise. I really love the last outfit, though I agree- the bloom belt would be better lower. I struggle with where to wear my belts with outfits/dresses like this. It’s all about strategic placement to hide (not accentuate) my eh, hem- post baby middle (note: my ‘baby’ is 3yrs old now)

  4. 4

You are so beautiful! ‘Love the outfits. -Marci

  5. 5

Definitely dig the striped look with the yellow shoes. Pulling – it -off. The dress look is also almost good, but somehow the belt just doesn’t quite do the rest of the outfit justice. Maybe try it with a few different belts? Cause otherwise I think it could work for you. :)

This is my second week of WIWW. And I have to admit that I am totally loving it. At least I have an excuse to wear something stylish looking one day out of the week :) Otherwise I’m all jeans and long sleeved tshirts…

  6. 6

YOU were my outfit inspiration! I talked about it in my WIWW post. Hey, sometimes we try and fail with outfits, but at least you tried.

  7. 7

I totally wore a skirt as a dress this passed week…you will have to check me out…:)

  8. 8

Seriously loving the long hair. Do you have to blow dry it straight or does it just happen? Here’s a link to my continued Family Rules Project, as you were one of the inspirations. Here’s Part 2 of 3 for those interested:

  9. 9

Love the outfits as usual. The dress is a winner, It looks good on you and I didn’t think you look pregnant. The bloom belt makes the outfit.

Lindsey, the dress looks AMAZING on you! I absolutely love that outfit. I might have to do a copycat. :)

  17. 17

Love the second outfit especially – so adorable! It is fun to use Pinterest to inspire outfits. I actually did that for the first time in my post today! :)

  18. 18

Love the second outfit! I always think, “Of course these things look great off someone, but what would they really look like on?” You’re adorable as always!

  19. 19

I think all your outfits all cute! I have the pinspiration problem, sometimes it’s not what you had in your mind. I think I’ll see what I can try again this week from pinterest.

  20. 20

I do the exact same thing when getting dressed now, but I have pinterest on my ipod so i pull it up and stand in my closet with it deciding what to wear. Funny thing is I used the word pinspiration in my post today too. WIWW really is making me feel better about myself, thank you for that! And I’ve pinned some of your outfits to recreate!

  21. 21

the striped tee outfit is perfect on you! and I love what you did with the maxi!

  22. 22

Seriously loving the striped tee outfit on you! Gorgeous!!!

  23. 23

I love the striped tee and also the idea of creating outfits on Pintrest….I haven’t thought of that.

  24. 24

I love the way you styled the outfits found on Pinterest!!!
I love your striped tee outfit!!! So simple but ever-so pretty!!

  25. 25

I really like the first outfit! Maybe that’s why I haven’t had balls enough to show my outfits yet?? Haha. :) It maybe would have been better with those yellow flats you had on in the next outfit, though. Make it a little more fun anyway!

  26. 26

    1) Just found your blog through a link (Lili & Mae) and have spent the last half hour pouring through your archives! So excited to be your newest follower :-)
    2) I love the striped shirt outfit here…perfect for a Wednesday in my opinion!
    3) Now I’m going to go visit a few of the other great bloggers who contributed to this link-up!

    XO – Marion

  27. 27

What is the deal with the sewing link? I don’t see anything wearable there. Aren’t we supposed to be all about the outfits we wore and not promoting our own contests? Bad form in my opinion.

  28. 28

Your outfits area ll so cute!

  29. 29

I seriously do the same thing with trying to figure out an outfit – stare at the clothes in my closet for a good 10 minutes, then head over to my computer for the next 10, until I’m inspired by Pinterest, ha! I love the striped sweater with jeans! I did a similar outfit this week too!

    I’m all linked up!

  30. 30

I don’t think the 1st outfit was a miss at all! Great inspirations and copies. I love browsing thru WIWW!!! Thanks for always hosting.

  31. 31

Hah! Hah! I’m so glad I’m not the only one that does this on Pinterest :-) Thanks so much for the party each week. I am terrible at actually EVER taking a photo of myself and now I’m losing the phobia.

  32. 32

So – the first outfit you had on was really cute too! You’re too hard on yourself.

I am now in hot pursuit of those white lace toms!

  33. 33

your hair is getting SO long!!

  34. 34

I love the simplicity and chicness of your second look with the stripes, cropped pants, and yellow flats! The silhouette is beautiful on you and it fits you so well.

  35. 35

You have the best style! I adore that dress. Thanks for hosting the linky.

  36. 36

Wow I LOVE this idea– I need to actually use more of the inspirations I pin! I absolutely adore the second outfit, so pretty on you!

  37. 37

You look amazing in teal… Love the bloom belt and your teal cardi together… And no you do not look pregnant at all. Wish I was as petite as you.

  38. 38

I so admire your willingness to take risks! I loved every outfit except the Walmart-inspired one, and that was not you, dear, that was just all those things you mentioned. LOVE WIWW and I appreciate that you keep it going.

Every last one of those outfits is adorable!
