oh snap!

i’m home from a few days away in utah at the SNAP conference – so glad to be home, but sad to leave good friends.

so how was the conference you ask?  2 words: uh mazing.

especially for a first year conference.  i was so impressed before the conference at the list of the team members – almost all the top crafty bloggers!

the first night jess and maggie picked me up from the airport and we stayed up late, eating mcdonald’s and cheesecake.  ok, maybe i was the only one eating, whatever.  ;)

do you see how full the car was?  between the 3 of us, we had 9 suitcases!

the next morning we drove to thanksgiving point, the location for the conference.  what an amazing venue!  other than it being a little too far from the airport to make travel easy, it was the perfect location!  everything was within walking distance and was clean and beautiful.  and tulips were everywhere!

since a handful of us were there for the conference and the queen bee market, we all had a ton of products – we stayed up into the wee hours every night, sometimes pricing products, sometimes watching hilarious youtube videos, sometimes (ok always) eating too much candy.

i had great roommates: meg, jeannett, and maggie.  and jess came for visits every night, too!  the late nights in the room made for an extra fun weekend!

and the early mornings made for an extra long weekend!  staying up past 1 then getting up for an early breakfast is tough!  i was honored to be invited with a group of other sew-ers (sewists?) to a breakfast with the simplicity creative group.

i also was honored to be on a panel to speak!  our topic was “happy chaos:  turning your passion into a business”.  i was so glad to speak on a panel rather than all alone like at blog sugar – way more casual!

seeing the packed room gave me serious butterflies, but as soon as we got started they went away.  the session was really fun for me, and i learned so much from my panel mates, too!

heather of just love.ly things was our moderator, and i spoke with ashley of lil blue boo, jess of allora handmade, and liz of dear lizzy – how did i get so lucky?!

between sessions i ran down to the beautiful show barn to start setting up for the queen bee market later that evening.  see my suitcases?  all my product (and very little clothes) traveled in them.  thankfully, i was able to fit just about everything on the table – a miracle!

i was pretty wiped out after setting up (and getting up too early) so i opted for a cozy floor seat during maggie’s session on a thriving creative business (along with becki of whippy cake, susan petersen of freshly picked, and gina luker of the shabby creek cottage).

one of my favorite parts about going to conferences is getting to connect with my crafty girlfriends, but we’re usually in the minority.  but at snap, we were the conference!  everyone there was a crafty girl in some way or another and it was so nice to be with a huge group of women who get you.  so fun!

the first night of the queen bee market was insane!  not only did the entire group of conference attendees shop that night, but the line of locals wrapped around the building outside!  it was so packed in there!

on the last night i was pretty much running on fumes.  after cleaning up my booth, packing it all away, i just had to sit and rest for a bit.

i learned so much in such a short amount of time!

the weekend and conference were so well put together and i will definitely want to go next year!

on my flights home i did a lot of processing about my business – its always good to get a little kick in the seat of your pants to get you back on track!  i re-read craft, inc. and highlighted parts i need to focus on.

and since i was on a roll, i skimmed through the handmade marketplace again, too!

ah, home sweet home!  i was so blessed not only to have a weekend away (technically for business but oh so fun) but to be greeted by my 3 littles at the airport.  i call them little, but after not seeing them for a few days, they looked huge!

anyhow, so glad to be home with the family – and now its time to decompress and re-evaluate all i learned!

It was so fun to meet you in person!! I admire you even more now than I did before! :) you inspire me to get back to what I love doing (sewing!) and try to find the balance between it all – sewing/crafting, blogging, family, etc. Not quite sure how you do it, but I’m aiming myself in that direction!! The conference (what I’ve seen in pictures) looked AWESOME and I wish I had the guts to attend one… Maybe next time if I get my butt in gear!! :)

SO so neat to meet you (at the closing dinner) wish I could have talked to you a bit longer. Oh well we will leave that for next year. :O) I have been reading your blog since 2009. Love all you products. Even had to buy a couple at the Queen Bee Market. Yeah! So every time I pull out my checkbook I will think of you. :O)

  17. 17

The conference looked wonderful – at least according to instagram! I am really intrigued by the books that you read on the plane. Guess I need to stalk Amazon now!!

LOVED meeting you in real life!!! I only wish I would’ve had more time to chat with you. I loved our panel and all your insight. You are such an inspiration. Keep in touch! xo

  19. 19

What a great re-cap! Sadly, I missed your panel, but glad we got to chat briefly;) Why don’t you give a little summary of what you talked about….Connecting with other bloggers was really the best part, but lots of things to think about as well…

  20. 20

It was SO nice meeting you in person! That panel sounds fantastic I may have to pull out my copy of craft inc too it’s been too long.

  21. 21

This sounds amazing! I wish I could go to more conferences, but since I live in France, the tickets would be expensive! haha Looks like a great time though, thanks for sharing!

Linds – Thank you so very much for putting so much time and effort into your trip. It seriously was a blessing to have you girls and I am so very grateful you came. I hope that you will be back next year, as it just wouldn’t be the same without you!
