spring mantel and restyled shelves

having a cover over our tv gives me so many more options for decorating now!

i wanted to do something simple, yet springy, so i made a couple little banners.

a few snips from the garden, some turquoise mason jars, and some of my milk glass prettied up the sides a little.

and a lovely print from the wheatfield in a vintage frame makes everything happier!

for the doily banner, paper doilies were simply folded in half over a length of yarn, then stapled from the back at the bottom.

you know i love using up my scraps, and this scrappy banner did just that!  just scraps of fabric folded in half and ran through my machine, leaving extra thread on the ends for tying.

now onto the shelves restyling!

i always start iwth clearing off and wiping down the shelves.

and piling everything to survey what i have, what i want to use, and what i’m ready to put away for a bit.

i was trying to simplify my shelves a bit.  i did pair down a bit, but i have a hard time taking things down!

i love that i was able to include gracie’s horse sculpture, and my favorite print by the wheatfield – aren’t the colors so pretty?

a collection of silver cups from my sister sit atop a random but pretty pile of books

and i added lily’s painting of madonna and child up there too!  i love blending the kids’ art in with everything else!

so do you restyle your shelves often?  do you have a plan when you do it, or does it just work itself out?

The TV cover is SUCH a great idea. I love your decorating style. I’m in the middle of decorating myself and having such a hard time with the living room.

Love the results!!! And I like where you put the “Be Kind” poster, I know it’s been all around the house since you got it, but I think it’s found it’s permanent home now! Love the doily pennant.

I hardly EVER restyle my shelves. They just get pushed too far down the to-do list!

So impressed you find the time for yours!

    Which look FABULOUS.

I love the mix of textures and the pops of bright, happy color!

(The Madonna, the horse sculpture, and the Be Kind print are all my faves).

I LOVE the idea of hiding your tv. I feel like mine is going to be my new apartment’s centerpiece, and I’m SO not a fan. This is awesome..

I do the same thing every month or so… take it all down, wipe it all down, and restyle it all. Question, what colour is the brown behind the shelfs? We have a similar built in with beadboard, and I’ve been thinking about painting the backs for a while. Love your style!

I LOVE this idea for hiding your tv!!! LOVE it!!!! I feel like my kids are getting a little too obsessed and i think they would stop whining about wanting to watch a “showa!!” if they didn’t see the tv!!

Looks great, I love the pops of color against the natural wood. I rearrange things a couple times a year, whenever the mood strikes me.
