what i wore wednesday

welcome again to wiww, where we gather together to keep accountability to getting dressed and putting a little effort into ourselves!

each week, as i look over a handful of participants here, i get super self-conscious.  i’m not talking about the clothes other people have and i don’t – i’m pretty much ok with that.  i’m talking about pictures.  the quality of pictures and the level of professionalism.  when i look at many of your posts, i feel silly posting my fuzzy phone pics.  i stand in pretty much the same position, in one of 3 locations around my house, nearly every week.  and i see you, who post in brick-walled alley, or a flowery field, or in the middle of a tree lined street.

this comparison thing, it stinks.  it makes me feel like heck, i’m the one hosting this!  my pictures should look as good as everyone else’s!  but really, that is not what this is about,  and maybe the comparison happens for you with the clothing or hairstyles or house envy from what you see in the background.  but i am doing my best to leave that behind and focus on why i am doing this silly thing of taking pictures of myself everyday.  i do it so i don’t wear my pajamas all day every day.  because i did.  and sometimes i still do.  but knowing i have a group of women who are encouraging me to put just 10 extra minutes into throwing on a flattering outfit, that pushes me on!  my self worth is not wrapped up in my appearances, but that said, who doesn’t feel better when they look better?  really.

so i’m moving on.  i am no longer going to wish my pictures were as good as so and so, or that i could pose naturally in front of the camera like her.  i will continue to push my self to get dressed every day and strive to learn new skills (better pics, poses, locations), but i will not obsess over them.  i need to be content.

rambling done.

so this week i was at snap and didn’t bring my big dslr with, so phone pics is what you get!

i wore this outfit the day i spoke, knowing i wouldn’t last all day in those wedges, especially with having to set up for the queen bee market as well.

Love your outfits Lindsey….I have seen your outfit with the orange sweater all over Pinterest from your earlier post…Kudos my dear…it is perfect!

Congratulations on speaking at Snap and showing at the Queen Bee Market, (hopefully I will see you at the June Market). Good luck tomorrow with the Stitch Market….I so admire your successful business and drive! Have a great show!

I think every time I link up, wow I wish my craft area was that cute or that I want a yellow dresser or a clean kitchen! So yes be content, if not thrilled because all of your pictures are awesome and on top of that you always look so darling! PS Still loving the clutch, thanks for sending it to us! xo

  4. 4

Such cute outfits! My favorite is the one you spoke in, so excellent choice. And thanks, as always, for hosting.

  5. 5

I was wondering where that adorable top you wore the day you spoke came from. Your entire outfit that day was so awesome. I’m thankful for instagram giving me sneak peeks! I’m with you- its SUPER hard not to compare myself in every way to all the fabulous girls who link up with you now. My photos are not as good, my poses are not as good, my clothes…but that’s not what it’s about. Thank you for the reminder. :) As always, thank you for giving us a place to ‘party’ together. See you Thursday night!

LOVE the Chambray shirt with the white jeans! Ok so I totally know how you feel about the pics. I would love to have awesome pics of my outfits too but I am just lucky to have my husband willing enough to take pics of me in my outfits and he totally hates doing it.

I think you are too cute and the pictures are great. IN fact, I have never once thought something like ‘wow her pictures could use some work!’ I just notice your outfits which are always cute! Love your first one you wore to speak at SNAP – so cute! Thank you for hosting the linky party and for the reminder, work with what ya got and stop comparing!! I think we all do it in some way or another!

  9. 9

I just found you this week through some other bloggers, so nice to meet you and be able to meet others. I am so with you on the photo thing. Although I think you are being to tough on yourself the pictures came out lovely. Love the shoes and the necklace.

  10. 10

Omigosh, I so hear ya on the photos and the posing. I have started to feel that mine are SO LAME. But I always think you look adorable and natural, and that you have a variety of poses and backgrounds. So I think we all just get stuck in the comparison thing.

Love that casual comfy outfit – my favorite kind!

AND I was just debating taking my SLR to the Disney Conference, and you just made up my mind. Nope. Traveling light and taking my iPhone. THANKS!

  11. 11

Gorgeous as always! I love the first outfit! I need to find that Chambray shirt!

  12. 12

you are soo cute!! loving all your different outfits!!!

  13. 13

The saying “comparison is a thief of joy” is absolutely true. I know I fall into it’s trap more than I’d like to admit. But be encouraged! You are gorgeous and I’ve always enjoyed your pictures! Thanks for doing this every week- you’re an encouragement to all of us!

  14. 14

I had this same issue once I started blogging. And honestly, it’s a perfectly good thought…not superficial at all. Blogging is a hobby of mine, and with ANY hobby or activity that I undertake, I like to get better at it. (I mean, if you’re going to do something that you enjoy and have fun with, why not make it the best that you can?) If you bake part time, or for the love of it, you upgrade your equipment…(just an example). For me, getting a better camera and lens was the next step.

With that said, you looked very cute this week ; )

  15. 15

Love the outfit with the white pants and button down top. Fresh and spring-like.

I’ve never once thought that your photos were anything but well-composed and beautiful. I wish I had better spots to take mine, but we live in a basement apartment. I pose in front of the boiler room and we get zero natural light, but I try to smile anyway :)

  16. 16

Lindsay, it’s been a while since I joined in so I did again today. Thank you, as always, for hosting. It’s so much fun!

As for photos, don’t feel that way. If I had to put effort into *where* I took pictures plus all the effort it takes to actually get looking decent, I wouldn’t have much time for anything else :) You always look great, no matter where you are. And hey, my pics are in such an uninspiring place, my chickens running through one of my photos hee hee!!

    Happy Wednesday!

    xo

I love the sequence top! I’ve been wanting one so bad but haven’t found one that I really like yet, I might have to check out Old Navy now:-) I too look at other blogs and think my photos are insufficient and I am one of those people who try’s really hard to get natural yet professional looking pictures. But I do the best with what I have and hopefully people enjoy them. I’m jealous of all the beautiful things you make. They are so beautiful. Keep it up!

  18. 18

It’s definitely easy to get jealous of other girls’ nicer clothes, camera’s, etc. Best to remember that we’re all in this together!! Otherwise I’d have to be very jealous of how skinny you are. You can wear stuff I can’t!!

  19. 20

I am inspired each week by you and all of the other women who link up, regardless of the quality of the photos. THANK YOU! for taking the time to share, and for giving us a place to share, too.

  20. 21

I spy some pretty little things that need to make their way into my closet! *love*

  21. 22

Hi Lindsey! I’m a long-time visitor of your blog, but I rarely comment because, well, you’re just so popular I assume you don’t need whatever my two cents may be. :) But I want you to know, you are adorable. Your poses are adorable. Your pictures are adorable. Your outfits are adorable. You have inspired ALL THESE WOMEN and my sense of fashion and style has changed, thanks to you and your “silly” link-up. Don’t listen to those lies that are meant to bring you down, to rob you of all joy and to discourage you. Look at the number of women who participate every single Wednesday! Be encouraged…and also, know you aren’t alone. I think we all compare ourselves to each other and find we come up short…let’s all agree to BREAK THAT CHAIN!!!! Again, it’s a lie meant to discourage us and bring us down and keep us from the JOY our Father has given us! Sorry to ramble on…I just wanted you to know how great this is.

  22. 23

Adorable, as always! I am obsessed with the 2nd outfit especially, I’ve seen it on pinterest too! Don’t worry about your pics, I’ve never once thought, “her pics need some work,” so I doubt anyone else has!

  23. 24

You started this fun place of sharing outfits, don’t fret that you don’t go do a photo shoot for each outfit, the point is to SEE. I do almost all of mine on my front porch–same old, same old. It was fun to chat with you at SNAP, if only briefly;)

  24. 25

Hi Lindsey, I like the accountability also :) I admit I feel awkward every time I get in front of the camera to pose for a photo! LOL! Love your honesty!

  25. 26

    Hi Lindsey
Love coming here every week to get inspiration on outfits. Being a stay at home mom is hard work and you often do not get to see what is stylish or what is really is being worn and not just sold at the stores. Looking good helps you feel good and is important for us. Thank you so very much for doing all this for us. I don’t have a blog or would even know how to link up so you are way ahead of me.

  26. 27

Thanks for hosting! Very cute outfits!

  27. 28

You are so right about the comparison thing … we have to really guard our hearts in this bloggy world. That’s why I wanted to ‘keep it real’ in my post today. A little compare and contrast ;).

And what about the picture I snapped of your second outfit?? I mean really, do you see that smile on your face? Forget the ‘technical’ aspect, I captured a great Lindsey smile! ;).

Happy Wednesday & good luck with Stitch!!

  28. 29

I’m like you – I was starting to get embarrased about my iphone pics in the same *one* location and the same *one* pose, but just like you said, this is not about comparisons, it’s about making sure that i spend that little extra time each day looking good for myself and my family.

  29. 30

I feel the same way about my own picture quality sometimes! I love your pictures though…they are real! Cute outfits!

  30. 31

I feel the same way about my photos. How about we just hire a photographer and split the cost of housing them and transporting them back and forth between us? :D Loving your sassy little flats this week!

  31. 32

You have such a great sense of style! I’m loving all the coral!

  32. 33

I love your petal pusher and your sequin top! Your outfits are so super cute!!

  33. 34

No, no your pictures are fine! I know what you mean-mine are always self-portraits in front of my mirror and maybe slightly crooked sometimes. ha Also, I can’t figure out how people get their whole body to fit into the linky picture square. It doesn’t matter what size my photo is, it doesn’t work! Oh well.

  34. 35

Just came across your blog from another link up – doing this link up now! Yay! Following you as well; love your blog!!

    Sarah

  35. 36

Love your orange sweater day. Might have to copy that outfit. :-)

As far as photo quality, my word. I take my self-pics in front of a red plastic framed mirror that is falling apart. I close my bedroom door so you can’t see the reflection of my way overcrowded bookcase in my guest room. Ha!

I appreciate you starting today’s post that way because I can easily fall in to comparison instead of inspiration too. No more!!!

I’m OK with my wonky mirror and low quality pics. It’s all just for fun.

  36. 37

Love your leopard print ballet flats from Target! That outfit looks adorable together! And I’m with ya on the self-conscious over the quality of pictures thing… but I’ve never even thought your pictures look low-quality, I’m to busy looking at how cute your outfits are :)

  37. 38

I know what you mean about the ‘professional’ pics. I cant bring myself to photograph myself but want to add something to how dressing makes you ‘feel’. It is a proven fact that when you put effort into your appearance your attitude about EVERYTHING is better as well as overall performance. I went to Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas. Its a very conservative University and has grown A LOT since I was there. I don’t know if they still do this but I had several professors that strongly encouraged dressing professional on test days for this reason. There is/was (?) also a pretty strict dress code which did not allow wind shorts or anything of that nature anyway. You may or may not know that dressing up is pretty common in West Texas anyway, which I often laugh at especially when at a fast food restraunt!

BTW, LOVE your style! I think its because its dressy yet casual and appears comfortable which is MOST important to me :)

  38. 39

I just had to tell you that you are even CUTER in person. I’m so sad I didn’t get to “meet” you officially, but I loved seeing what you wore everyday…you are one stylish Mama!! :)

    Jenna

  39. 40

I, too, have had the picture taking envy. Mine are in the same location every time and in a mirror. I don’t even own a tripod. But I like what you said, it is about getting out of the pjs and making an effort each day. So I will cling to that and not worry over the quality of my pics. Thanks for the encouragement!! I love WIWW, by the way. :)

  40. 41

I really need some leopard flats.

  41. 42

could you be any cuter? seriously! These pics don’t even do you justice, your outfits were so cute and I LOVED meeting you in person finally! wish we had more time to chat! xoxo

  42. 43

I agree with what Keri up there said! You’re fabulous and your pictures are perfect. =) I love your super cute leopard flats!!

  43. 44

I really appreciate what you had to say about the comparison struggle, and especially the photos part because that’s my biggest hurdle… feeling like I’m the only one still taking pics of myself in front of the mirror with a good ol’ point and shoot.

The truth is it’s not a photography contest, but IS all about being challenged to dress with more style and less pajamas :) So thanks for the encouragement.

  44. 45

I do the same thing every week too (except this week C:)

I think you look adorabel each Wednesday no matter where you are.

  45. 46

this is def a great feature! :) i’m absolutely loving it!

  46. 47

CUTE outfits! Love the first one! It’s funny that you mention the locations because today as I was posting I was thinking I wish I have a more creative background than the front door! But I tried outside pics and I felt like I looked enormous….weird, right? Anyway, you’re right, I do enjoy taking the extra time for looking pulled together vs. ready for bed! Thanks for hosting!

  47. 48

I have the same comparison problem. My shots are almost entirely phone shots, b/c that’s the nature of my life… I also compare outfits. I need to do more outfit posts. I am drawn to them and clearly so are so many other people! I tend to think “eh, this outfit isn’t [creative][dressy][colorful]etc… enough to post.” I just need to do it!

  48. 49

I’m loving the animal print flats, but that’s because I’m totally digging prints now. I really like your casual yet clean & fresh look. Always a pleasure coming to your blog!

  49. 50

I just saw the movie I Don’t Know How She Does It and thought of you, girlfriend!!! You are amazing!

  50. 51

You always have such cute outfits, and I love all your accessories. I too get that envy but right now I’m doing the best I can with the time and resources I have. So it might not be like everyone else’s, but it’s me.

  51. 52

I think your pictures are great! Who has time to travel somewhere weekly to pose for their blog post? To me it makes sense that you would do it at home, in the same locations, as it is supposed to be a reflection of your daily life. Your outfits are ADORABLE. I especially love the first one. : )

  52. 53
    Kirsten J says:

Lindsey!! You are the Queen of WIWW! Aren’t we funny creatures? Because I’ve never had the guts to post my own pics because I’d never look as cute and pulled together as YOU!!! And here you say you compare your own cute self to others. Anyway, thank you for keeping the inspiration rolling, your blog posts are always a bright spot in my day. And I thank YOU for inspiring me to get out of my yoga pants and try a cardi/tank combo. Now. If ony I could accessorize as well as you….

  53. 54

    your pictures are great!
    :)
i was wondering HOW to find out where this place that you call target is? how would i ever find this place? there is no link.

    HA HA HAHAAAAAAaaaaaa

    miss you.
and you are so stinkin’ cute!

  54. 55

Hi Lindsey! This is my first time linking up. =) I love your blog and have followed for a while now, I thought it was finally time to join in the fun. Friday’s I do a weekly fashion post called Frivolous Fashion Friday. Please stop by and check it out. I wasn’t sure if I should link it up or not. It’s not a “what I wore” post. More like a fashion inspiration post. I’m getting braver and thinking about doing a What I Wore Wednesday post. We’ll see. : ) Thanks soo much for hosting! Have a great weekend.

    ~ Catie

Oh btw, you always look soo cute! It doesn’t matter what you’re taking your pics with. When you’ve got great fashion sense, you’ve got great fashion sense and it always comes across!

  55. 56

I think I may be obsessed! I’ve never heard of WIWW. This is super helpful. I’m not style savvy so I need this reference when shopping for clothes. I’m going back to work after maternity leave and need some new pieces for the offices. Thanks for organizing such a neat thing!
