life rearranged

i’m linking up my weekly phone pics with jeannett again! i’m thepleatedpoppy on instagram if you want to follow!

my toes were looking a bit “shabby chic”, minus the chic part.  chippy paint is cute for furniture, but on the toes?  not so much.

i got some happy mail from ike & co!

my brother and his boys are here visiting from maui.  what better reason for having s’mores by the fire?  (just looking for more excuses to eat them!)

with my parents and brother in town, we decided to play hooky from church.  we only do it a couple times a year, but sometimes a break is nice!  we headed to the flea for a little sunday morning fun!  this marble guy said he had over 1/2 a million more at home!

here are my finds, plus a $3 dresser and a succulent.  $15 total!  yes, thats another owl.  i need to paint another one.  neeeeeeed to.  and then i think i’ll be done. probably.

cousins in town make it more fun to check things off our summer list, like getting snow cones!

and going for family bikes rides to the beach!

ok, back to work.  work?  what’s that?  i am having the hardest time figuring out where work fits in with summer and kids, so if you’ve emailed me about something that requires thought, i will get back to you.  hopefully before september.

sean had to work a couple days in santa barbara this week, so we decided to join him!  the kids and i dropped him off early at his conference and the kids and i ate breakfast at one of our favorite diners downtown.

i feel like i never get to be the fun mom.  i’m always too tired.  when i go out of town and sean has the kids, he’s the fun dad, doing all sorts of fun things with the kids.  well, this time it was my turn.  being away from home pulled me away from responsibilities and distractions and it was so nice to just play and connect with the kids.

we went to the natural history museum and the kids got to experience what it would be like to be in the belly of a whale.

the butterfly exhibit was amazing!  so fun watching butterflies hatch.

i also had the pleasure of yelling at an employee after they kept yelling at silas for touching the butterflies, which he was not.  put a minor damper on a fun time.

then we headed to the ty warner sea center on the pier.

no one yelled at the kids there for touching anything!

we checked into our hotel room and opened the shutters to see this!  not too bad of a view!

the first day we spent about 3 hours at the pool and the second day we were there for almost 6.  it. was. awesome.  and we’re burnt.

this is what si looked like at the end of dinner.  pudding mustache and about to fall asleep – 2 signs of a good day.

after breakfast and a stroll down state street to window shop, we headed to this park.  it was such an amazing park.  i actually played with the kids at the park, not just sat on a bench and watched them.  it was the disneyland of playgrounds!

we had a couple days where there was so little bickering and so much loving – it was so nice!

but back home meant back to reality.  i am trying really really hard to get these patriotic posies done in time for the 4th, but its not looking so good right now!  but i will still list them for labor day (and memorial day, and next year’s 4th of july…).

 root beer floats, check!

gypsy caravan was the first line of fabric i ever saw by amy butler.  and that was was made me see that fabric was cool.  i am so happy that they rereleased the full line again!  i cut up every inch of this fabric last night and can’t wait to see it all come together into products!

sometimes i just look at my kids and think “ohmygoodness, they are so beautiful!”  this was one of those moments.

do you have any weekend plans?

i’m hoping to check more things off our summer list:  camp in the backyard, walk downtown, bring flowers to a neighbor…

The photo of your daughter looking in the mirror is one of the sweetest things ever! And, my husband is “fun Dad”, too. I, too, have let work go by the wayside the past few weeks in lieu of fun time with my girls:) Happy summer!

  3. 3

Your kids are totally beautiful! I love that you went and played with them at the playground. We all need reminders to be more present with our kids – thanks! And how adorable you look on your bike!

  17. 17

Could you come to Texas and go thrifting with me??? Maybe help me with decorating my house??? We could blog about it.,… Just think about it.

  18. 18

I believe I spy Little House books in that flea market stash, right? Love them! My oldest got the set for Christmas from my in- laws after I couldn’t seem to find them anywhere secondhand. The girls and I read them together almost every night. They’re funny, sad, and educational. They’ve learned a lot about how hard prairie life was for the early pioneers.
Have a lovely weekend with those beautiful kiddos:) We’re planning our vacation(with the girls) and will be heading south. One of the things on our list is to go see JONAH live at the Sight & Sound Theater in Lancaster,PA. Your comment about being in the belly of the whale made me giggle because this production will make us feel just like that!

  19. 19

I noticed you had reese cups on your smores. Have you tried rolos? They are amazing on smores.
