our summer list

it’s that time of year again!

inspired originally by meg, we made our list again of our highest hopes for summer.  we have everything from the stuff we know we’ll do to the things we’d love to do.  some of the stuff on our list are things we didn’t get to do last summer and will hopefully get to this summer.

i am most looking forward to: s’mores (i can check that one off already as i made one on the stove today while the kids were at school!), going to the drive-in, camping in the back yard, and going to my parents’ house in bass lake.

we have our list smack-dab in the middle of our house, right at kid level.

the list is actually a great motivator for me, to remember that the summer is supposed to be super fun for the kids, not just down time from school work.

it was so fun last year marking things off our list!

here’s our list from last year – we got almost everything done by the end of the summer!

we traveled a ton last summer and this year we’ve nixed almost all our plans so we can lay low and just enjoy being together – i am so looking forward to it!

i still need to make my own summer list  – of projects i hope to complete!  super excited about that one…

ps – the chalkboard was painted with chalkboard paint from home depot (?brand?), and the writing was done with chalk markers from amazon.   they are on sale for around $25 right now, although i’m sure we didn’t pay that much when i got them a couple years ago… maybe do a little more searching?

Love your chalkboard list! Is the chalkboard base wood? If so what thickness did you use? If not wood what did you use? Sorry for all the questions just think it would be fun to make one but not sure how. Love your creativity. Thanks!

*sigh* my fave thing on your list is ‘go to a drive in’. they are just such an unknown quantity in this country and totally wrapped up in the mythical American dream lifestyle (whichI know realistically doesn’t actually exist, a bit like we don’t all live in thatched cottages and bump into Hugh Grant every day in London)…. but also right now, when it hasn’t STOPPED raining forever since they announced we weren’t allowed to use hosepipes anymore, just the idea of being outside for a whole evening without needing waterproofs and constant bribery to make the kids enjoy seems like the kind of thing that only happens in fairy tales
    Have fun this summer!

WHAT A FABU idea! LOVE IT! Now, if I can only get the hubby to paint me a chalkboard.

This puts my post-it list to shame!!! I am going to take your lead and make a larger, more readable, more durable version of our Summer To-Do list!! Very very cute. Helpful too because I have all the ideas in the world when we don’t need one, but then my mind goes blank when we are looking for something to do.

    Have a great summer!!
