summer mantel

summer mantle

after hosting jeannett’s shower, i knew it was time for a little mantle update.

i am still loving our tv cover that my dad made for us – it is so much fun to decorate!

i knew i wanted to have a beachy look because that is just so summery to me, but i also wanted to incorporate color.  i found it really hard to do the 2 together, so i still went pretty mild with the color.  the turquoise ball jars are an easy way to add both a beach element and some pretty color.  the stones inside this jar were found on our property while we were building our house.

turquoise and aqua candles added a bit more color as well.  i love the picture of sean in the frame.  it was taken on our honeymoon at pipeline on oahu.

over the years of living near the beach i have collected tons of seaglass.  and whenever i needed more for a project or decorating, i buy a bag from walmart (they have everything there!).  i’ve collected the smaller blue bottles and jars for years from flea markets and estate sales.

summer mantle

totally not beachy, but a little bit of color, i added in my newly repainted owl

summer mantle

a galvanized bucket of seaglass and a pretty starfish

the striped frame has migrated all around my house and it seems to work everywhere.  it is falling apart and has no glass, but i still love it!

the orange fabric was left over from jeannett’s shower and i love the pop of color, slightly off-centered.

3 simple banners:  one using a vintage card game, one with store bought sand dollars hot glued to twine, another with paper doilies folded in half and stapled over yarn.

summer mantle

super simple, nothing fancy

i need to add flowers from our yard up there as well to add some more color!

i can’t imagine how i’ll incorporate 4th of july decor into this mantle, so either i’ll change everything in a few days or there will be no 4th decorates.  honestly, i only have one teeny tiny banner for the holiday anyway.  do you decorate for the 4th?

Love it!!! The color combo, beachy stuff, the banners, the owl, all of it…oh you are so creative!

  2. 2

I am into simplicity and low stress lately (granted, I am a little older than you!!) but I would just leave it alone and not worry about the 4th, it looks perfect!

It’s funny. You posted your little owl update and our local website put a ton of ceramic owls for bidding on it! I can already visualize what I would do to them.

Your mantle is gorgeous! I love the seaglass…someday I’ll have a whole jar after hunting some more on vacation. Thanks for sharing!

Super cute! I love the vintage cards. Where did you get those?

We are doing a 4th of July linky party. If you decorate your mantel, you should link it up. The details are on my blog today!!

Love it all, Lindsey!!! Hope your summer is going along swimmingly!!! Super hot over here in Ohio! I’ve been away from your blog a bit. Did I ever show you our Harry Potter Party? I did a really long series on it. Here’s the link, you can work backwards…

Absolutely love it! I never would have thought to glue little sand dollars to make a banner/garland. So cute!

I love the beach look. And I too used to change my house for all the seasons and the holidays, but the last few years I don’t seem to have the energy…Maybe once we move into a larger home I will get back into all the fun decorating I used to do… BTW…yours looks wonderful -L

I don’t decorate anything in our interior for the 4th (simple and uncluttered is my newest motto) but of course we hang our American flag out front. Funny, I don’t have to do too much anyway…our big old house is blue with white trim so even the red begonias I have hanging out front already make us look very patriotic. :)
I love your homemade banners. And I would love to collect sea glass from the beach. But alas, living hours from the coast I don’t get to do that. Maybe in the future. Neat to know Walmart carries it too in case I ever want to craft with it. Thanks for the tip!
