sean and i were able to get away for a few days this weekend while some great friends took our kids.  we headed up to a borrowed house in pebble beach – it was amazing, and just what we needed.  we bounced around from pebble beach to monterey, to carmel, to pacific grove.

pics from top left, clockwise: on the beach in carmel, at cannery row brewing company for dinner, in the banana republic dressing room, on the pier in monterey, another pier in monterey, on the coast trail in pebble beach.

biggest shocker of all:  we ran together.  we haven’t done that since our honeymoon!  sean hasn’t run since because it bugs his knees (3 too many knee surgeries).

something felt really surreal about this beach, like we were on a movie set.  not sure exactly why.  maybe it was because it was cold, yet still so many people were laying out?  crazy tourists ;)

there were so many adorable cottages in carmel.  walking the streets and window shopping was about the only thing we could afford to do there!  and somehow, we walked right past anthropologie and i didn’t even see it!  sadness.

a cute little deer couple out our window one morning.  yep, we were staying on a golf course (fancy!).

i loved this mossy stuff hanging from all the trees!  it made it a mix of romantic and spooky.  the deer were literally standing on their hind legs to eat the stuff!

this was our view from our misty walk the second morning.

 good to know

 our future’s so bright…

because sean does so much work in this area, he knew a couple that has a rental company in monterey.  they let us borrow a tandem beach cruiser and we had a little too much fun ;)  right after we made the serious faces, i burst out laughing and spit all over the back of sean’s head – oops!

we had such a fun mix of walking, playing, driving (we turned 17-mile drive into 37-mile drive), snuggling, relaxing, dreaming, and just being together.  we took the weekend to write out our goals (5 year, 1 year, now…) for our businesses, and also to talk about specific family issues (parenting stuff).  it was great to take the time to talk through the things we don’t always have time for, or make time for in our day-to-day.  reconnecting is good.  so good.

life rearranged

linking up my weekly phone pics with jeannett again this week!

my pics are much fewer than usual since we’re trying to cut back on our phone usage, especially after listening to this sermon.

plus we were working on our front yard and i didn’t really have my phone on my for 3 days.

my parents worked so hard this week at my house!  they always do when they visit, but this week was particularly laborious!  our entire front yard was covered in thick weeds and grasses and we’re slowly in the process of renovating the yard on a very tight budget.  i can’t tell you how happy i am to just see dirt rather than brown weeds!

my niece and a friend were also up visiting this week, so we took them to pismo’s old west cinnamon rolls for a yummy breakfast treat!

i loved this motel sign on our 2 block walk down to the beach!

pismo tends to be overcast and chilly in the mornings, but at 8:30 am it was 74*!  i so wanted to head back down there later in the afternoon, but we ran out of time.  and i ran out of energy!  this beach is great for sand dollar searching – i think we found 5 or 6 in about 30 minutes.

a little design work i’m doing for our school – i had an old globe i bought for a few bucks and painted chalkboard paint directly on it – i love how it turned out!  i may be doing this to one of my own soon…

not a phone pic, but i still thought i’d share this!  groopdealz is offering another fun deal that i thought you might like to take advantage of – these cute stretchy ruffly cotton tanks are only $8!  i think i want the white one – so pretty!

ok, friends – have a great weekend!  sean and i are getting a TWO NIGHT GETAWAY without kids this weekend, thanks to a swap with friends.  i am so stinkin’ excited!
