i’m linking up my weekly phone pics again this week with jeannett!
yay for finishing up swim lessons with friends!
we had to do a make-up session for our last class and we could only do it at 7:30am – that was a hard one! hot chocolate for the kiddos helped!
naptime!
a little crafting – more on that tomorrow…
apparently we live in the napping house
on saturday we went to the fair (summer list!). i borrowed gracie’s saylor rose necklace to fit in ;)
4 day old black lamb at the fair – aaawwwww!
rodeo (summer list)
gracie and silas did some mutton bustin’ at the fair (summer list). they have been looking forward to it for a year!
si, all geared up
gracie, no fear, straddling the sheep
silas, on quite possibly the fastest sheep of them all!
cotton candy as a consolation for getting tossed in the dirt
the girls went on these swings and i was shocked! i thought for sure it would be too scary for them, but they were hotting and hollering and waving tehir hands in the air – so cute!
some days this happens. these are the happy days. could they be more different?
pretty rides on a beautifully hot day
we always love seeing the animals at the fair
after the fair, we drove a few hours to my parents’ house for the week. this is where i grew up until i was 18. it will always be home.
the stone steps go along one side of our house. i love how magical it is, with the mossy rock steps.
teaching lily how to play solitaire
eating lots of yummy food (and only cooking once!) – these are my mom’s yummy breakfast rolls
gracie teaching silas how to ski. on the beach.
silas borrowed the neighbor’s kayak and got really good at it! he was kind enough to give gracie a ride to the island to pick up some more mud for her mud pies.
hours and hours every day were spent on the beach, watching the kids swim, and reading. it was a really hard week.
gracie created silas’ birthday mud cake for his 5th birthday on thursday
we decided to do “cake wars” for si’s birthday: i made a few cakes and cut them into smallish squares for each person to decorate, then we judged for the winner.
i thought for sure i’d take home the gold with my julius cake, but sean won with his half pipe cake.
see the big rocky area at the top of the mountain? thats where sean proposed to me almost 14 years ago!
since the ski boat broke the day before we got to bass lake, we used the party boat for getting around a few times. doe she look 5? i think so too.
special birthday dinner at the forks, the very best burgers in all of the land. for reals.
the brave few to jump off the boat
and the very slowest, most boring knee board ride in the history of ever. then she let go and said, “thank you!” and was done. weird kid.
so that’s what i’ve had to do all week: eat, lay out, read, nap, play games… its been hard and i can’t wait to get home to reality. NOT!

Such wonderful Summer pictures!!!
You’ve gotten me twice this week, right in the heart. Your post about your boy’s birthday brought tears to my eyes and then mentioning The Napping House – a book I just recently moved to the basement bookcase as after more than a decade, there isn’t anyone left to read it to now. Everyone has moved on to chapter books.
Seeing Silas on that sheep roused my spirits though! As well as seeing that I am not the only grown woman who still feels joy in my heart when I pull up to the house I grew up in. I’m actually leaving for a week long visit in just a few hours.
Saw you are reading “Shepherding a Child’s Heart”! Do you love it? It’s seriously the best parenting book I’ve ever read. My son just turned one and I am so determined to do a good job raising him. This book totally changed how I think about parenting and discipline.
Love these! Looks like you’re having tons of Summer fun!
you live the life! your family always looks like you are having a blast, I want to come live with you guys in your house of napping ;)
LOVE that picture of the two pigs!
did you not LOVE growing up at a lake?! i grew up summering at a lake, then once i ‘grew up’ and had a family of my own, i was determined to raise them near a lake, which we’re doing. we live about a block off the water, have a boat at the marina, and spend countless hours on the water with our 8 & 9 year old kids. totally unplugged, swimming, tubing, eating our dinners out there together, lounging, watching the kids find endless ways to amuse themselves together without any ‘screens’ . it’s paradise! last night we knocked a few off our summer list – took a twilight boat ride, skinny dipped (in the dark), and made glow in the dark bubbles (container glowed, bubbles didn’t) I LOVE SUMMER!

The picture of the girls holding hands is, quite possibly, the cutest thing ever.
You are building some of the most precious memories for your family. The pics are just darling! There are just some things that scream summer…the fair, the lake, the boating, all full of goodness! Enjoy!
Sounds like a lovely week! And some great family time. Hope the transition back to real life is not to painful. I always have trouble with the transition!
Looks like such a great week!! Can’t believe you’re baby is 5! Time is such a jerk! :(
It looks like suCh a sweet, special week!
Oh, I have a treasure trove of memories from Bass Lake. You captured such joy through your pictures! Love it!
Sorry, I’m terrible with my new blog name.
