linking up my weekly phone pics again with jeannett!

there have been WHALES off our coast!!!  its crazy.  so we went with the ten thousand other tourists and locals and tried to spot them too.  no such luck.  after going through my pictures i realized i did catch one small very distant spray, but that was it.

see this super adorable kid sized sewing machine?!  don’t buy it.  unless of course you just want to use it like i have for the last couple years as a really cute accessory for your crafty space.  then, yes, totally buy it.  but if you actually want a child to sew, don’t buy it.  terrible.

we so rarely do this, lest you think we are the perfect family (i surely have crushed that vision for you long ago, yes?).  but… sean did remember one night last week to grab his guitar for some family worship time.  silas disappeared and then reappeared with his hidden-in-the-garage-because-its-broken-and-annoying guitar, and tried to strum along with his daddy.  it was about the cutest thing in the world.  not the best sounding, but the cutest.

and the first day of school – kinder, 2nd and 3rd!  the kids all love their teachers, and so do i!

and now that the kids are back in school i can get back to business again!  i am so looking forward to having some routine again.

and since our kids are in a hybrid school and only go to class twice a week, i homeschool the other 3.  and even though our load is generally lighter this first week, it still went really well, these first couple days of schooling all 3.  yay for happy starts!

kindergarten really is such a magical year.  and i am actually so happy to have this time with silas that needs to be 1 on 1, to do the finger painting and crafts and reading aloud.  it makes me slow down and find more joy in what i’m doing.  remind me i said this in a few weeks, ok?

getting back to school has meant an extra tired boy.  his room was too scary for him and it was already after 9 o’clock when he asked if he could just sleep on the floor outside his room (in the kitchen), so i said yes.  he was out in 2 minutes and stayed there for a couple hours until we moved him.

i’m not usually a red girl, but i tried this week and it was fun!

totally cheesy, but i thought it was funny that it was 101 degrees when we were driving on the 101.  yep, just typing it makes it even cheesier.

we don’t get much hot weather here on the central coast – just a few weeks a year of hot hot weather.  now i know this is nothing to so many of you, but since we don’t get this kind of weather, most of us don’t have ac either.  so if its hot outside, we’re hot all day.  unless we go to target.  shoot!  i should’ve done that!

we’re spending the long weekend here at my parents’ house again.  this shot of it in the morning is so peaceful to me.  totally my happy place.  there are a few spots around the house and yard that just hold so many memories that come flooding back to me as i pass by them.  i shared one fo those spots with silas today and he said “this place is awesome!”.  yes, son.  it is.

now being that its a holiday weekend, the crazies are coming and that pretty little island there with be chock full of boats and noisy people and ruckus and hooligans and…. stuff.  not so quiet anymore.  but its still fun and we’ll soak up every minute!

No ac? How awesome would that be. Ours runs practically year round. Got.to. move. To California!

No ac? Like for real? Shocking! In MN I go directly from heat to ac it seems! My oldest girl is also going into 3rd :) I’m hoping this will be a great year! And she is also my middle, who I could explain like your middle – watch out when she gets mad! I hope you enjoy the rest of the holiday weekend at your parents’ house making new memories with your family!

Growing up we didnt have AC either – our favorite way to cool off was going to the Wednesday afternoon $1 movie at our local (air conditioned) theater! I am totally intrigued by your school arrangement. Is the entire academy a 2 day school / 3 day homeschool? I have never heard of anything like it, but think it is a wonderful idea! I went to public school and my hubby was homeschooled. I have my degree in elementary education and taught for several years. We both agree that we want to home school our children (if God chooses to bless us with them) however I do think there can be valuable lessons learned in a classroom/group leaning environment. Does the school provide you with curriculum and a schedule to follow when you all are at home? Hope you stay cool over Labor Day Weekend :)

Enjoy the lake! Will you go to the peddler’s fair? Not always a lot of good stuff to buy, but definitely a lot of good people watching!! Have a wonderful weekend!

Lindsey so very lovely to see you savor your homeschooling days…just reading it brought tears of loving memories back for me…as two of mine are college bound, and the third has transferred into our local high school so he can play football. September has always been my favorite month of the year, it holds such promise of new beginnings as well as being a succinct marker of time past. Thank you for the gentle reminder.

Is there such a thing as a good sewing machine for kids? Seems like every one I’ve seen doesn’t work very well.

I really wish we had more options for those great hybrid schools here in Missouri… Sounds so great!! You are such a good Mama to your kiddos… You seem to make such great memories for them and spend time WITH them!!

“…lest you think we are the perfect family…”
Love how real you are. Much appreciated.

No AC?? So weird. When we lived in Lompoc, CA I’m pretty sure we had AC, but when we lived in Wyoming we didn’t (but there would only be two weeks a year where it was over 60)
Now we live on the Gulf and this winter we bought one HALF cord of wood and its laughable how little we used.

And poor silas! Kids always can fall asleep in the strangest conditions! And he asked if it was okay? So sweet and thoughtful!
