one of the awesome things about homeschooling:  going for a walk/scooter ride with friends on a friday morning.  do you see cute baby ezra in the brood?  love him!  although i think i scare him a little…

oh i love our front porch.  its the perfect place to sneak off to when i need a break, but close enough that i can run inside to break up a fight.

we have some awesome sunsets here.  think pink cotton candy clouds.

we snuck out before bedtime to go get hot chocolate and pumpkin lattes, and play a little game of uno.  my kids are so fun!

and here’s the swing sean built for our front porch, where the baby swing used to hang.  not only has it provided hours of happiness for my kids, but also an equal amount of time of arguing over the swing.

a little before and almost after of my mantle.  it still needs a little work – kinda blah.  i’ve got a few ideas…

s’mores in the backyard again.  turns out, my aussie instagram friends have no idea what s’mores are!  i know!  crazy!  ok, it is now my pleasure to educate you:  you take graham crackers (do you have those?) and chocolate.  some like hershey’s bars, some like reeses pb cups.  then you take a marshmallow, put it on the end of a long stick (or untwisted wire hanger), and roast it over a fire.  in an emergency, you can also roast a mallow over the stove.  then you take the mushy gooey marshmallow and sandwich it between the 2 graham crackers with chocolate.  then wait!  hold the s’more in your hands for a few seconds until the chocolate starts to melt, then bite in and let out some mmmmmmmmm’s and nomnomnom’s.  you’re welcome.

    hey there!
thanks for explaining the s’mores. I am from australia and i have heard of them before, although we dont have graham crackers as such but i think an arrnots marie biscut is similar? (kinda like a digestive biscut that we use in a cheesecake base)? we dont have herseys or peanut butter cups either!! :(
Must attempt them anyway I think! Yummo

      hey tameeka,

digestive cookies would work great and any cadbury chocolate would be yummy too! hersheys is just a plain piece of chocolate, but i prefer to use cadburys! yumm… even a caramilk would be good on a smore. do you have cadbury there?

      Hi, Tameeka,
I’m an American who is now an Australian. =) the marie biscuit would work or like robin says the digestive biscuits would too. And I’ve often used the digestive biscuits that have chocolate on the bottom so I skip the chocolate bar step. And Aldi often sell the American type marshmallows. our IGA also sell a store brand marshmallow that are a lot more American type than Pascalls. I also find a lot of places around here (local IGA, Night Owl convenience store, local candy store, local bulk food store) sell American chocolates.

I love the view from your porch. I forgot how pretty the hills out west are.

  3. 6

Oh my I couldn’t imagine my summers without s’mores! That view of the sunset is amazing.

  4. 7

In an emergency you can use the stove, lol. I love it!

Love the swing on the porch! So fun – hopefully they have lots of great memories of time spent out there:)

what a fabulous porch swing. I homeschooled my little guy for awhile and wish I had kept it up. Happy Friday to you and your gang. :)

On the S’mores issue…. I OFTEN make myself 1 as a late night snack by putting them in the oven under the broiler for a minute or so! They are perfect! a yummy variation is to use shortbread cookies! Vanilla Wafers work too! Oh, and Nutella makes for a mean s’more!!
My boys just like the roasted, or broiled, marshmallow on graham crackers, no chocolate.

If you don’t have reeses cups a generous smear of peanut butter on one of the graham crackers and then put in the plain chocolate and you have an instant homemade peanut butter cup smore that taste amazing!

OMG! Those smores look more than amazing!
