what i wore wednesday

welcome to “what i wore wednesday“!
as a stay-at-home mom, getting in a fashion rut is so easy.  actually, staying in my jammies is even easier.  but… i feel so much better when i get dressed each day, when i like what i’m wearing, when i feel “cute”.  and getting an extra head turn from my husband is pretty nice, too!
i’m a real mom, i need to wear realistic clothes.  i’m down on the floor with the kids, chasing runaways, and getting sticky hands wiped on my thighs – i need clothes that work for my life.  my clothes aren’t fancy.  i don’t shop high end.  but its so fun trying to make it work (i’ve got project runway playing in the background right now!).
this outfit was perfect for a long saturday.  it took me from hanging out at home in the morning, to apple picking in the afternoon, to covering up at the beach, to happy hour at a friend’s house.
my messenger bag did double duty as well, hauling all sorts of extras around town.
jean jacket – forever 21
tank tops – forever 21 (great cut and fit – less than $4 each!)
maxi skirt – target
gold flip flops – old navy
easy church outfit – i felt a little dressy with the sheer top, but so comfy!
top – tulle (hand-me-down)
pants – old navy (super old)
flats – payless
i love the fit of these pants, but i can’t stand the belt with this outfit!  i really needed a thin black belt for this, so i just picked one up at forever 21 for $3.  seriously, their prices are crazy!
i dropped the kids at school and then felt like i was running around with my head cut off until 7 o’clock this day!  i had so many balls in the air and i definitely dropped a few.  i was really glad for this day to end.
top – forever 21
jeans – target (i wanted to marry target this week)
sandals – gap
necklace – allora handmade
so, if you haven’t noticed already, when i get something new, i like to wear it.  a lot.
take this necklace from noonday.  i have been wanting a long gold necklace for awhile and this fit the bill perfectly!
as i was searching their site, i also got really distracted by all the prettiness, and almost picked out this necklace, too!
but the outfit?  meh.  its ok, and it was comfortable (which clearly is important to me), but the top half maybe was too baggy/sloppy.  i do like the balance of the skinny jeans with it, though.
speaking of skinny jeans, i have been searching for these coral skinnies since maybe may.  they needed to be under $30 and i couldn’t find them anywhere.  then when i found the polka dot skinnies from target i almost missed the coral ones!  gracie was shopping with me and she made me buy them.  its her fault.
but then… i found another pair of coral skinnies at old navy the next day.  when i compared the 2, the old navy ones were really really tight on the legs and more of a neon bright coral.  the target ones definitely stretch out through the day, but seem  to be more of an appropriate fit for my stage of life.  and the coral was a bit softer.  and going for colored jeans was already a big step for me, so adding neon to that was maybe one trend too much for me!  plus, the target jeans were less money.
and here’s that necklace again!  isn’t it pretty?  i love the hammered look of the metal.  i also love what noonday collection stands for:  their passion is to connect you with the lives of artisans struggling for a better future while styling you along the way. fashion and design are a vehicle for opportunity and change. you, too, can be a voice for the oppressed!  pretty awesome, right?
and this necklace is extra special – its handmade by an artisan group in india that creates avenues of employment for the economically disadvantaged.
 sweater – old navy
shirt – target
jeans – target
shoes – nordstrom rack
