valentine’s decor

valentine's decor at the pleated poppy

i am not a big decorator for the smaller holidays (basically anything other than christmas), but it sure doesn’t look like it in these pictures!

i’m don’t love the idea of buying new decorations each year for the holidays, so i make do with what i have and what i can make on my own.  so i tend to reuse previous year’s decorations, but with a little bit different styling.  call me cheap!

i got these paper flowers from consumer crafts awhile back when i ordered my bandanas for my chevron bandana quilt.  and they’re on sale still!  the set came with a few other colors that i used for joy’s adoption shower.

the antlers are still up from christmas, and will probably hang out there for awhile.

funny story about this pompom garland:  i was in the craft section of walmart and saw yarn in pink, aqua, and red (a good red is hard to find in yarn!), so i grabbed them to make this pompom garland for valentine’s day.  um, apparently i am very forgetful because i had already made this garland last year.  so now i have yarn to return.  because all i do with yarn is make pompoms!

these fun little jars have been recirculating on pinterest again!  i loved them so much last year that i just did them again, but with all aqua jars this time.  here’s a link to where i got the idea from originally.

i grabbed a few of my pretty vintage books to set the jars at different heights and add a bit more color.

i made this fabric wrapped wire word at craft weekend.  everyone else was so creative with lots of colors and different fabrics, but i was boring with just one.

once i actually got out my small bag holding all our valentine’s decor (after i already bought the yarn), i realized that when i added my new valentines bunting (sold out in the shop – sorry!  i’ll make more next year) that i now had 5 garlands just for valentine’s day!  ri.dic.u.lous.  i only wanted one garland on my mantle this year, so i used the others around the house elsewhere, like here over our front porch windows.

i love the look of 2 garlands swagged, so i used a fabric bunting and also the paper one i sewed up last year.

remember my glitter heart shirt i cut up and remade?  i couldn’t throw away the cute glittery heart, so i just stuck it to the wall under my button monogram.

i did buy these cute little mail boxes for the kids while at target on a date with gracie.  at a buck a piece, i couldn’t resist!  i told the kids it was for writing love notes to each other… trying to encourage sibling love ;)

lily got right to work writing cards to her siblings! (my plan is working!)

what i wore wednesday

welcome to what i wore wednesday!  if you’re new here, yay!  wiww is a fun place for outfit inspiration, but also a great place to find motivation.  it is amazing how putting 10 minutes into yourself in the morning can change the way you feel about your day.  on the days that i stay in my jammies (which are more often than i like to admit), i have a lazier attitude and less motivation to get things done.  but when i’m feeling good about how i look, i’m ready for errands, coffee dates, or just answering my door (in something other than said jammies).  if you’re ready to take the plunge, i encourage you to join us.  start taking daily pictures of whatever you’re wearing, whether its yoga pants or work clothes.  once you are keeping yourself accountable to the act of taking pictures, you will want to improve upon what you see in those pictures.  putting on jeans instead of yoga pants, or adding a scarf to your normal oxford and blazer rut… you will see a change!

also, if you are new here, this is not just a fashion blog!  i have a fun handmade shop and i love to share my home and diy projects, too!  stay for awhile and take a look around!

this outfit was a little bit of a stretch for me because my sweater was just a touch shorter than i’d like it to be.  i feel like its a no-no to have your buns show in leggings (leggings give waaaay too much info on the tush than anyone needs). but i so wanted the outfit to work so i just went for it, tugging at my shirts and sweater in the back all. day. long.  so next time, i’ll just wear my black skinnies instead!

sweater – forever 21

chambray shirt – forever 21

leggings – walmart

boots – off broadway shoes

infinity cowl scarf – by me, but not available in the shop – sorry!  it was made with scraps. here are similar styles.

and another tip with leggings:  i always double up on my black leggings with a second pair underneath.  one, because i’m always cold.  and two, because black leggings tend to be really sheer.  just another reason to cover your bum ;)

any excuse to wear my rain boots, i’ll take it!  there were a few drops on and off throughout the day, so i deemed it a necessity.

as sean was taking the above picture, he teased me about my “f.t.” – front tuck.  i don’t tuck my shirts in much, so it stood out to him. i untucked it for him to see the difference.  the “f.t.” is not very forgiving to a mommy belly, i must say.  thoughts?
