we started our saturday morning with a hike with friends – so much fun!

sean and lily have been way into making bread lately.  each time they search around for a new recipe.  i’ve pinned a couple of them on my pinterest food board, but i don’t have them all.

lily is a resistent reader, but reading along with audio books seems to be clicking for her!  she was listening to the swiss family robinson here.

santa brought lily a baby alive that sips and tinkles.  after wetting the one and only diaper it came with, we decided to make our own.  she made a paper pattern, traced it on an old towel, and i sewed on some velcro and some extra padding.

one of my new years resolutions was to be a better friend.  giving cookies is friendly, right?

super cute packaging from garnish made it even better!

after a long homeschool day, i gave myself an hour break to finish up this project before dinner.   i forget how rewarding creating for my self is, rather than for sale.

apparently most of my instagram friends are from central oregon.  when i posted this pic of our homemade yumm bowls, i had more questions/comments than i could answer!  background:  our good friends live in bend, oregon, and they made us yumm bowls at home, copying a local restaurant, cafe yumm.  they had the special yumm sauce, and we didn’t, so we had to do without and it was still yummy!  here’s the basics: rice, meat (we used diced pork tenderloin), beans (black or pinto), cheese, avocado, olives, cilantro, sour cream, and yumm sauce, if you have it.

i had a little project to do at school.  my parents and i made this huge wood piece to cover some switch boards on the wall, and i wanted to dress it up with our school logo and a quote or something.

this is only partway done, but i’m loving it so far!  i love the bright color contrasting with the rough wood.

and i’m throwing in this pic just because it makes me happy.  on our way home from oregon we passed this truck place that had rainbow colored trucks!  red, orange, yellow, lime green, grass green, light blue, royal blue, and purple.  how cool is that?!  if i owned a truck company, i’d totally do this!

if you want to see what fun we’re having at craft weekend, tune in to instagram (thepleatedpoppy).

We recently moved from Bend to another part of Oregon, and we lament not having a local Cafe Yumm to eat at. We ate there often. Glad you got to enjoy a bowl:)

  2. 2

The Yumm Bowl reminds me of the Burrito Bowls that we have our here from Chipotle (not sure how wide spread they are, I know it’s not just in Pa). Soooo good. We go through periods of time where it’s the only takeout we eat. I can’t get it to taste the same at home :(

  3. 3

Your pictures are great! I love your creativity. Great idea with the towel diapers for baby alive!

  4. 4

Oh my GOSH!!! My husband and I drive by that truck place once a year on our way to Oregon ~ and it makes me smile EVERY time!!!

  5. 5

I love the canvas! Reminds me of my favorite Orla Kiely patterns.

  6. 6

That bread looks super yummy! And I love the rainbow colored trucks!

  7. 7

What a beautiful hike. Also…totally swiping yum bowls. Genius!

Oh I love all of these pictures!! So much fun. I’m quite addicted to Instagram :)

  9. 9

Oh my goodness – we live in southern Oregon (klamath falls) and drive by those trucks every time we go home to see my family in northern California. they make me happy every time I see them. :-)

  10. 10

I love that painting you did!!!

  11. 11

I love the paintings you’re working on, both for fun and for school. They look wonderful! I would like a truck company like that too, but I think I would add polka dots to all of them as well. :-)

    Yasmin Bennett says:

Hi Lyndsey! You can google the recipe for Yumm sauce. There are several out there. We made some once when we were out of the store bought stuff…it tasted pretty close to the real thing! Also, I’ve seen those trucks many times on our drive down to So. Cal. & Chico! Enjoy Craft Weekend!!

  13. 13

Diapers were a great idea and that yumm bowl looks so, well yummy! Stopping by from insta Friday!

  14. 14

Those bowls look yummy! Thanks for that, and thanks to Yasmin for saying I could google it. Duh. What is that in your bowl that looks like corn? Just corn or some kind of salsa?

Also, the bread looks delicious. I’ll go see if I can find your pinterest boards so maybe I can try that recipe, too! Happy Friday!

  15. 15

Oh, that yumm bowl looks like a winner!

  16. 16

I’ve driven by that truck place a few times and was irritated that I didn’t remember it was coming up so I could take a picture! It’s awesome and a great, albeit quick, distraction from a long drive. :)

  17. 17

We went down your direction for Christmas, we are from Salem Oregon, and passed that same truck place. I wish I had taken a pic. My husband has family in the SLO area and the weather was a nice break from our Oregon weather.

  18. 18

I love your pictures! And yes, home-made cookies are very friendly:) You really inspire me! Take care from England!
