what i wore wednesday

do you ever wonder “when will the crazy stop?”  that has been on my mind so much lately!  i have been moving from one project to the next, one thing after another and things are continually piling up!  sean and i often talk about our day and we both tend to say we played catch up all day, but never made any progress.  but this is the way it always is at the end of our trimester – a big push for projects to get done, progress reports to be filled out, and then we also helped with a huge fundraiser.  all those things, plus normal life thrown in, made for one very busy week.

on my busy weeks like this, style tends to get thrown out the window.  but rather than donning sweats every day, i’ll at least throw on some good fitting jeans, a cute t-shirt, and my converse.  and a little mascara and some blush can do wonders in 30 seconds!

so, again, this week my pictures are few since not much was blog-worthy!

how cool is this leather cuff?  give jewelry sent me and my girls a few bracelets recently and i love what their company does and stands for.  their motto, as you can see on the charm on my bracelet, is 1-1-1.  1 bracelet, 1 child, 1 week of food  – feeding children in orphanages throughout indonesia.

their are so many styles to choose from, you’re sure to find something that suits your style!  these would also be great for gifts, giving twice – to the receiver and to the children – yay!

our school throws a big fundraiser auction every year and sean and i always volunteer to help, which means we dress in costume.  actually, most of the attendees dress in costume as well since it is always based on a historical time period.  this year was the wild west!  since i couldn’t find a saloon girl costume that was even remotely appropriate, i had to get creative.  spending way too much time, i made myself a very full skirt with a sash at the waste and a ruffled hem.  i’ll probably wear this again with a hoop skirt if we have a civil war ball again!

shirt – forever 21

hat – my sister’s

on mondays, when the kids are at school, sean and i are generally both working from home together.  i had gone walking with joy in the morning, so i just stayed in my yoga pants and t-shirt around the house.  we decided to go on a lunch date and i wanted to test a theory.  since starting wiww my style has changed a lot.  i used to feel fine wearing sweats or yoga pants out in public all the time.  in fact, other than at church, thats about all i wore.  so for me to go out in my workout clothes should be normal, but my “normal” has changed so much.  as we were about to leave to lunch, i stayed in my yoga pants and asked sean if i should change or not.  he looked at me like “of course you should change”.  for me it was confirming that what i was doing, by putting a few minutes into myself in the morning, not only made a difference to me and how i felt, but also to how sean looked at me.  he’s my husband, i want him to look at me and like what he sees!

so this is what i quickly changed into – much better!

sweater – all saints

t-shirt – forever 21

jeans – target

boots – off broadway

necklace – allora handmade

You look beautiful as always friend. Excited to see you at Blissdom!

  2. 2

You made that skirt?! So awesome! Love the pictures!

  3. 3

Great outfits, I’m loving long skirts at the minute :) Thanks for hosting …

  4. 4

You look beautiful! I LOVE that lace top, especially with the sweater adorned with petal pushers! I also love your outfit for the auction!

Ahh, that last paragraph! Yes! I’ve been working my personal style more and it’s the best feeling when my husband sees me in a new outfit and tells me I look nice. We don’t have much of a budget for new clothes, so I have to get really creative with what I have. Documenting at least one outfit a week on the blog, forces me to get creative and spend a few extra minutes on putting something new together. It’s so worth it and my confidence has soared. We know our husbands love us, but it’s something special when we can wow them!

  5. 5

You are always so cute! I totally agree, it makes such a difference by just changing and adding a little makeup. I’ve come up with 3 or so makeup routines that take less than 5 minutes & I just rotate them. I feel like I have something new, it doesn’t take time, & I feel good about myself! There are ways to get it done! You’re always so encouraging :)

  6. 6

I think these outfits are completely blog-worthy! Love the use of maxi skirts and to be honest, I’m a little jealous you can wear them so soon in the season! :)

  7. 7

How have I not thought to pair sneakers with my maxi skirt?! Adorable! And the full maxi skirt? So perfect!

  8. 8

First of al, you are so cute Lindsay. I love your simple, laid back California style. ;) There’s just something to be said about dressing the day we want to have, you know? I think you stumbled upon gold when you started this little thing called WIWW! :)

  9. 9

I always wonder when the crazy will stop! Hahaha…

I love your lunch date outfit!

  10. 10

I have found that “dressing up” — which really just means putting a little effort into how I look — has become a habit, and the things I used to wear to leave the house wouldn’t even be considered now. And my husband has definitely noticed too :)

  11. 11

Love that you guys dress up in costume. And stylish ones at that!

  12. 12

I really love this link up every week :)

  13. 13

The older I get the more I realize, the crazy won’t stop.

It is just life under the Fall. In heaven, it will stop!

Just this week a dear friend lost her 21 year old son to cancer and three days later her daughter got married. I’m going to visit another friend’s teenage daughter in the hospital today who had her spine fused after years of scoliosis pain.

Fallen world. I hate it. Hate it!

BUT I have to look to Christ. Simply have to. I’m all teary writing this. Commenting on a WIWW post for goodness-sake. I’m now 10 months and a day in to chronic pain. I want it to be over. I want God to take it away. Mostly, I want Him glorified.

Didn’t mean to get all preachy but I needed to hear myself say these words this morning.

  14. 14

Ooo, what fun to be able to dress up in a period piece like that! Jealous! Thanks for hosting :) Happy Wednesday!

  15. 15

I love your ‘costume’. It looks really lovely and makes a stark and interesting contrast to the style of your other beautiful outfits. Wear it the next time you go out for lunch – dare you! Thanks again for hosting :)

  16. 16

Love that you made your own skirt! Wish I could do that!

  17. 17

I LOVE the lace top you wore to church! So cute!

Thank you for hosting this weekly link up. I’m amazed every week at how many people link up. It’s fabulous. I’ve discovered some great blogs from this. Thank you. I’m giving away a fabulous Stella & Dot bracelet on my blog and I’m also doing a link up tomorrow about how to wear cobalt. Hope you can join.

  20. 20

I am loving all your outfits as usual. I totally want one of those bubble necklaces!

  21. 21

Hi Lindsey, It’s my first time linking up for What I Wore Wednesday. Thank you for hosting.

When will the crazy stop? Hmmm, interesting concept, :) but I don’t think it’s ever gonna stop. I just try and be happy with what’s happening in the moment.

I love the whole idea of a wild west theme, and the barn behind you looks fantastic! Your gingham and long skirt are adorable on you. As are all the outfits you’ve featured.

I am loving the personalized L necklace you are wearing! Great wild west theme, how fun is that! I also love your maxi in the first outfit.

I don’t get all dolled up but will throw on jeans, shirt, flats/boots, and necklace before I leave. Not that I care what other people do but I don’t like leaving the house in gym clothes. Unless I am going to the gym :) Your 1st outfit is adorable!

  24. 24

Funny, I’m wearing an almost identical skirt/denim jacket outfit to school today. When I put it on I was thinking “wow, I’m reaching here” but you have to get creative when you work at a Christian school with a dress code(skirts ONLY).
    LOVE your costume, BTW:)

  25. 25

    I love your costume!

    maryanne says:

Hey there! What a strange coincidence — my son’s school is having its annual fundraising dinner/auction n April, and the theme this year is country/western. I have been agonizing about it, because I don’t want to look ridiculous (I have the added complication of trying to look “age appropriate,” which you don’t have to think about for years to come.) That being said, I’d like to embrace the theme. I’m not as talented as you are, so sewing is out of the question, but I may steal some of the elements of your costume! So far all I have is Lisa Leonard’s three-strand turquoise necklace, a pair of on-sale fringed boots from Target, and a cute, red western belt from ebay. Obviously I’m missing some key pieces, because if I show up in a necklace, boots, and belt, it will become a completely different kind of event. Thanks for helping me fill in the blanks with long skirt and plaid shirt. Now I just need to find a red cowboy hat!

  27. 27

LOVE LOVE LOVE your western skirt! so cute! and thanks for sharing that tid bit about wanting your hubby to like what he sees, there’s a war out there against marriages and for our husbands’ attention. the best defense is a good offense!! you go girl!
