Q & A – personal questions

time for another q & a post!  catch up on the last one about my home here.

what time do you wake and go to bed?

i try to wake up between 6 and 6:30 but i really don’t usually get out of bed until 6:30 or 7.  not too bad considering that i don’t usually go to bed until 11:30 or 12.  or 12:30…  i really want to be better about going to bed earlier, but i do the majority of my work late at night… its quiet, no one interrupts me (other than sean ;)

you mention church, but i would love to hear more about your faith.

my church and beliefs are a big part of my life, i just haven’t integrated it much into my blog, for reasons unknown to even me!  i am a christian and i attend grace church here in san luis obispo.  we’ve been at this church since we moved here 10 years ago – i’ve actually only gone regularly to 3 churches in my whole life!

so what do i believe?  lots of people say they are christians, but that means different things to different people.  i believe that God exists in the trinity: father, son, and holy spirit.  i believe that Christ is the son of God, he was born of a virgin birth, died as a sacrifice for our sins, triumphed over death when he rose from the grave, and will return again someday.  i believe we are all sinners and are born that way.   salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.  there is nothing we can do to earn our way into salvation.  i believe  our salvation is an undeserved gift.

how do you stay so thin?

(just thought i’d throw in the 9 month pregnant pic of myself for laughs!)

i may be thin, but definitely not in shape!  i attribute it to genetics and laziness ;)

i must say that we all have our things that we don’t like about our bodies, and i really am thankful for modest clothing that covers up the areas i wouldn’t want to show anyway.

what blogs do you follow?

i have a pretty long list here, but to be honest it hasn’t been updated in a few years.  i rarely find time to read blogs anymore, but when i do i hit these ones first:

how do you keep your tv covered up and not watch it that often?

(our tv is hidden behind that rustic wood panel)

over the years we have gone off and on with having cable.  but over the last maybe 4 years we’ve gone without almost completely.  we do have “dish” hooked up to the house because my parents have it in their loft, but we haven’t had a working tv for quite awhile to use it.  we just don’t watch tv as a family much.  actually, the kids only get to watch what they call “movies” (a couple episodes of cartoons) on saturday mornings.  generally we just find them a show on hulu and we’ll let them watch for a bit while we sleep in.  occasionally we’ll let the kids watch a show midweek, but they know not to expect it.  honestly, i don’t know how kids find time to watch tv.  i mean, if i only had toddlers, i could see it more, but when my kids are home they are either doing schoolwork or playing or creating something (usually a mess!).  family dinners are a priority for us, then after dinner its nearly bedtime.  when would we have time to watch tv?

all that said, i watch a ton of tv, all on my computer on hulu.  while i work late at night, i have shows running in the background.

can you share some bread recipes that your husband makes?

i’ll be doing a post on this soon!  sean and lily are still somewhat new to bread making so they are still finding their favorite recipes and tweaking them to perfection.

What are you doing with all of your kids crafts and drawings ? I can’t keep everything but I never find a good way to keep the ones that I want to keep (except to pile them!!!) Do you file them ? keep them in an album? give them to your extended family !  throw them away ? Any idea ?
oh the piles and piles of “art” we gather here!  whether its a school assignment, a sunday school craft, or a treasured piece of beautiful work, 2 of my 3 kids want to keep EVERYTHING!  i have a couple solutions.  1) i throw away the not-so-beautiful stuff when they’re not looking, after its been around for a few days to be appreciated.  2) we have a tension wire strung across our playroom/school room that we hang school related art work 3) i keep a box for each of the kids to store the really amazing stuff that i want to keep forever.  i hope that helps!
come back next week for more q&a’s about my blog!

  1. 1

Your answer regarding your faith and being a Christian was beautifully put.

  2. 2

I just signed up to follow your blog yesterday and was delighted to hear your testimony to God’s grace and goodness. I found you through my daughter who makes hooded bath towels for her babies and her friends babies. Looking forward to more good stuff.

Thanks for sharing Lindsey, lovely way to get to know bit more about the lady behind the beautiful blog and crafts etc. Great way to share about things that aren’t easy to put forward day-to-day when talking about making TV covers too, eg faith! Going to mull over your inspiration :)

And I picked up a great tip with the TV cover – love this idea because I also rarely watch TV. In fact I still have an old box someone passed onto us that’s sitting on the floor and never gets switched on lol, so haven’t even bothered to go flat screen yet! (But I also watch things on the computer as I work, mainly the news and food programmes!)

Aww I loved reading these things about you! Thanks for sharing! : )

I have been to Grace Church SLO and I would love to be able to attend there all the time but living in Grass Valley, it’s not possible very often. My grandson works for your husband and my grandaughter attends Cal Poly so I am down there once in a while. Love your blog.

    Love, love, love the Q&A.

  12. 12

Aw, it’s really fun getting to know you better! Love these posts!

  13. 13

I loved reading this! It’s awesome that you can get by on so little sleep. I go to bed at midnight almost every night, but I usually don’t get up until nearly 8. It’s hard to imagine getting up that early — probably since I don’t have kids yet. :)

  14. 14

I enjoy all of this so much!!

  15. 15

Loved your words of faith. :) One of the reasons I love the blog world. I’m from the Canadian Reformed Church, and sometimes we get stuck in our own little church world. It’s so lovely to “meet” so many other Christians, from other denominations. Lovely blog, lovely work. Thanks for sharing it!

I absolutely love how you summed up your faith. You have a beautiful testimony. :-)
