book shelf update

book shelves at the pleated poppy

inspiration seems to strike at the oddest time for me.  i was busy with another project, when my book shelves caught my eye.  i started looking at the colors on each shelf, then looked around the room.  then i was hit with an idea!  i love when that happens!

i’ve organized my bookshelves before be ROYGBIV order (rainbow order), but never included accessories in it.  i decided to try making each shelf focus on a different color, or group of colors.

the first shelf started with reds and oranges.  i added a couple accessories on each shelf that don’t match exactly, like the old print blocks on top of these books.

look closely at my collection of books in the following pictures – they totally make me laugh because of their randomness: greek philosophers, an organizing book, prayers for husbands, sewing books and a vintage dictionary.  love it ;)

it was fun shopping my house for colorful accessories

along with the green books, i added in the black and white on either end.  i love the look of the shelf packed with books, but didn’t have enough of just green.

this side of shelves is not quite as bold as the left, but still fun.

again, a funny mix of book titles

along with the blue books on this shelf, i mixed in silver accessories: a tackle box, and silver footed bowls and cups.

the bottom shelf is organized in its own way, not by color, but by history.  at our school, we study history in a 4-year cycle, so the books to the left are on the ancients, the middle ages, the renaissance, and early american history.

how often do you rearrange your shelves?  i probably do it a few times a year, whenever the inspiration strikes!

I love your bookshelf! I have always organised mine by subject matter though. When I read your post I was at once filled with horror and admiration! As far as books go, I get flustered when a book is put back on the shelf in the ‘wrong’ place – perhaps this has something to do with my husband being terribly unable to put things away and then needing to ask me where he misplaced something last because he can no longer find it lol! He does try bless him but I always console myself that it’s too late to change now. There are more important things in life lol ;)
I totally get the strange times at which inspiration strikes though. Totally happens to me the same way! I’ve been known to reorganise a whole room after exactly what you described! Even though my bookshelf is organised by subject matter I have lately become a bit uncomfortable with the cluttered look it’s accumulated. I’m still waiting for that eureka moment. I’ll fill you in when it happens ;)
Happy very belated birthday by the way, I somehow didn’t get round to saying it xx

What a great idea! My bookshelves need a makeover, so I might try this. :)

    Dear Lindsey,
I can tell from your bookshelves that you are a woman running hard after God. I love
the fact that I had read so many of your own titles. Have a great day and thanks for giving our days a little bit of beauty.

Love the bookshelves! And like Susan, I love the book titles & what they stand for even more! So I wondered if you could tell me if you would recommend 2 books that caught my eye-Simplicity Parenting & Let.It.Go- are they worth a read for a very busy mom of 3?

Really? Could that be any cuter? it’s adorable. Just adorable. Seriously loving the organization and color combos. Now, can you pop over here and work your magic in my house? : ) Looks great Lindsey!

I can honestly say I have never once arranged or rearranged my bookshelves, lol!! You inspire me. I wish I had a knack for decorating! I love what you did with those.

  10. 12

So pretty! I’ve always wanted to arrange our book shelves by color, but my husband insists they be arranged by author :)

I think that what you published made a lot of sense.

However, consider this, suppose you were tto write a killer
post title? I mean, I don’t wish to tell you how to run your blog, but what if
you added something that grabbed people’s attention?
I mean book shelf update — The Pleated Poppy is kinda vanilla.

You could look at Yahoo’s home page and note how
they write article headlines to get people interested. You might try adding
a video or a picture or two to grab readers interested about everything’ve got
to say. In my opinion, it could maake your blog a little biit more
