motherhood matters

with all we have to do as mothers, all the little mundane things (like dishes & laundry & school work) tend to build up and seem like they are really big things.  like they are the things that our lives are made up of.  but these things, these are just the distractions.  where our real focus needs to be is the why and the who.  why do we do all of these things, and who are we doing these things for?

we do all the little things for our little people because we love them.  period.  it is all because of our love.

it all comes down to one word: love.  we do all of these things for the people we love to show them our love.

having something bound to me to remind me of why i do what i do (the mundane and the big stuff) is so important.  somedays i get lost in the hubbub of going through the motions of all that needs to get done in a day, and having a glimmering jingling reminder hanging around my neck helps to keep me motivated to do what i do.  to be mama.  to love.

my friend lisa leonard creates these beautiful, meaningful necklaces that encourage my mommy heart.  is there a mama in your life that needs encouragement?  mother’s day is just around the corner and lisa has a huge selection of mother’s day gifts!

Thank you for this post. I needed this today!! I homeschool as well and adding that on top of our daily to do list can be over-whelming at times. My home and my ‘chores’ are often put on hold so I can take the time needed with my kids and I often get stressed over what I didn’t get done for the day but it is important to remember why and who we do it for. You are such a neat person. I have read your blog for years and I know this is a HAPPY place I can always come to. Blessing to you and your family!!

I am not a mom, yet, but I know my life would be empty without my mommy. I love her and hate her at times for she is almost always right. Today when I am sick, your lovely family photo reminded me of my parents and I miss being away from them even more, and how they would have taken care of me, out of sheer love and caring. Kudos to you, your children seem like wonderful kids, growing up to be a good human being. Your friends creation is very pretty, I often want to wear something on me that reminds me of my mom, but I can never find the right thing, you just gave me the solution. Thank you Lindsey for sharing this and thank you to your friend for making such beautiful things.

Thank you for this post. I just had my 3rd baby a couple months ago and it has been a struggle to get all of those “distractions” balanced with spending quality time with my children. But I know where I want my focus to be and I’m grateful for your motivating words. :)
