what i wore

wiww banner

ok friends, let’s have a little chat.  yep, you.  we need to talk.  don’t just scroll down to the bottom of this post and add your link, then be on your merry way.  read this please.

i started what i wore forever ago.  my reason for doing it was not to grow my blog.  it was not to create a link party.  i did it because i needed help.  i needed to value myself a little bit more, remember i was not only a mom, but a woman.  a woman who wanted to look pretty every once in awhile.  but i lacked motivation.  and that is why i started taking pictures of myself and posting them on my blog.  i posted everything i wore, even if it was pajamas, or sean’s sweatshirt. but it got better.  i started putting on clothes i felt better in because i knew i was going to post pictures of it, and it was starting to get a little embarrassing to share pics of my pi’s.

flash forward a few years later, and i am so thankful for what wiww is now!  i so enjoy the comments and emails i get from women from around the country, how they needed just a little bit of extra motivation to try new things, push themselves a little, and feel better about themselves!

so why the big talk?  because i think (on a very small note) this is turning into something else other than what i intended it to be.  for the most part, i’m fine with being flexible.   really, my only thought is that the posts that are linked up here are fashion centric.  it is so fun to check out other posts and get new ideas.  and yes, we all enjoy a little bit of extra traffic from this.  don’t lie ;)  but here’s where i’m getting sad: i’m getting several link-ups each week that are making me feel like i’m being taken advantage of.  please don’t link up your giveaways, unless you’re giving away something to do with fashion.  please only link up new posts, not the 5 posts that you also linked up last week and the week before.  that feels yucky to me.  the great thing about the link-up is that my readers get to be inspired each week by a new group of posts, and don’t have to weed through the ones they already saw last week.  and the week before.

so thats it!  please only link new, fashion-centric posts and i won’t have to waste my time deleting them this week.  i know this doesn’t apply to most of you, but i also wanted you to hear my heart in why i do what i do here with wiww.

and now on to what i wore!

what i wore at the pleated poppy

v-neck tee – forever 21 \\ scarf – volcom \\  jeans – old navy \\ boots – off broadway shoes \\ watch – world market

I love that outfit you pulled together from the inspiration picture! And your accessories are so pretty!

You’re necklaces this week really stood out for me… not sure why exactly… I must be in the market for something new and fun. Thanks for the outfit inspiration again!

And last but not least, thank you for hosting the link up. I hope people understand your plea and respect your wishes. my best , Tammy

Statement necklace with a camo tee? Perfect touch! Thanks for the inspiration and for hosting!

  6. 6

Thanks for hosting, Lindsey :) Love that you shared from the heart too!! You ROCK.

  7. 7

Hey girl! I’m glad you spoke up. It’s really frustrating when people take advantage of these linky parties. I absolutely love your outfits this week. You make casual look so good! And you are inspiring me to give Stitch Fix one more try. I love that gray top.

  8. 8

Thanks for hosting the linkup! The camo tee with the statement necklace is the perfect casual outfit!

  9. 9

I LOVE those biker boots! That look is spot on too! I love when that happens and all the pieces come together. It becomes a great go-to look too.

  10. 10

I agree….it feels weird to see people linking up so many of their posts and their giveaways.

Thank you for hosting this link-up. I think it’s fantastic!! I’ve met so many people through it, get so many great ideas, and receive tons of traffic every day.

    Thank you, thank you!!

  11. 11

Thank you so much for hosting the link up week after week. It is a fun way to look for inspiration. I’m glad you spoke your mind, and I will always keep these guidelines in check. Your hair in the last shot is my favorite! It looks pretty without being overdone. Thanks again!
    xo, Blaire

Love your honesty Lindsey. I hope things improve for your link up. I think you nailed Kendi’s look well. I love seeing how bloggers inspire each other and post about it. Rachel xo

  13. 13

Thank you for posting that. I only link up one fashion post a week, and it’s hard digging though and seeing 5 from someone or other random things. I’m truly so happy you do this link-up. For a newbie blogger like me, it’s a huge way I connect with others. Love your inspired look this week!

  14. 14

Thanks so much for making is great link up! You look great in all of your outfits and I admire the community you have created.

Thanks for hosting the link-up every week! This is a HUGE link-up, and unfortunately I’m sure there are a few people who take advantage. Thanks for keeping everyone in order =) I’m loving all your looks this week! I might have to go check out Target for that camo tee!

    You always look so cute!

Huh. Is that what that was? I always wondered why there were so many links by the time I woke up to join in. I know you’re a West Coast gal but I also know you postdate to publish pretty early in the morning. I had thought it’s because the majority of your readers live in other time zones and that’s cool and all, but I do feel a bit disheartened and overwhelmed when I wake up on Wednesdays (5:30am – that’s pretty early, right?) and see over a hundred links already. This actually discourages me from visiting any links at all, and that’s sad since linkups are supposed to be all about community and being introduced to new blogs and new people.

I’m not gonna lie – I did initially participate for more exposure to my humble little blog, but I stayed because I admire your casual, California aesthetic and your accessible style. WIWW was just icing on the cake. Here’s hoping people hear and honor your request and your linkup can go back to fulfilling the spirit with which it was once created for.

I agree with Tammy up there ^^^. Your necklaces really stand out with your outfits this week. And thanks for the words on why you started the link up and what kinds of turns it has taken that you didn’t want/ expect. Along with many others, I sincerely appreciate you hosting week after week!

I agree- your necklaces do stand out this week! And I so love your new booties.

  21. 21

Once again, I think I would wear just about everything that you wore this week! That blue-ish/gray stitch fix top is my favorite!

  22. 22

I appreciate your honesty Lindsey! It is a bit disheartening to see people take it so seriously to link up for their own personal reasons. On another note I LOVE your Kendi inspired outfit! Her blog is such an inspiration to me and is the reason I decided to begin my own!

    Happy Wednesday!!

  23. 23

I can see where these parties get out of hand. You are not the first to have to write something like this.

I always noticed some people would post a few times and I wondered if I was missing out and didn’t really understand the concept.

Good on ya for keeping it real.

  24. 24

I am brand new to blogging and just figuring out how link ups work. I’m sorry to hear that people abuse them! Thanks for sharing. I finally figured out how to add your button to my web page, so that’s a small victory!
Love all your outfits this week. You look gorgeous in everything. And don’t even get me started about your hair – how does it look so good every single day :) Have a great week!

  25. 25

Love the camo outfit. Really cute! On another note, great post – hope WIW continues to grow and go in the direction you hoped. :-)

  26. 26

Sorry to hear that people are abusing your fabulous link up! I always get good traffic and find new bloggers to follow and enjoy.

I love your blog and your honesty. Keep it up!

  27. 27

I really enjoyed your discussion at the top. I have been on the fence about hosting a link-up. On the one hand, I think it would be a good way for me to foster a community and challenge me to expand my blog with better materials/ outfits, etc. Still, on the other hand, I can’t figure out how to keep things with that communal feel. I was thinking maybe by doing it once a month? I will definitely be thinking about your comments. :) xx

  28. 28

I’ve not been linking up the past few weeks because I’ve been struggling for time and I always like to comment on a lot of the link ups that I join. It’s not been possible lately so I’ve not been joining any in a while.

I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been having people abusing the link ups, it must be frustrating to have to go through and delete some! I think some people really do just link up and run. To be honest I think I get more traffic through commenting on the links, rather than adding my own!

    Have a lovely day,
    Corinne x

Love all your easy styles this week! Super cute! I keep seeing that Target camo t…I have to go get one of those!! Have a great week!

  30. 30

I love the camo and the bling!

    Also, good for you!

  31. 31

love the fancy necklace with the camo shirt! brilliant! :)

  32. 32

I love how you showed that you were inspired by Kendi!

    lynn ann says:

You are my absolute favorite wiw! I’ve checked out others but find myself ALWAYS coming back to your site:) So, how you were inspired by kendi, is exactly how I found myself inspired by your fashion idea’s. You are practical, yet your styles always inspire for so many occasions, especially your casual chic side. My favorite thing about your wiw is you are always intermingling your pieces to create various looks and most of these items are not purchased at designer stores/Price’s. Thank you for helping me get inspired xx

  34. 34

Lindsey, thanks for that little pep talk. Over the last few months, I’ve stopped looking through the linkys because so many linked to random things that were not WIWW. Hopefully people will listen because I really do get inspired by others!

  35. 35

I thought you were going to say that you were not going to do WIWW anymore… phew! But, I am super glad you said something about the links. I have noticed that there were a lot that were spam, just trying to get traffic. And, that is totally taking advantage of you. Loving the darker colors on you, that first outfit is awesome. Rock on!

  36. 36

Wow that’s a lot of links to go through and monitor/delete each week! I’ve had a quick look through but wanted to leave a comment to say thanks for hosting before I go back and seek out a few fellow pregnant bloggers for a bit of inspiration for my last 9 weeks!

  37. 37

Your are looking fab…. The hostess with the mostess for sure… Thanks so much for sharing your talent!! :)

Your second outfit is my favorite. I love everything about it! Thanks for sharing. Maybe one of these days I’ll snap a selfie and add it to the links :)

  39. 39

I love your 4th outfit. I love it want to have one for me. Thanks for sharing.

  40. 40

Love them all. thank you so much for sharing.

The article has been instead grabbing and intriguing enough to receive all
probable nuances to recall. I do enjoy reading the content and the writing manner of the author, etc..
