fall fashion inspiration

This shop is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group®, InStyle, Vogue and Elle, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #inspirefallfashion  http://my-disclosur.es/OBsstV

after a long hard day, sometimes i just need to hide in my room with a couple magazines and sneak bites of a yummy blondie (or 2!).  and this time it was relatively guilt free, minus the calories and avoiding the kids, because i got a $5 target gift card for buying these 2 magazines together at target!  (can be done with instyle, vogue and elle through september 13th)

while fashion magazine styles and trends can often be too high fashion for me to try to copy, i’ll take bits and pieces and make them work for me.  i like to re-imagine the pieces in my closet and give them new life with a style twist inspired by the fashion greats.  i used InStyle magazine for all of these inspired styles:

i’m a huge fan of american classics.  jeans and a white tee are just about my uniform.  but fall is coming and so my style tends to reflect the change in seasons.  i saw an inspiration picture of a puffy vest/gingham shirt combo and knew i could easily pull it off without feeling like i was trying too hard.

my vest is a bigger pop of color than the inspiration pic, but it gives the same vibe.  pairing the top with ankle boots and boyfriend jeans adds to the tallish feel.  for winter i would add a chunky cream sweater under the vest and maybe throw on a floppy beanie.

blow the myth of no white after labor day out of the water!  i love all white!  i think a simple way to make it work for fall is to simply add layers.

i started with a simple eyelet white dress, topped it with a white oxford shirt, and layered on a cream cardigan.  the white tennies keep it casual.  once it gets cooler i would add cognac boots with lacey boot socks, and maybe a chunky belt.

i got these quilted slip-ons recently and have been looking for a chance to play around with styling them.  the majority of the outfit is boyish – the chambray shirt, boxy sweater and the shoes, but the floral skirt (actually a dress) and the soft fabric add the perfect touch of girly.

how about you?  do you really need an excuse to head to target? ;) $5 is awfully enticing!  here’s my advice:  grab your 2 magazines, then use your gift card at the in-store starbucks and take an extra 30 minutes to yourself pouring over your magazines!

I love getting fashion ideas from magazines, but you are absolutely right. They are way out of my price range. lol! So I often try to use what I already have if I can, or go thrifting!

Ugh. My clothing budget is approximately $0 right now (two babies, maternity leave, and a temporarily unemployed husband will do that to you). That will change eventually, but in the mean time you are killing me! You look so cute!! I am mentally putting gingham, brown/tan booties, and quilted sneaks on the want list.
